[Personalized lower-limb gait assessment method based on musculoskeletal modeling and machine learning].

To address the issues of insufficient objectivity and difficulty in locating muscle dysfunction in current lower-limb gait assessment methods, this paper proposes a personalized lower-limb gait assessment method that integrates a musculoskeletal model with machine learning. First, a personalized musculoskeletal model is constructed using human biomechanical simulation software through model scaling and optimized calibration of key muscle parameters, and the validity of the proposed model is verified by comparing simulation results with experimental data. Second, the peak coefficient of variati

The Influence of Personality Traits on Driving Behaviors in Preclinical Alzheimer Disease.

INTRODUCTION: Alzheimer disease (AD) has a long preclinical phase in which AD pathology is accumulating without detectable clinical symptoms. It is critical to identify participants in this preclinical phase as early as possible since treatment plans may be more effective in this stage. Monitoring for changes in driving behavior, as measured with GPS sensors, has been explored as a low-burden, easy-to-administer method for detecting AD risk. However, driving is a complex, multifaceted process that is likely influenced by other factors, including personality traits, that may change in preclinic

Reusable and self-sterilization mask for real-time personal protection based on sunlight-driven photocatalytic reaction.

Personal protective masks play critical role in preventing the disease epidemic and resisting pathogenic bacterial infestation. However, large quantities of masks were disposed during COVID-19 epidemic, which caused environmental problem and huge economic burden. Herein, we developed reusable masks with inherent antimicrobial and self-cleaning features under solar irradiation. With spun-bonded nonwoven fabrics (SNF) layer as substrate, copper sulfide@polydopamine nanoparticles are deposited on SNF layer (CuS@PDANPs-SNF), which presents excellent photocatalytic activity. Under solar irradiation

Prevalence of transthyretin-related amyloidosis in Tuscany: Data from the regional population-based registry.

The limited available data regarding the prevalence of transthyretin amyloidosis, both for wild-type (ATTRwt) and hereditary form (ATTRv), is inferred from highly selected patients and subsequent extrapolations that limit the comprehension of the clinical disease impact. The Tuscan healthcare system in 2006 developed a web-based rare disease registry, to monitor and profile patients affected by rare diseases. Clinicians belonging to regional validated healthcare data centres can register patients at the diagnosis, with a rigorous approach and distinguishing the types of amyloidosis, i.e., ATTR

[Prognostic factors for cardio-pulmonary syndrome and death by hantavirus Andes Sur: cohort study in San Carlos de Bariloche and health influence area].

Hantavirus infections occur through the inhalation of aerosols from the excreta of infected rodents. These viruses cause a cardiopulmonary syndrome in the case of the Andes Sur variant, with a mortality that can reach 50%. It occurs in sporadic cases or in small clusters, in which interhuman contagion predominates. In this historical cohort-type observational study, in people infected with Andes Sur hantavirus during the years 2009 to 2019 who was assisted in the public health subsector of San Carlos de Bariloche (Argentina), it was sought to identify factors that could predict poor evolution

Autobiographical Memory Fluency Reductions in Cognitively Unimpaired Middle-Aged and Older Adults at Increased Risk for Alzheimer's Disease Dementia.

OBJECTIVE: Recent research has revealed that cognitively unimpaired older adults who are at higher risk for developing Alzheimer's disease (AD) dementia often exhibit subtle cognitive alterations in their neuropsychological profiles. Emerging evidence suggests that autobiographical memory, which is memory for personal events and knowledge, may be sensitive to early AD-related cognitive alterations. In the present study, we investigated whether the rapid generation of autobiographical memory category exemplars, a retrieval process that taxes the neural network that is vulnerable to early AD, is

Prevalence and Predictors of Burnout in Midwives: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

The prevalence of burnout in midwives has been briefly studied. Given the negative effects of burnout syndrome in the physical and mental health, and also related to the quality of care provided, rates of absenteeism and sick leave; identifying related factors for the syndrome are needed. The aim was to determine the prevalence, levels, and factors related to the burnout syndrome, measured with the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory in midwives. A systematic review and meta-analysis were selected from CINAHL, LILACS, ProQuest, PsycINFO, PubMed, SciELO, and Scopus databases, with the search equation

A new toolbox to compare target localizations for non-invasive brain stimulation: An application of rTMS treatment for auditory hallucinations in schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Most repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) studies aiming to reduce auditory verbal hallucinations (AVH) in schizophrenia target the left temporo-parietal junction (TPJ), but the efficacy of this approach remains controversial. The observed differences in efficacy could be attributed to inaccurate target localization. Here, to precisely quantify anatomical bias induced by localization method, we developed a free open-source software (GeodesicSlicer) that computes shortest curved path (i.e. geodesic) between rTMS targets. Here we compare a personalized target with accu

Minimal role of comorbid personality disorder on the quality of life in patients with anxiety spectrum disorders.

OBJECTIVES: There is no consensus on the definition of Quality of life (QoL). It is considered to be comprised of both psychological and somatical well-being. A variety of tools has been developed to measure subjective and objective (QoL). A number of factors, including demographical and medical may have an impact on QoL. The aim of our study was to compare the QoL in selected anxiety disorders and evaluate the influence of comorbid personality disorder. METHOD: We evaluated data from 278 patients suffering from social phobia, panic disorder and/or agoraphobia, adjustment disorder, generalize

Effect of HIV on the Frequency and Number of Mycobacterium tuberculosis-Specific CD4+ T Cells in Blood and Airways During Latent M. tuberculosis Infection.

Human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV) infection substantially increases the risk of developing tuberculosis. There is extensive depletion of Mycobacterium tuberculosis-specific CD4+ T cells in blood during early HIV infection, but little is known about responses in the lungs at this stage. Given that mucosal organs are a principal target for HIV-mediated CD4+ T-cell destruction, we investigated M. tuberculosis-specific responses in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) from persons with latent M. tuberculosis infection and untreated HIV coinfection with preserved CD4+ T-cell counts. M. tuberculosis

Selenium levels in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis and controls in lower Austria.

Autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT) is one of the most common autoimmune diseases; genetic as well as environmental factors contribute to its pathogenesis. The thyroid is the organ with the highest selenium content per unit weight. Selenium status appears to have an impact on the development of thyroid pathologies. We investigated a possible difference of selenium serum levels as a marker of nutritional selenium supply between patients with AIT in central Lower Austria and a matched group of healthy persons living in the same region. Selenium serum levels in the patients with AIT were 98.0 ± 15.6 μg/

Potential for large outbreaks of Ebola virus disease.

Outbreaks of Ebola virus can cause substantial morbidity and mortality in affected regions. The largest outbreak of Ebola to date is currently underway in West Africa, with 3944 cases reported as of 5th September 2014. To develop a better understanding of Ebola transmission dynamics, we revisited data from the first known Ebola outbreak, which occurred in 1976 in Zaire (now Democratic Republic of Congo). By fitting a mathematical model to time series stratified by disease onset, outcome and source of infection, we were able to estimate several epidemiological quantities that have previously pr

Behind the cycle of violence, beyond abuse history: a brief report on the association of parental attachment to physical child abuse potential.

Although the concept of a cycle of violence presumes that the transmission of violence is expressed directly across generations, the role of the overall quality of the parent-child relationship may ultimately be more influential in later parenting behavior. This study investigated whether mothers' poorer attachment to their parents was associated with their current increased child abuse potential and dysfunctional disciplinary style independent of a personal history of child abuse. A sample of 73 at-risk mothers raising children with behavior problems reported on their parental attachment, abu

Asymptomatic sexually transmitted diseases: the case for screening.

BACKGROUND: The United States has the highest prevalence of sexually transmitted diseases in the developed world. Control strategies should address the most frequent reasons why curable sexually transmitted diseases are not treated. METHODS: We approached 1,631 persons ages 18-29 in various sites and offered them screening for gonorrhea and chlamydial infection and surveys regarding past genitourinary symptoms. For those with past symptoms we abstracted medical records or conducted additional interviews. From these data we estimated the total number of persons who had gonorrhea or chlamydial

[Decisions of the National Insurance Court related to personality disorders 1986-2001].

BACKGROUND: During the past decades, much clinical research in psychiatry has been devoted to personality disorders. The aim of the present study was to examine whether recent experience in this area has influenced the decisions in cases appealed to the National Insurance Court. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study includes cases recorded in the court database over the period 1986-2001. This database contains information on decisions with diagnoses classified according to ICD-9 and ICD-10. RESULTS: The court issued 159 decisions in cases with personality disorder as the main diagnosis, some assoc

Epidemiology and impact on quality of life of postherpetic neuralgia and painful diabetic neuropathy.

OBJECTIVE: This article reviews the prevalence, risk factors, natural history, and impact on quality of life of painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) and postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). DISCUSSION: Diabetes mellitus afflicts more than 14 million persons in the U.S. An estimated 20% to 24% of these persons experience PDN. Data on risk factors for PDN are limited, but duration of diabetes mellitus and poor glycemic control are probably important factors. Painful diabetic neuropathy may interfere with general activity, mood, mobility, work, social relations, sleep, leisure activities, and enjoyment of

Time to generalized anxiety disorder onset after substance use disorder: a survival analysis from a national sample.

Substance use disorders (SUD) frequently co-occur with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), yet the timing and likelihood of GAD emergence following SUD onset remain poorly characterized. This study estimated substance-specific cumulative incidence and hazard of incident GAD after alcohol use disorder (AUD; n = 6685), cannabis use disorder (CUD; n = 1500), and nicotine use disorder (NUD; n = 5673), benchmarked against adults with no lifetime SUD (n = 16,117).
