Propofol Versus Remimazolam in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy: A Comprehensive Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Propofol is the most commonly used intravenous anesthetic for endoscopic surgery, although it comes with various adverse effects. Research indicates that Remimazolam, which is considered a safe general anesthetic, is being increasingly adopted as an alternative to propofol in clinical settings. Our meta-analysis sought to evaluate whether the rate of adverse reactions associated with Remimazolam in gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures is acceptable, and whether its surgical success rate is at least comparable to that of propofol. METHODS: Following the PRISMA (Preferred Reportin

The Effect of Remimazolam Administration on Emergence Delirium in Children After General Anesthesia: A Systematic Review With Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

BACKGROUND: Emergence delirium commonly occurs in pediatric patients after general anesthesia, causing distress and potential harm. Remimazolam, an ultra-short-acting benzodiazepine, has recently been introduced in pediatric anesthesia, but its preventive role against emergence delirium remains unclear. AIMS: This systematic review with meta-analysis evaluated the effect of remimazolam on the incidence and severity of emergence delirium in children undergoing general anesthesia. METHODS: PubMed, EMBASE, CENTRAL, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were searched for relevant studies. T

From passive monitoring to active engagement: a systematic review and meta-analysis of digital health technologies for improving objective physical activity and cardiorespiratory fitness in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

BACKGROUND: Physical inactivity is a critical factor exacerbating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and its associated comorbidities. Previous evidence has largely relied on subjective questionnaires, leading to a lack of definitive evidence based on objective measurements. This study aimed to systematically evaluate the effects of digital health interventions (DHIs) on objective physical activity, body composition, and sleep parameters in OSA patients, while further exploring the efficacy differences between active intervention and passive monitoring modes. METHODS: A systematic search was condu

Progression-Free Survival in Metastatic Breast Cancer by Local Investigators vs Blinded Independent Central Review: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Progression-free survival (PFS) is a widely accepted primary end point in metastatic breast cancer (mBC) trials; however, it remains susceptible to assessment bias. To reduce this risk, blinded independent central review (BICR) is often incorporated into trial designs, but emerging evidence has suggested discordance between investigator- and BICR-assessed PFS. OBJECTIVE: To compare BICR- and investigator-assessed PFS of patients with hormone receptor-positive/ERBB2-negative mBC. DATA SOURCES: PubMed, Embase, CENTRAL, and major conference proceedings were searched from database in

Curcumin Supplementation in Critically Ill Patients: A GRADE-Assessed Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trial.

Curcuminoids are dietary polyphenols that can improve health indices through various mechanisms, such as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and other clinical properties. Due to the lack of evidence on the efficacy of curcuminoids in critically ill patients, this meta-analysis was conducted. The aim of this study was to assess and quantify the influence of curcumin supplementation on markers of inflammation, liver function, and clinical outcomes in critically ill patients. In this study, relevant randomized clinical trials were identified via electronic database searches, including MEDLINE, Scopu

Closed incision negative pressure wound therapy after emergency laparotomy: a systematic review and Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

PURPOSE: Emergency laparotomy is associated with high rates of postoperative wound complications, contributing substantially to patient morbidity and healthcare burden. Closed incision negative pressure wound therapy (ciNPWT) has been proposed as a prophylactic strategy to reduce wound-related complications; however, its effectiveness in the emergency laparotomy setting remains uncertain. We evaluated whether ciNPWT reduces wound complications after emergency laparotomy compared with standard dressings. METHODS: This study is a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled tria

Retention strategies and participant retention rates among prospective longitudinal pregnancy cohorts: a systematic mapping review.

Prospective longitudinal pregnancy cohorts can answer questions about fetal and early life exposures and later health outcomes; however, there are challenges to retaining participants in longitudinal studies, particularly over life transitions like the birth of a child. Optimal methods for retaining participants in longitudinal research are unclear. A systematic mapping review was conducted to identify prospective cohort studies and randomized controlled trials that enrolled pregnant participants and their infants. Data on retention rates and 17 retention strategies was extracted. A random eff

Fifteen Years Since the Head Injury Retrieval Trial: What Have We Learned?

It is 15 years since the Head Injury Retrieval Trial recruited its last patient in Sydney, Australia. The trial remains the only randomised controlled trial of severely injured patients to directly compare an advanced clinical intervention team delivered by a helicopter emergency medical service to a paramedic ground response in the world medical literature. Issues with the conduct and confounding of the trial are reviewed, as well as the evolution of the Sydney prehospital trauma system in the 15 years since the trial concluded. The design of the Sydney prehospital trauma system remains subop

Oral adjuvants supplemented to phototherapy as a therapeutic strategy for neonatal hyperbilirubinemia: a systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Neonatal jaundice is a common condition characterized by elevated serum bilirubin levels. Although usually benign, inadequate management may result in severe complications such as bilirubin encephalopathy and kernicterus. Phototherapy is the standard treatment; however, concerns regarding potential short- and long-term adverse effects have motivated the investigation of oral adjuvants as complementary therapies to accelerate bilirubin clearance and reduce phototherapy exposure. CONTENT: This systematic review followed PRISMA guidelines and was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42025107

Rehabilitation strategies in post menopausal women: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized trials.

BACKGROUND: Women undergo progressive musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and metabolic changes during menopause that usually end up in less functional capacity, compensatory balance impairment, and reduced quality of lives. The further decrease of estrogen levels heightens the risk of osteoporosis, sarcopenia, and cardiovascular disease, rendering them more vulnerable to functional deterioration because they will all occur after menopause. Recently, rehabilitation and physical exercise-based approaches are recommended as nonpharmacological solutions to fix these health problems. Nevertheless, ev
