Automated MRI Series Classification Across Heterogeneous Datasets Using Limited Manual Annotation.

The purpose of this study is to determine the smallest tested fraction of manually labeled training data required for a multimodal artificial intelligence (AI) classifier to achieve satisfactory MRI series classification performance (macro-F1 ≥ 0.80) across five heterogeneous public MRI datasets using digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) metadata, image data, or both. This retrospective study included 3804 examinations and 14,054 MRI series from five public DICOM datasets spanning brain, knee, lumbar spine, liver, and breast MRI, accessed February-April 2026. AI classificatio…

[Classification and Ilizarov reconstruction strategies for post-infectious calcaneal bone defects].

OBJECTIVE: To retrospectively analyze the clinical data of patients with post-infectious calcaneal bone defects from multiple centers and to propose a clinical classification system and corresponding reconstruction strategies for calcaneal bone defects following infection. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was performed on 94 patients with post-infectious calcaneal bone defects treated at five hospitals between January 2017 and June 2025. The study population consisted of 61 males and 33 females, with a mean age of 36.5 years (range, 15-65 years). There were 67 cases of open calcaneal fractur…

CMGL: Confidence-guided Multi-omics Graph Learning for Cancer Subtype Classification.

Multi-omics integration can improve cancer subtyping, but modality informativeness and noise vary across cancer types and patients. Most graph methods for multi-omics data learn modality contributions within the downstream classification objective, leaving predictive reliability for each patient implicit. As a result, uninformative modalities can weaken the fused representation, while unreliable omics can introduce noisy patient relationships into graph propagation. To address these two problems, we propose CMGL, which produces a separate reliability estimate before fusion and uses consensus p…

Precision Management of Tumor-Associated Fever: From Classification to Targeted Intervention.

Tumor-associated fever (TAF) is a common clinical complication in patients with malignant tumors, encompassing neoplastic fever directly attributable to the malignancy itself and secondary fever induced by anticancer treatments. Its pathogenesis is complex, clinical differentiation remains challenging, and it exerts a dual impact on tumor progression and therapeutic response. In the context of advancing precision medicine, a conceptual framework integrating "differential classification-mechanism orientation-targeted intervention" has been proposed to guide the future management of TAF, shiftin…

Explainable deep learning-based classification of Wolff-Parkinson-White electrocardiographic signals.

INTRODUCTION: Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome is a cardiac electrophysiology (EP) disorder caused by the presence of an accessory pathway (AP) that bypasses the atrioventricular node, faster ventricular activation rate, and provides a substrate for atrio-ventricular reentrant tachycardia (AVRT). Accurate localization of the AP is critical for planning and guiding catheter ablation procedures. While traditional diagnostic tree (DT) methods and more recent machine learning (ML) approaches have been proposed to predict AP location from surface electrocardiogram (ECG), they are often constrai

Rethinking mucinous colorectal adenocarcinoma classification: evidence from histopathology and RAS mutations.

PURPOSE: Mucinous adenocarcinoma (MAC) is a distinct and aggressive subtype of colorectal cancer (CRC), traditionally defined by > 50% mucinous component. However, evidence suggests tumors with lower mucin content may behave similarly. This study investigated clinicopathological and molecular differences between mucinous and non-mucinous CRC, and evaluated the prognostic relevance of the current mucin threshold. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 1716 CRC cases (2017-2021) from the Institut Pasteur de Tunis. Tumors were classified as NMAC (0-5% mucin), ACMC1 (5-50%), or MAC (> 50%). .RAS mu

A foundation-model approach to pediatric headache classification from rs-fMRI.

Headache is the most common neurological disorder in children and substantially affects quality of life. We investigated whether resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) can support pediatric headache classification using machine learning. We encoded rs-fMRI data using NeuroSTORM, a recent foundation model, and fine-tuned it to distinguish healthy controls from children with headache and subsequently classify headache subtypes. We compared NeuroSTORM with a standard neuroscience approach using functional-connectivity (FC) matrices derived from brain activity as predictors. Using 189 rs-fMRI scan…

Body position classification using wearable sensors in infants with cerebral palsy.

Infants learn through everyday interactions with the physical and social environment. For infants with cerebral palsy (CP), motor impairments may disrupt everyday learning opportunities. How can we measure real-world motor behavior and learning opportunities in infants with CP? Machine learning models have been developed to quantify body position throughout a day in infants with typical development (TD) using wearable sensor data. However, these models have not been validated in infants with motor impairments. This study assessed the validity of body position classification using machine learn…

Clinical priors-inspired privileged knowledge distillation for reliable pancreatic lesion classification.

Accurate classification of pancreatic lesions is critical for guiding treatment decisions, with computed tomography (CT) being the primary modality owing to its high spatial resolution. Although deep learning has advanced CT-based pancreatic lesion classification, its inherently low soft-tissue contrast complicates the diagnosis of challenging samples, such as small or isoattenuating lesions. Multi-modal learning is a promising alternative but is often clinically impractical, as it requires all modalities during inference and fails to fully leverage the clinically relevant complementary inform…

sEMG gait phase classification based on CNN-transformer and transfer learning.

Accurate motion intention recognition is essential for active control of lower-limb rehabilitation exoskeletons. To address inter-subject variability in sEMG signals and real-time requirements, a lightweight CNN-Transformer hybrid with two-stage transfer learning is proposed. Inverted residual CNNs extract multi-dimensional local features while Transformer modules capture long-range dependencies, achieving merely 0.35M parameters. Personalized adaptation is realized via source-domain pre-training and target-domain fine-tuning. The model achieves 5.6 ms inference latency, with single-subject an

An open-set learning framework for EEG-based sleep stage classification.

Objective.Existing sleep stage classification methods generally rely on a closed set assumption. They assume all sleep categories are predefined, which overlooks unknown sleep patterns encountered in real world electroencephalogram (EEG) analysis. This study overcomes this constraint by identifying both known and unknown sleep stages.Approach.We developed a two stage open set learning framework for EEG sleep staging. First, an adaptive Gaussian method models each known category to compute Gaussian scores, utilizing class specific quantile adaptive thresholds to separate known from unknown samp…

Subject fingerprinting and task classification rely on distinct functional connectivity features.

Functional connectivity (FC) measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been shown to be a marker of individual brain characteristics, and also to reflect cognitive tasks. However, it remains unclear how the choice of FC measures affects the encoding of both subject and task properties. We address this question using a high-quality deep-phenotyping dataset consisting of multiple naturalistic tasks (listening to a story, watching three different movies and playing a video game) and resting-state, while working on two classification problems: subject fingerprinting and task cla…

Classification and Anti-Streptococcus mutans Mechanism Summary of Chinese Botanical Products.

Dental caries, one of the most prevalent diseases worldwide, poses a significant threat to oral health. Streptococcus mutans is one of the key pathogenic bacteria associated with dental caries. Numerous Chinese botanical products (CBPs) have been shown to possess antibacterial effects against S. mutans. However, given the wide variety of CBPs that have been investigated, a systematic summary of their effects is needed. To address this need, in the present review, CBPs are categorized into five groups based on their major bioactive components: organic acid-based CBPs, alkaloid-based CBPs, pheno
