Associations of mind-body integrative care with sleep, metabolic profiles, and pregnancy outcomes in women with gestational diabetes mellitus: A prospective cohort study.

Sleep and emotional disturbances are common among women with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and are associated with poor glycemic control and adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). Mind-body approaches have been proposed as supportive strategies to improve psychological and metabolic health; however, longitudinal evidence during pregnancy remains limited. In this prospective controlled cohort study, 200 women with GDM were enrolled at 24 to 28 gestational weeks. Participants were classified into a mind-body integrative care group (routine prenatal care supplemented with structured mindfulness

Modifiable Parental Factors and Adolescent Sleep During Early Adolescence.

IMPORTANCE: Sleep problems are common in adolescence and are associated with poorer mental and physical health. Parental factors may be associated with adolescent sleep, providing potential targets for sleep health interventions. Whether these associations are mediated through emotional regulation and screen use and whether they vary by adolescent sex remain unclear. OBJECTIVE: To investigate prospective associations between modifiable parental factors and sleep outcomes among adolescents 4 years later, with examination of the mediating roles of screen use and emotional regulation and the mod

Sleep profile in patients with septo-optic-pituitary dysplasia: protocol for a prospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Children with septo-optic-pituitary dysplasia (SOD) may experience a range of visual impairments and hormonal dysfunctions beyond developmental delay/intellectual disability. The literature describes sleep fragmentation, circadian rhythm disruptions and reduced sleep efficiency. These manifestations are believed to be closely linked to both structural and functional abnormalities associated with SOD, potentially disrupting the natural circadian rhythm. Both anomalies in midline brain structures and decreased visual input could potentially impact melatonin secretion, although a di

Association between excessive daytime sleepiness, REM phenotype and severity of obstructive sleep apnea.

The aim of the study was to compare REM-dependent and REM-independent, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA) patients in relation to their daily sleepiness assessed by Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS). The study included 1863 consecutive patients, who were referred to a sleep centre with a presumed diagnosis of OSA. Following polysomnography, 292 patients fulfilled criteria for either REM-dependent OSA (REM-OSA, n = 102) or REM-independent OSA (nREM-OSA, n = 190). Both study groups were matched regarding sex and age. REM-OSA group had two times lower median apnoea-hypopnea index (AHI) compared

Is tidal expiratory flow limitation predictive of sleep-related disorders in the elderly?

Sleep-related disorders represent an important health burden and their prevalence increases with age. In patients with snoring or sleepiness, the presence of expiratory flow limitation (EFL), determined via the negative expiratory pressure (NEP) method, is related to the apnoea/hypopnoea index (AHI). In this study, we examined whether EFL can be used to predict obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) in healthy asymptomatic older subjects. A group of 72-yr-old subjects (n = 448, 44% males) with a mean body mass index of 25.5±3.8 kg·m(-2) were examined. All subjects underwent spirometry, NEP (

Safety of ramelteon in individuals with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea.

Ramelteon is a selective MT(1)/MT(2)-receptor agonist indicated for insomnia treatment. Because it has no depressant effects on the nervous system, it is not expected to affect the control of breathing. The potential effects of ramelteon on apneic and hypopneic events and arterial oxygen saturation (SaO(2)) in individuals with obstructive sleep apnea were assessed. In this double-blind, randomized, crossover study, 26 adults with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea received ramelteon 16 mg and placebo for one night each, with a 5- to 12-day washout period between treatments. Treatment of sleep disturbances in trauma-affected refugees: Study protocol for a randomised controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbances are often referred to as a hallmark and as core symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Untreated sleep disturbances can contribute to the maintenance and exacerbation of PTSD symptoms, which may diminish treatment response and constitute a risk factor for poor treatment outcome. Controlled trials on treatment of sleep disturbances in refugees suffering from PTSD are scarce. The present study aims to examine sleep-enhancing treatment in refugees with PTSD. We aim to assess if add-on treatment with mianserin and/or Imagery Rehearsal Therapy (IRT) to tre

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms and dissociative experiences: Suggested underlying mechanisms and implications for science and practice.

A strong and specific link between obsessive-compulsive disorder or symptoms (OCD/S) and a tendency for dissociative experiences (e.g., depersonalization-derealization, absorption and imaginative involvement) cannot be explained by trauma and is poorly understood. The present theoretical formulation proposes five different models conceptualizing the relationship. According to Model 1, dissociative experiences result from OCD/S through inward-focused attention and repetition. According to Model 2, dissociative absorption causally brings about both OCD/S and associated cognitive risk factors, su

Comparison of Methods for Sensitivity Analysis of Heterogeneous Treatment Effects in Observational Studies and Application to Alzheimer's Disease and Cognitive Decline.

In Alzheimer's disease (AD) research, many observational studies have shown that the effect of sleeping quality, a modifiable risk factor, on cognitive decline is heterogeneous, where some adults experience faster rates of cognitive decline compared to others. However, these effects are likely confounded by unmeasured confounders, and the sensitivity of these effects to unmeasured confounders may be heterogeneous, where one subgroup's treatment effect is more sensitive than that of another subgroup. Unfortunately, compared to the overall treatment effect, there are limited investigations about
