Postburn dyspigmented scar contractures of the upper extremity often require aesthetic improvement. The ideal reconstruction of this deformity remains a challenge because the various available skin grafts and flaps result in skin colour mismatches, prominent marginal scars and donor morbidity. Lasers are frequently used to treat pigmented skin lesions; however, there is little published data from routine clinical practice. We performed a retrospective review of patients treated between January 2003 and January 2004 to describe the patients, methods used and the clinical outcome. Iatrogenic hyperadrenocorticism is an extremely rare condition in cats. Twelve cats with a medical history of progressive skin lesions and long-term treatment with corticosteroids were retrospectively studied. Noncutaneous signs in the cats were variable and included anorexia, lethargy, polydipsia, polyuria, and atrophy of the thigh muscles. Mandibuloacral dysplasia is a rare syndrome characterized by mandibular hypoplasia, delayed cranial suture closure, dysplastic clavicles, abbreviated, club-shaped terminal phalanges, acroosteolysis, atrophy of the skin over the hands and feet, and poikilodermatous skin changes. We describe the cases of two siblings with features of mandibuloacral dysplasia who as children were considered to have hereditary sclerosing poikiloderma. On their reevaluation as adults, the clinical features of their condition were perceived to be compatible with mandibuloacral dysplasia.

Collagen from allogenic and xenogeneic sources has been made soluble by controlled proteolytic digestion. The monomeric, telopeptide-poor collagen so prepared forms a cohesive mass when warmed to body temperature (upon injection), creating a structural basis for new soft connective tissue. We have treated 28 patients with human and/or bovine collagen injections for the correction of soft tissue contour defects, and we have followed them for 3 to 18 months. In most instances, there has been lasting and substantial correction of the defects treated. The complications have been few and transient.
