Femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy was used to study singlet diphenylcarbene generated by photodissociation of diphenyldiazomethane with a UV pulse at 266 nm. Absorption by singlet diphenylcarbene was detected and characterized for the first time. Similar band shapes were observed in acetonitrile and in cyclohexane with lambda(max) approximately 370 nm. CCl4 given to Chinchilla rabbits aged 1 month caused impaired pharmacokinetics of cardiogrin, indicating suppression of absorptive and excretory functions of the liver in prepuberty. Silibor was found to produce no substantial restorative effects on hepatic absorptive and excretory functions in acute toxic hepatitis in the growing body. The anthelminthic agents chloxylum and prasiquantel were examined for their effects in patients with an above 5-year history of Opisthorchis invasion. The van de Kamer procedure revealed that chloxylum produced an inhibitory effect on absorption of d-xylose and fat. Prasiquantel failed to impair the absorptive function of the small intestine. Helminthological curing in patients with chronic opisthorchiasis was not shown to normalize dysfunction of the small intestine.
