Automated orbital wall fracture detection and severity classification of ocular injuries using deep learning.

Orbital fractures are frequently encountered in maxillofacial trauma and can be associated with severe globe injuries (SGI). Accurate and timely diagnosis is critical to prevent long-term complications, yet subtle fractures and soft tissue injuries may be overlooked. Recent advances in artificial intelligence offer promising tools to support clinical decision-making in acute settings. We collected CT images from 250 eyes with orbital wall fractures treated at a single center between May 2020 and May 2023. From CT scans of included subjects, a dataset of 18,000 annotated orbital CT scan slices

Automated scout-image-based estimation of contrast agent dosing: a deep learning approach.

BACKGROUND: Optimal contrast agent dosing in computed tomography (CT) depends on accurate patient weight, yet manual measurements increase workload and self-reporting can introduce bias. We developed and tested a deep-learning-based algorithm to automate the approximation of contrast agent dosage directly from CT scout images. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 817 patients undergoing thorax/abdomen CT. Prior to examination, patient weight was collected via manual scale measurements and self-reporting. We developed an EfficientNet convolutional neural network pipeline to estimate weight fro

Artificial Intelligence for the Diagnosis of Pancreatic Diseases Using Endoscopic Ultrasonography.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly being applied to medical imaging; however, the evidence base for endoscopic ultrasonography-based AI (EUS-AI) remains limited. We conducted a structured literature search (PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library) for studies on AI for the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases using EUS images. Overall, 1 detection and 17 classifications of pancreatic tumors, 4 classifications of cystic lesions, and 4 focused on parenchymal or station recognition were reported in recent peer-reviewed publications. Deep learning architectures, such as ResNet, EfficientNet, VGG

Noise-aware dynamic convolution for improved generalizability of retinal disease diagnosis using optical coherence tomography images.

SIGNIFICANCE: Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is widely used for the diagnosis of retinal diseases. However, deep learning models trained on a single dataset often degrade when deployed across scanners and clinical sites due to device-dependent speckle variability and acquisition differences, limiting their reliability in real-world screening. AIM: We aim to develop a lightweight deep learning framework that leverages speckle characteristics in OCT images to improve cross-scanner generalizability for retinal disease classification while preserving real-time inference efficiency. APPROACH:

WaveCrossNet: interpretable cross-modal automatic sleep staging for OSA patients.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) patients show highly fragmented sleep with frequent stage transitions, challenging existing automatic sleep staging in feature extraction, multimodal correlation modeling, and interpretability. Current methods rely on fixed-threshold denoising and standard positional encoding, suffering from obvious module stacking and a lack of design tailored to OSA's non-stationary signals. To address these issues, this paper proposes WaveCrossNet, an enhanced Transformer-based model for OSA sleep staging. Instead of simple module stacking, WaveCrossNet embeds adaptive wavelet

KGT: Knowledge-guided graph transformer for neurodegenerative disease diagnosis and brain age prediction with MRI.

Deep learning methods have significantly advanced the analysis of brain imaging data for various downstream tasks such as disease diagnosis and age prediction. However, most existing methods train deep models on large amounts of imaging data, neglecting prior domain knowledge about brain structure and disease. To address this limitation, we propose KGT, a knowledge-guided graph transformer network that integrates medical domain knowledge with brain images to learn more relevant features and complex associations from regions of interest (ROIs), achieving superior performance in multiple tasks i

PIDGN: An explainable multimodal deep learning framework for early prediction of Parkinson's disease.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD), the second most common neurodegenerative disease in the world, is usually not diagnosed until the later stages of the disease, when patients might have already missed the best treatment period. Therefore, more effective prediction methods based on artificial intelligence (AI) are needed to assist physicians in timely diagnosis. NEW METHODS: An explainable deep learning-based early Parkinson's disease diagnostic model, Parkinson's Integrative Diagnostic Gated Network (PIDGN), was designed by fusing Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) and brain sMRI data.

Deep neural network-based detection of lead contamination via Förster resonance energy transfer in live cells.

Lead (Pb), a heavy metal with extensive industrial applications, poses significant risks to human health and the environment. These detrimental effects have driven strict global and local regulations, such as World Health Organization and Taiwan's drinking water limits, to minimize exposure and protect public health. To ensure compliance with these regulatory standards, we engineered lead ion biosensors by fusing microbial metal-binding proteins with cyan (CFP) and yellow (YFP) fluorescent proteins. These biosensors undergo a lead-induced conformational change in live cells, bringing the donor

Designing AI-generated antimicrobials for targeting bacterial microdomains.

Bacterial membranes are essential for processes such as nutrient transport, signal transduction, and maintaining cellular integrity. Within these membranes, specialized microdomains like cardiolipin-rich domains, serve as key sites for protein localization, membrane curvature regulation, and stress response. These microdomains possess high anionic headgroup density and specific lipid composition, which can enhance electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions with antimicrobial agents. In this study, we investigated whether antimicrobial compounds can selectively target membranes with distinct la

A novel approach integrating topological deep learning from EEG Data in Alzheimer's disease.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

High-throughput analysis of EEG data has significantly contributed to understanding neural dynamics in Alzheimer's disease diagnosis. However, the complexity and high dimensionality of EEG signals pose challenges for traditional classification methods, which often fail to capture intricate patterns. To address this, we propose a hybrid approach integrating Topological Deep Learning (TDL) with machine learning models-including Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Neural Networks (NN), and Logistic Regression (LR)-for Alzheimer's disease classification. By leveraging TDL, our metho

Micrographia in Parkinson's Disease: Automatic Recognition through Artificial Intelligence.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) leads to handwriting abnormalities primarily characterized by micrographia. Whether micrographia manifests early in PD, worsens throughout the disease, and lastly responds to L-Dopa is still under scientific debate. OBJECTIVES: We investigated the onset, progression and L-Dopa responsiveness of micrographia in PD, by applying a non-invasive and cheap tool of artificial intelligence- (AI)-based pen-and-paper handwriting analysis. METHODS: Fifty-seven PD undergoing chronic L-Dopa treatment were enrolled, including 30 early-stage (H&Y ≤ 2) and 27 mid-advance

MAN-GNN: An interpretable biomarker architecture for neurodevelopmental disorders.

Neurodevelopmental disorders exhibit highly similar behavioral characteristics in clinical assessments, heavily relying on subjective behavioral reports, leading to insufficient understanding of the neurobiological mechanisms behind inter-patient heterogeneity and symptom overlap between diseases. To address this issue, this study proposes a graph neural network framework that integrates neuroimaging data, focusing on three key problems: Firstly, enhance the nonlinear features in brain neural activity by introducing the Neurodynamics Rössler system.
