Cultural Adaptation of Patient Health Questionnaire-9 in Hindi for Use with Patients with Cancer in Community Palliative Care Settings.

ObjectivesPatient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) in Indian settings is yet not very often used in palliative care with the Hindi-speaking population. The Hindi version of PHQ-9 is available but its cultural adaptation to the Hindi-speaking population in North India receiving palliative care services is required to be tested. PHQ-9 as a depression screening questionnaire may help to identify depression symptoms among patients with cancer. This study aimed to examine the cultural equivalence of PHQ-9 Hindi for use with patients with cancer receiving palliative care services in North India.Materi

Important End-of-Life Topics among Latino Patients and Caregivers Coping with Advanced Cancer.

There is a known end-of-life related disparity among Latino individuals, and there is a need to develop culturally sensitive interventions to help patients and caregivers cope with advanced cancer. Latino patients and caregivers coping with advanced cancer were asked to list important end-of-life topics to culturally inform a psychosocial intervention adaptation process. A qualitative study was conducted, and semi-structured interviews were performed, audio-recorded, and transcribed. Recordings and transcriptions were reviewed and analyzed using thematic content coding. The semi-structured int

Randomized phase 2 study of valproic acid combined with simvastatin and gemcitabine/nab-paclitaxel-based regimens in untreated metastatic pancreatic adenocarcinoma patients: the VESPA trial study protocol.

BackgroundMetastatic pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (mPDAC) patients have very poor prognosis highlighting the urgent need of novel treatments. In this regard, repurposing non-oncology already-approved drugs might be an attractive strategy to offer more-effective treatment easily tested in clinical trials. Accumulating evidence suggests that epigenetic deregulation is a hallmark of cancer contributing to treatment resistance in several solid tumors, including PDAC. Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) are epigenetic drugs we have investigated preclinically and clinically as anticancer agen

Patient Preferences for Treatment in Relapsed/Refractory Acute Leukemia in the United Kingdom: A Discrete Choice Experiment.

BackgroundAcute leukemia is a cancer of the white blood cells which progresses rapidly and aggressively. There are two types: acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The latter has a rare subtype: acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). For some patients, following first-line treatment, remission is not achieved ("refractory disease"), and for others the leukemia returns after achieving remission ("relapse"). For these individuals, outcomes are typically poor. It is, therefore, important to understand patients' treatment priorities in this context.MethodsBuilding upon

The patient experience of relapsed refractory multiple myeloma and perspectives on emerging therapies.

BACKGROUND: Relapsed refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) is a disease that is nonresponsive or progressive on therapy, and although patients can achieve remission, relapse is common. As more treatment options become available for multiple myeloma (MM), it is important to understand patients' experiences of current and emerging therapies. AIMS: This study aimed to better understand patient experiences with treatment and therapies for MM using qualitative interviews and patient-reported information (PRI) shared on social media. METHODS: Semistructured qualitative interviews were conducted with

Adaptation and Evaluation of a Symptom-Monitoring Digital Health Intervention for Patients With Relapsed and Refractory Multiple Myeloma: Pilot Mixed-Methods Implementation Study.

BACKGROUND: Relapsed and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM) is a bone marrow cancer that requires systemic treatment, which often results in severe symptom burden. Recent studies have found that electronic patient-reported outcome (ePRO) interventions implemented in the clinic setting have had positive outcomes for other oncology populations. Evidence of the efficacy of a similar approach is lacking for patients with RRMM. OBJECTIVE: Recent recommendations for digital health interventions call for the publication of descriptions of iterative development processes in order to improve reproduci

What should rheumatologists know about Gaucher disease and Fabry disease? Connecting the dots for an overview.

Gaucher and Fabry diseases are lysosomal storage disorders in which deficient enzyme activity leads to pathological accumulation of sphingolipids. These diseases have a broad phenotypic presentation. Musculoskeletal symptoms and pain complaints are frequently reported by patients. Thus, rheumatologists can be contacted by these patients, contributing to the correct diagnosis, earlier indication of appropriate treatment and improvement of their prognosis. This review describes important concepts about Gaucher and Fabry diseases that rheumatologists should understand to improve patients' quality

Remote assessment of cognitive dysfunction in hematologic malignancies using web-based neuropsychological testing.

BackgroundCognitive impairment is a frequent adverse effect of cancer and its therapies. As neuropsychological assessment is not often standard of care for patients with non-CNS disease, efficient, practical assessment tools are required to track cognition across the disease course. We examined cognitive functioning using a web-based cognitive testing battery to determine if it could detect differences between patients with cancer and controls.MethodsWe enrolled 22 patients with multiple myeloma (MM) or non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) and 40 healthy controls (mean age = 56 ± 11 years, 52% male). Incivility Is Associated with Burnout and Reduced Compassion Satisfaction: A Mixed-Method Study to Identify Causes of Burnout among Oncology Clinical Research Coordinators.

While oncology clinical research coordinators (CRCs) experience a combination of factors that are thought to put them at increased risk for burnout, very little research has been conducted to understand the risk factors associated with burnout among CRCs. We used a mixed-method approach, including self-report questionnaires to assess burnout and compassion satisfaction, as well as individual and interpersonal variables hypothesized to impact CRC well-being. We also conducted a focus group to gain a more nuanced understanding of coordinators' experiences around burnout, teamwork, resilience, an

Beyond Numbers: Uses and Value of In-Trial Interview Data for Regulatory and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) Decision Making.

This research explores the growing importance of qualitative in-trial research (ITR) in regulatory and health technology assessment (HTA) decision making. Since 2020, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and European Medicines Agency (EMA) have emphasized incorporating patient experience data into drug development and approval. We reviewed regulatory guidance documents, drug approval records, and HTA reports from January 2017 to March 2025. This included labels and reviews for new drug applications from the FDA and EMA, the Patient-Focused Drug Development guidance series, guidance on rare d
