BACKGROUND: Duodenal obstruction occurred 4 years following gastric banding for morbid obesity, which had had a good result.
METHOD: A 56-year-old female with a history of gastric banding presented with duodenal obstruction.
RESULT: Physical and radiological examination was able to give the diagnosis. At surgery, the gastric band in the distal duodenum was removed. She was discharged on postoperative day 4, with no complication. At 6 months following discharge, her nausea and vomiting have not recurred.

A wide variety of infectious, inflammatory, and other disorders affect the gastric mucosa in pediatric patients. The most common cause of gastritis in children is Helicobacter pylori infection, which is also responsible for the majority of duodenal ulcers. Acute erosive gastritis is most commonly the result of metabolic stress or drug or corrosive injury. Other major causes of gastritis include celiac disease, allergic disorders, and Crohn's disease. The distinctive clinical, endoscopic, and histologic features of these disorders are discussed.

A 12-year-old entire male Maltese terrier was presented with a 1 month history of vomiting and haematemesis. Microcytic hypochromic anaemia was detected. Abdominal radiography, ultrasonography and gastric endoscopy identified a discrete intramural mass in the pyloric antrum. An ulcerated leiomyoma was removed by a partial-thickness intraluminal resection of the gastric wall. The dog recovered well and is free from clinical signs 20 months after surgery.

BACKGROUND: Several studies have shown that Helicobacter pylori infection is associated with enhanced gastric epithelial-cell proliferation, which is thought to be involved in its apparent carcinogenicity. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of colloidal bismuth subcitrate (CBS) and metronidazole on Helicobacter pylori eradication and on the course of symptoms due to functional dyspepsia. This double-blind study assessed the acute development of NSAID-associated gastroduodenal (GD) damage and its prevention by misoprostol.
