'Double Bubble' Technique for Successful Reattachment of Total Descemet Membrane Detachment after Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty.

BACKGROUND: A double anterior chamber may be observed after deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty (DALK) and the management may be difficult especially in cases with a total descemet membrane detachment (DMD). Case Observations: We describe a novel "reverse double bubble" surgical technique for safe and effective reattachment of total DMD following DALK. Total DMD with air bubble in the interface was noted on the first postoperative day following DALK for healed keratitis. Intracameral air was injected via a 30-gauge needle inserted through a partial thickness MVR entry made at the posterior lim

Scleral Buckling and Corneal Topography in a Rare Case of Keratoconus with Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment in an Indian Patient.

BACKGROUND: Management of Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment (RRD) in keratoconus could be challenging in various aspects. Visualisation of fundus due to altered reflex along with axial myopia could pose difficulty while performing pars plana vitrectomy. Our patient underwent Scleral Buckling with good anatomical results. We came across an isolated case of Keratoconus with Retinal detachment without any pre existing comorbidities unlike earlier reports where patients with history of atopic dermatitis had Keratoconus associated with RRD. The main purpose was to know the outcome of scleral buckli

Alveolar soft part sarcoma of the orbit, a case report of a rare tumor.

BACKGROUND: Alveolar Soft Part Sarcoma is a rare malignant tumor of uncertain histogenesis, representing 0.5-1% of all soft tissue tumors. It occurs predominantly in head and neck regions, especially the orbit and the tongue, in infants, causing no specific symptoms for an extended period of time. CASE: A four year old girl was brought to consultation because of persistent swelling of her left upper and lower eyelid for the past six months. A 4 mm proptosis was noted on her left eye with significant upwards displacement of the globe. A firm, not pulsating and non tender mass was palpated, and

Incidence of primary peripheral posterior capsular opacification after cataract surgery and posterior capsular opacification in the patients implanted with foldable intraocular lenses.

INTRODUCTION: Preexisting posterior capsular opacification is commonly seen in the developing world due to late presentation of patients for cataract surgery. Patients are implanted with either hydrophilic or hydrophobic IOL. Effect of these IOLs on pre-existing posterior capsular opacification has not yet been reported. AIM: To determine the incidence of peripheral preexisting posterior capsular opacity (PPPCO) in patients undergoing cataract surgery and the rate of posterior capsular opacification (PCO) following implantation of hydrophilic and hydrophobic intraocular lens (IOLs). Pursuit Of An Ideal Model For Community Eye Health - Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Visual impairment is a crippling condition affecting quality of life and depriving patients of many opportunities. It is associated with increased mortality rates directly through occurrence of adverse events such as falls and impaired emotional well-being, and indirectly through visual impairment brought upon by systemic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension (Foong et al. 2008, Fong et al. 2014, Khanna et al. 2013, Song et al.2014, Wang et al. 1999). The number of patients suffering from reversible causes of blindness is substantial. In 2010, World Health Organisation estimates that 28

Corneal cross-linking in a 10-year-old child with stage III keratoconus.

BACKGROUND: Keratoconus is a corneal dystrophy characterized by progressive thinning, conical shape of the cornea and irregular astigmatism. It is particularly insidious when it occurs in very young patients. CASE: We report the case of a 10-year-old child with an aggressive stage III keratoconus, who was suggested to undergo a Penetrating Keratoplasty. We performed Corneal Collagen Cross-linking with epithelium removal instead, which was successful in arresting the rapid progression of keratoconus. OBSERVATIONS: Eighteen months later, Kmax had decreased by 1.3 D, astigmatism by 0.8 D, thinn

Posterior capsular calcification without opacification of intraocular lens.

BACKGROUND: Posterior capsular clarity is important for long-term visual gain. Postoperative visual acuity could be reduced due to posterior capsular or intraocular lens opacification, which occur months or years after cataract surgery. We report early occurrence of posterior capsular calcification without opacification of intraocular lens. CASE: We report the case of a 78-year-old male who had undergone phacoemulsification with implantation of hydrophilic intraocular lens (IOL) in the left eye for cataract. The patient was non-diabetic, and the surgical procedure was uneventful. On the third

Comparative analysis of macular and peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in normal, glaucoma suspect and glaucomatous eyes by optical coherence tomography.

INTRODUCTION: Peripapillary retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness analysis is a subjective method of analysis of glaucomatous damage. As almost 50% of retinal ganglion cells are located in the macula, assessment of macular thickness can be an alternative method for diagnosis of glaucoma. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the changes in macular and retinal nerve fiber layer thickness in controls, glaucoma suspects and glaucoma patients using time domain optical coherence tomography (TD-OCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Macular and peripapillary RNFL scans were performed in one eye of 70 controls, 35 gl
