Certain morphologic aspects of atrioventricular septal defects ("endocardial cushion defects," "atrioventricular canal malformations") remain controversial. Visual thresholds, fluorescein angiography, color fundus photography and tests of motor function were used to examine the effects of carbon disulfide (CS2) on macaque monkeys. Lymphadenopathy in patients with celiac disease is generally viewed with alarm due to the association between celiac disease and intestinal lymphoma. Local heat treatment was tested and found effective in three patients with diffuse cutaneous leishmaniasis (DCL), a form of disease poorly responsive to the usual chemotherapy. A water bath that circulated water through a pad wrapped around the lesion provided a temperature of 39 degrees C to 41 degrees C for a cumulative time of at least 20 hours, over a period of several days. Adult Onchocerca volvulus were enzymatically isolated with collagenase from excised nodules and kept in TC medium 199 with Hank's salts supplemented with various sera. Male and female worms survived in the culture medium and 10% human serum on average for about 11 days (maximum 28 days) and 14.5 days (maximum 42 days). Up to 4,000 microfilariae were expelled by each female per day, but the production of new oocytes or development of embryos could not be observed in vitro.

Our studies of 107 patients with 133 lipomata showed that the male to female ratio for single lipoma was 1.2:1, and for multiple lipoma it was 3.5:1. In an attempt to improve the accuracy of diagnosis, 16 patients suffering from Morton's metatarsalgia were investigated clinically and electrophysiologically. The histological findings were related to these observations. The precise aetiology of Morton's metatarsalgia remains obscure, but the findings are compatible with an entrapment syndrome. Nerve conduction studies have a place in the investigation of patients with atypical presentation of pain in the foot. Further refinement of the electrophysiological technique should be possible.

25 OH D3 plasma levels were measured in thyrotoxic patients and in euthyroid subjects before and after the intravenous injection of vitamin D3. In thyrotoxic subjects the transformation of injected vitamin D3 into 25 OH D3 had already begun six hours after the injection, reached a maximum between the twelfth and thirty-sixth hour and decreased thereafter.
