Conservative therapy is favored over revascularization for patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and intermittent claudication (IC) owing to the better long-term results. The adjunctive use of intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) significantly improves endovascular therapy. However, data on IVUS and IC is scarce. Therefore, the aim of this investigation was to determine the safety and efficacy of IVUS in patients with IC and to evaluate discrepancies compared to angiography and potential consequences for treatment. This was a single-center prospective cohort study. Twenty patients with IC

We describe the use of an Amplatzer Vascular Plug (AVP) II for embolizing a large high-flow splenic arteriovenous fistula and an aneurysm in a young patient. This patient presented to our center with persistent mild abdominal discomfort, 5 years after open splenectomy. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography angiography showed the presence of a fistula between the splenic arterial and splenic venous remnants and a resultant fusiform aneurysmal dilatation of the residual splenic vein. We decide to embolize the splenic artery with a 12-mm diameter AVP II with an oversizing by 70% of the vessel dia

Aortic arch aneurysm is a rare condition but carries a high risk of rupture. We report one case of aortic arch aneurysm combined with aortic arch coarctation and left internal carotid artery aneurysm, which is extremely rare. Left internal carotid artery aneurysm resection and revascularization, carotid and carotid graft bypass combined with endovascular stent graft and embolization with coils were successfully performed. There were no any complaints and complications at 8 months follow-up. The follow-up CTA demonstrated thrombus formation in the aneurysm lumen, no endoleak and the aortic arch

Ascending aorta pseudoaneurysm (AAPA) is an uncommon complication following replacement of the ascending aorta with a prosthetic graft, carry a high risk of rupture, and warrant urgent intervention. The open surgical procedure "gold standard" of care is not always favorable, as the reoperations are technically more difficult or patient's general condition doesn't allow proceeding. Case discussed is an 80-year-old male patient who presented with worsening cough and hemoptysis. He underwent ascending aorta replacement 10 years ago. Computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a contrast-filled mediast

BACKGROUND: Developmental venous anomaly (DVA) is considered a benign and asymptomatic cerebrovascular malformation, and only isolated cases of symptomatic DVAs are described in the literature. Even more rarely will these symptoms come from an intraparenchymal hemorrhage caused by the DVA.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We present two symptomatic DVAs by intracerebellar hemorrhage.
CONCLUSION: The diagnostic steps regarding the pathophysiology of DVA hemorrhage and the treatment options are discussed.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus tends to have the greatest impact on the smaller vessels and contributes significantly to occlusive disease from the popliteal artery distally.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical outcomes after a balloon angioplasty with or without stent placement in diabetic patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) by chronic total occlusion (CTO) limited to below-the-knee (BTK) arteries.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: From August 2005, patients who presented CLI and CTO limited to the BTK arteries, and who underwent endovascular treatment, were included in this study. The primary endp

We describe a case of arrested spontaneous mandibular resorption for which there was no effective treatment. A 32-year-old male patient presented to our department with mandibular resorption so severe that the residual mandibular body bone resembled chopsticks. A provisional diagnosis of Gorham-Stout Syndrome (GSS) was made. VEGF levels found in plasma and tissue fluid was believed to be a possible marker for the condition. Although there was no histological evidence for the diagnosis, a combination of the history, physical changes, and pathological findings in the soft tissues, we believe the

BACKGROUND: Aneurysms of the external carotid artery and its branches are rare.
METHODS: We present an extremely rare case of pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery secondary to concurrent intra-arterial chemotherapy via the superficial temporal artery for advanced tongue cancer.
RESULTS: The patient developed sudden and significant oral bleeding from the left tongue base 10 weeks after the completion of treatment. Angiography provided a diagnosis of pseudoaneurysm of the lingual artery, and subsequent endovascular intervention was an effective means of controlling bleeding.
CONCLUSION: Ruptu

Popliteal artery entrapment syndrome (PAES) is the most common cause of lower leg claudication in patients younger than 50 years. The different types of PAES can result in different rates of arterial damage, leading to aneurysmal degeneration or occlusion. We report a rare case of a young patient presenting with asymmetrical bilateral popliteal artery entrapment. Type III PAES on the right resulted in severe limb ischemia and was treated by division of the accessory tendon and replacement of damaged artery with vein graft. On the left, the medial head of gastrocnemius was resected to release a

OBJECTIVE: To assess the role of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) venography in the evaluation of the inferior vena cava (IVC) in Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS), its accuracy as compared to digital subtraction venography (DSV) and the potential of this technique to replace venography for the definitive diagnosis of BCS.
METHODS: Twenty-five suspected cases of BCS were prospectively enrolled in this study and underwent both MDCT venography and DSV. Two observers independently evaluated and graded both the axial and reformatted MDCT images for the presence, site, degree and length of IVC na

A patient who developed necrotizing pancreatitis after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is presented. A 55- year-old man had been followed for chronic hepatitis B infection for 10 years at another institution. He presented with multiple masses in the right lobe of the liver and a metastasis in the left adrenal gland. He was referred after a percutaneous liver biopsy which revealed a moderately differentiated HCC. He was treated by TACE. At the third session of TACE, the right hepatic artery was found to be thrombosed; however, angiography also

Perimesencephalic subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a relatively benign form of SAH. The etiology of this condition is unknown but venous leakage has been believed to be the most likely cause. This report describes a patient with perimesencephalic SAH who presented with a concurrent acute pontine infarct demonstrated on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging. These findings suggest that in some instances perimesencephalic SAH is caused by rupture of a perforating artery.

We report our experience with a combined approach of endovascular biopsy followed by immediate stenting in the management of superior vena cava (SVC) syndrome secondary to obstructing mediastinal masses. A diagnosis of malignancy was obtained in six of eight (75%) biopsies and symptomatic relief was accomplished in all patients. We have found this to be a rapid, safe and effective management strategy that we now consider for all patients presenting with de novo SVC syndrome.

HISTORY AND CLINICAL FINDINGS: For two months a 73-year-old woman had been suffering from intermittent colicky upper abdominal pain. She had also noted transient colourless stools and finally jaundice. Suspected cholelithiasis led to her admission for cholecystectomy. She had slight jaundice of skin and sclerae. Physical findings were unremarkable except for pain on epigastric palpation.
INVESTIGATIONS: Sonography and computed tomography showed dilatation of the intrahepatic biliary passages and the proximal common bile duct, the latter containing a polycyclic mass that on endoscopic retrogra

Since 1986, 75 distal vein bypass procedures have been performed in 72 diabetics with isolated tibioperoneal vessel occlusive disease for limb salvage. Fifty-six grafts were anastomosed proximally to the below-knee popliteal artery and 19 to the anterior tibial artery. Autologous vein was used in all patients. One patient died within the first postoperative month. Of the occluded grafts, only two which failed during hospitalisation were salvaged. In six patients progressive plantar gangrene necessitated below-knee amputation in spite of graft patency. Using life-table analysis, primary and sec

In this report the management of an aneurysmal bone cyst in the cervicothoracic region of an 13-year-old girl is described. Aneurysmal bone cyst is a histologically benign lesion that is often extremely vascular. In the spine, it can cause extensive bone destruction and compress neural structures and this can result in high-grade tetraparesis. In the treatment a three-stage operation with radical total removal of the cyst from two posterior approaches and one anterior approach for osteosynthetic stabilisation gave an excellent result. The value of preoperative embolization to reduce tumor vasc

OBJECTIVE: Seizures are common complications following intracranial aneurysms and present a greater risk to pediatric patients than adults. Though the risk factors of seizures in adults with intracranial aneurysms have been well documented, the risk factors in pediatric patients remain unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the risk factors for preoperative seizures and the effect of the treatment approach on postoperative seizures in pediatric patients with intracranial aneurysms.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The data of 64 pediatric patients (mean age 11.4 ± 5.7 years; 68.8 % of males) wit
