Experiences and preferences for psychosocial support: a qualitative study exploring the views of patients with chronic haematological cancers.

OBJECTIVES: Patients with chronic haematological cancers are often treated on a relapsing-remitting pathway, which may extend for many years. Such diagnoses are associated with uncertainties that often cause anxiety and distress, meaning patients (and families) are susceptible to potentially prolonged emotional difficulties, across the cancer journey. Experiences and preferences regarding psychosocial needs and support over time are relatively unexplored, which this study aimed to address. SETTING AND DESIGN: Set within the UK's Haematological Malignancy Research Network (an ongoing populatio

Patients' and family members' dyadic experience of post-operative delirium in the intensive care unit: A qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Post-operative delirium is a complication with long-lasting consequences for both patients and their families. This is particularly true for those transferred to the intensive care unit after surgery, where the incidence of post-operative delirium is high, and patient outcomes are often poor. Despite the acknowledged role of family engagement in delirium management, previous research has mainly focused on patients, with limited exploration of the shared experiences between patients and family members. AIM: This study aims to explore the experiences of patients and family members d

Fostering next generation transplant physicians.

As opposed to the rapid expansion of hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and other cellular therapies (CT), we are now facing a global shortage of transplant physicians and other professionals to support the activity of HCT/CT. To overcome this obstacle, a variety of approaches are now being undertaken in four international HCT societies. This article aims to share their current attempts to foster the next generation of transplant physicians and allied professionals needed to secure the continued global growth of HCT/CT.

Optimization of a home hospitalization program for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with ehealth integration and clinical pharmacist involvement.

Home hospitalization represents an alternative to traditional hospitalization, providing comparable clinical safety for hematological patients. At-home therapies can range from the delivery of intravenous antibiotics to more complex scenarios, such as the care during the early period after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapy. Early discharge from conventional hospitalization is feasible and helps reduce hospital resources and waiting lists. The coordinated efforts of multidisciplinary teams, including hematologists, nurses, and pharmacists, ensu

Mayo Clinic Hematology Fellowship for Advanced Practice Providers.

Advanced practice providers (APPs), including nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs), are part of a growing cancer care workforce. Current hematology-specific education provided by most graduate NP and PA school educations is limited. Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences launched a hematology-specific fellowship in 2018 to provide APPs with the skills and knowledge required to deliver high-quality specialty care in hematology and blood and marrow transplant (BMT). The fellowship curriculum was developed based on a needs-based assessment study as well as the qualitative repor

Subcutaneous administration of isatuximab in patients with multiple myeloma by an on-body delivery system: results of a nurse survey.

IntroductionSubcutaneous (SC) administration of the anti-CD38 antibody isatuximab (Isa) by an on-body delivery system (OBDS), plus pomalidomide-dexamethasone, has demonstrated safety and efficacy comparable to intravenous (IV) administration, with no infusion reactions and excellent local tolerability in multiple myeloma (MM) patients. We report here results of a nurse survey designed to evaluate convenience of treatment with SC Isa, via OBDS, for healthcare providers and MM patients.MethodsA newly developed, expert-vetted questionnaire was used to survey nurses with experience in SC administr

A Qualitative Investigation of Health Care Professionals', Patients' and Partners' Views on Psychosocial Issues and Related Interventions for Couples Coping with Cancer.

IntroductionThere is growing evidence that cancer affects couples as an interdependent system and that couple-based psychosocial interventions are efficacious in reducing distress and improving coping skills. However, adoption of a couples-focused approach into cancer care is limited. Previous research has shown that patients and partners hold differing views from health care professionals (HCPs) regarding their psychosocial needs, and HCPs from different disciplines also hold divergent views regarding couples' psychosocial needs. This study aimed to explore the perspectives of HCPs and couple

Haematologists' experiences implementing patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in an outpatient clinic: a qualitative study for applied practice.

BackgroundThe patient-doctor relationship is crucial to provide person-centred care, allowing the alleviation of symptom burden caused by disease or treatment. Implementing Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) is suggested to inform the decision-making process and lead to initiation of care. Yet there are knowledge gaps regarding how meaningful it is to incorporate PROMs in clinical settings. The aim of this study was to investigate haematologists' experiences when PROMs were implemented in an outpatient setting.MethodsFourteen participant observations, 13 individual interviews and three

Effect of healthcare professional-delivered health literacy interventions on patient reported outcomes in cancer patients - a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Cancer impairs quality of life (QoL) and mental wellbeing and other patient-reported outcomes (PROs). Health literacy (HL) in cancer patients can be an intermediary factor and can improve PROs. For this reason, the aim of this systematic review is to identify HL interventions delivered by healthcare professionals (HCPs) that have an impact on PROs. METHODS: We carried out a comprehensive literature search on 1 December 2023 across nine databases and included studies 1) with HL interventions delivered through HCPs aiming to have an effect on HL, HL-related outcomes, anxiety, depress
