This paper reports the results of a pilot study in which 41 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were treated with high doses of salicylate, 3.9 g per day, and the results compared with a further 54 similar patients treated with homoeopathy. Both groups were compared with 100 patients who received placebo. 2 The patients who received homoeopathy did better than those who received salicylate. The results of a computer analysis of 399 patients with documented fractures and/or dislocations of the cervical spine are summarized. Vertebral arch fractures were present in half of all patients with radiographic evidence of cervical spine trauma. Two-thirds of the patients had two or more injuries. Isolated disk injuries were rare and, when present, were characterized by a vacuum sign. The clinical, histopathological, and cytochemical features of eight patients with prolymphocytic leukemia, a rare variant of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, were reviewed. Fifty-one cadavers of human adults of both sexes were examined for the ramifications and site of opening of the cervical segment of the thoracic duct. It was found that the duct opened into veins of the neck through either one (84.31%) or two branches (15.69%). A 10-year analysis of 113 cases of staphylococcal endocarditis seen in two Washington, D.C., hospitals is presented. 96% of the cases occurred in parenteral drug addicts, but 4% complicated septicemia from known foci of infection. Coagulase positive staphylococcus was responsible for 97% of the infection, and the rest were caused by coagulase negative staphyloccus. The clinical and neuropathlogical aspects of four cases of subacute necrotizing encephalomyelopathy (SNEM) in adults, are described. In one, the disease was precipitated by a surgical procedure, and caused death; this resembled cases previously reported. A retrospective study of 331 patients who sustained abdominal injuries during the Nigerian Civil War 1967-70 and were treated at Base Surgical Centres in the 3 Field Ambulance Nigerian Army is made. Seven patients in India with dog-bite rabies were treated by intensive therapy. Hypoxia was prevented by intermittent positive-pressure ventilation facilitated by muscle relaxants and sedatives.
