PURPOSE: We carried out this study to test the efficacy of the olecranon memory connector (OMC) in olecranon fractures.
METHODS: We designed a prospective randomised controlled trial involving 40 cases of olecranon fractures. From May 2004 to December 2009, 40 patients with olecranon fractures were randomly assigned into two groups. Twenty patients were treated with OMC, while another 20 patients were fixed with locking plates in our hospital. The DASH score, MEP score, range of motion and radiographs were used to evaluate the postoperative elbow function and complications.

Ulnohumeral subluxation or dislocation is rare after open reduction and internal fixation of a bicolumnar fracture of the distal humerus. We report 3 patients in whom detachment of the origins of the lateral collateral ligament and common extensor muscle origins from the lateral epicondyle contributed to postoperative instability after open reduction and internal fixation of a fracture of the distal humerus. This may be due to either unrecognized ligament injury or iatrogenic injury during surgical dissection.

We reviewed 17 patients with distal intraarticular humeral type C fractures, treated by open reduction and internal fixation, followed by an early rehabilitation programme. The results, as judged by the criteria of Jupiter, were excellent in ten, good in five and fair in two. Non-union of the olecranon osteotomy occurred in one patient.

BACKGROUND: There are approximately 140 000 people in Germany with spinal cord injury, with approximately 2400 new patients each year. Cervical spinal cord injuries cause, to varying degrees, weakness and impairment of everyday activities of the limbs (tetraparesis, tetraplegia).
METHODS: This review is based on relevant publications retrieved by a selective search of the literature.
RESULTS: From among 330 initially screened publications, 40 were included and analyzed. Muscle and tendon transfers, tenodeses, and joint stabilizations yielded reliable functional improvement of the upper limb.
