Multimodal Brain Tumor Classification Using Convolutional Tumnet Architecture.

The most common and aggressive tumor is brain malignancy, which has a short life span in the fourth grade of the disease. As a result, the medical plan may be a crucial step toward improving the well-being of a patient. Both diagnosis and therapy are part of the medical plan. Brain tumors are commonly imaged with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET), and computed tomography (CT). In this paper, multimodal fused imaging with classification and segmentation for brain tumors was proposed using the deep learning method. The MRI and CT brain tumor images of the same

An automatic method for lung segmentation and reconstruction in chest X-ray using deep neural networks.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Chest X-ray (CXR) is one of the most used imaging techniques for detection and diagnosis of pulmonary diseases. A critical component in any computer-aided system, for either detection or diagnosis in digital CXR, is the automatic segmentation of the lung field. One of the main challenges inherent to this task is to include in the segmentation the lung regions overlapped by dense abnormalities, also known as opacities, which can be caused by diseases such as tuberculosis and pneumonia. This specific task is difficult because opacities frequently reach high intensity va

Computer-aided diagnosis of glaucoma using fundus images: A review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Glaucoma is an eye condition which leads to permanent blindness when the disease progresses to an advanced stage. It occurs due to inappropriate intraocular pressure within the eye, resulting in damage to the optic nerve. Glaucoma does not exhibit any symptoms in its nascent stage and thus, it is important to diagnose early to prevent blindness. Fundus photography is widely used by ophthalmologists to assist in diagnosis of glaucoma and is cost-effective. METHODS: The morphological features of the disc that is characteristic of glaucoma are clearly seen in the fundu

The region of interest localization for glaucoma analysis from retinal fundus image using deep learning.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Retinal fundus image analysis without manual intervention has been rising as an imperative analytical approach for early detection of eye-related diseases such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy. For analysis and detection of Glaucoma and some other disease from retinal image, there is a significant role of predicting the bounding box coordinates of Optic Disc (OD) that acts as a Region of Interest (ROI). METHODS: We reframe ROI detection as a solitary regression predicament, from image pixel values to ROI coordinates including class probabilities. A Convolution N

Long short-term memory for apnea detection based on Heart Rate Variability.

The main drive force in apnea current diagnostic is to reduce overwhelming number of sleep disorders candidates by means of very simple-to-use, comfortable and cheap methodology. The proposed framework is based only on automatic analysis of electrocardiogram signal. The feature extraction stage was performed using methods of Heart Rate Variability and Detrended Fluctuation analysis. Feature-spaces formed using these two methods were used as input to a Long Short-Term Memory Artificial Neural Network chosen for its capability to find temporally dependencies in the data. The framework was evalua

Neuro-fuzzy systems for computer-aided myocardial viability assessment.

This paper describes a multimodality framework for computer-aided myocardial viability assessment based on neuro-fuzzy techniques. The proposed approach distinguishes two main levels: the modality-independent inference level and the modality-dependent application level. This two-level distinction releases the hard constraint of multimodality image registration. An abstract description template is used to describe the different myocardial functions (contractile function, perfusion, metabolism). Parameters extracted from different image modalities are combined to derive a diagnostic image. The n

An Experimental Performance Assessment of Temporal Convolutional Networks for Microphone Virtualization in a Car Cabin.

In this paper, the experimental results on microphone virtualization in realistic automotive scenarios are presented. A Temporal Convolutional Network (TCN) was designed in order to estimate the acoustic signal at the driver's ear positions based on the knowledge of monitoring microphone signals at different positions-a technique known as virtual microphone. An experimental setup was implemented on a popular B-segment car to acquire the acoustic field within the cabin while running on smooth asphalt at variable speeds. In order to test the potentiality of the TCN, microphone signals were recor

Enhanced Pelvic CT Segmentation via Deep Learning: A Study on Loss Function Effects.

Effective radiotherapy planning requires precise delineation of organs at risk (OARs), but the traditional manual method is laborious and subject to variability. This study explores using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for automating OAR segmentation in pelvic CT images, focusing on the bladder, prostate, rectum, and femoral heads (FHs) as an efficient alternative to manual segmentation. Utilizing the Medical Open Network for AI (MONAI) framework, we implemented and compared U-Net, ResU-Net, SegResNet, and Attention U-Net models and explored different loss functions to enhance segmentati

Machine learning-based extraction of microstructural parameters from diffusion-weighted imaging starting from realistic in silico cellular substrates: Application in breast and prostate cancer.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Diffusion-Weighted Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DW-MRI) is a key tool for probing tissue microstructure by measuring water motion. Given the invasiveness and limited sampling of biopsies, Apparent Diffusion Coefficient (ADC), derived from DW-MRI acquisitions, is clinically used as a non-invasive biomarker for tumor heterogeneity, although it provides a simplified representation of tissue microstructure. Recent work maps in vivo DW-MRI signals to simulated dictionaries generated from in silico cellular models, allowing estimation of sub-voxel microstructural properties

Comparison review of image classification techniques for early diagnosis of diabetic retinopathy.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the leading causes of vision loss in adults and is one of the detrimental side effects of the mass prevalence of Diabetes Mellitus (DM). It is crucial to have an efficient screening method for early diagnosis of DR to prevent vision loss. This paper compares and analyzes the various Machine Learning (ML) techniques, from traditional ML to advanced Deep Learning models. We compared and analyzed the efficacy of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Capsule Networks (CapsNet), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), decision trees, and Random Fo

Temporomandibular joint CBCT image segmentation via multi-view ensemble learning network.

Accurate segmentation of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) from cone beam CT (CBCT) images holds significant clinical value for diagnosing temporomandibular joint osteoarthrosis (TMJOA) and related conditions. Convolutional neural network-based medical image segmentation methods have achieved state-of-the-art performance in various segmentation tasks. However, 3D medical images segmentation requires substantial global context and rich spatial semantic information, demanding much more GPU memory and computational resources. To address these challenges in 3D medical image segmentation, we propos

Optimization: Molecular Communication Networks for Viral Disease Analysis Using Deep Leaning Autoencoder.

Developing new treatments for emerging infectious diseases in infectious and noninfectious diseases has attracted a particular attention. The emergence of viral diseases is expected to accelerate; these data indicate the need for a proactive approach to develop widely active family specific and cross family therapies for future disease outbreaks. Viral disease such as pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome type 2, HIV infection, and Hepatitis-C virus can cause directly and indirectly cardiovascular disease (CVD). Emphasis should be placed not only on the development of broad-spectrum mol

Ros-NET: A deep convolutional neural network for automatic identification of rosacea lesions.

BACKGROUND: Rosacea is one of the most common cutaneous disorder characterized primarily by facial flushing, erythema, papules, pustules, telangiectases, and nasal swelling. Diagnosis of rosacea is principally done by a physical examination and a consistent patient history. However, qualitative human assessment is often subjective and suffers from a relatively high intra- and inter-observer variability in evaluating patient outcomes. MATERIALS AND METHODS: To overcome these problems, we propose a quantitative and reproducible computer-aided diagnosis system, Ros-NET, which integrates informat

Breast Cancer Identification via Thermography Image Segmentation with a Gradient Vector Flow and a Convolutional Neural Network.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women worldwide with about half a million cases reported each year. Mammary thermography can offer early diagnosis at low cost if adequate thermographic images of the breasts are taken. The identification of breast cancer in an automated way can accelerate many tasks and applications of pathology. This can help complement diagnosis. The aim of this work is to develop a system that automatically captures thermographic images of breast and classifies them as normal and abnormal (without cancer and with cancer). This paper focuses on a segmentation me

Classification of acute lymphoblastic leukemia using deep learning.

Acute Leukemia is a life-threatening disease common both in children and adults that can lead to death if left untreated. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) spreads out in children's bodies rapidly and takes the life within a few weeks. To diagnose ALL, the hematologists perform blood and bone marrow examination. Manual blood testing techniques that have been used since long time are often slow and come out with the less accurate diagnosis. This work improves the diagnosis of ALL with a computer-aided system, which yields accurate result by using image processing and deep learning techniques.

A methodological approach for deep learning to distinguish between meningiomas and gliomas on canine MR-images.

BACKGROUND: Distinguishing between meningeal-based and intra-axial lesions by means of magnetic resonance (MR) imaging findings may occasionally be challenging. Meningiomas and gliomas account for most of the total primary brain neoplasms in dogs, and differentiating between these two forms is mandatory in choosing the correct therapy. The aims of the present study are: 1) to determine the accuracy of a deep convolutional neural network (CNN, GoogleNet) in discriminating between meningiomas and gliomas in pre- and post-contrast T1 images and T2 images; 2) to develop an image classifier, based

Dynamic thermodynamic-informational entropic relationship (TIER) models of selective vulnerability to neurodegeneration.

BACKGROUND: Neurodegenerative diseases share selective vulnerability patterns suggesting common physical mechanisms. We apply unified mechanics theory to neural systems, predicting that brain regions accumulate structural damage proportional to computational workload. METHODS: We simulated a hierarchical neural network implementing relationships between mechanical work (W = F × D), proportional thermodynamic entropy accumulation (Δs ∝ W), and structural failure thresholds. Neural architectures at three hierarchical levels employed Hebbian learning across 2000 simulation sets, tracking thermod

Development of a Small, Low-Power, Real-Time Phase-Dependent Neuromodulation System.

Neurological diseases and neuropsychiatric disorders are often characterized by abnormal neural oscillations, such as exaggerated synchronization or suppression within a narrow frequency band and complex oscillation coupling which disrupt normal brain function and contribute to debilitating symptoms. Phase-dependent stimulation (PDS) offers a promising solution by synchronizing electrical stimulation with specific phases of neural oscillations, thereby enhancing therapeutic precision and efficacy. However, the widespread clinical adoption of PDS is hindered by technological challenges, includi
