Deep neural networks excel in COVID-19 disease severity prediction-a meta-regression analysis.

COVID-19 is a disease in which early prognosis of severity is critical for desired patient outcomes and for the management of limited resources like intensive care unit beds and ventilation equipment. Many prognostic statistical tools have been developed for the prediction of disease severity, but it is still unclear which ones should be used in practice. We aim to guide clinicians in choosing the best available tools to make optimal decisions and assess their role in resource management and assess what can be learned from the COVID-19 scenario for development of prediction models in similar m

A deep learning model for early diagnosis of alzheimer's disease combined with 3D CNN and video Swin transformer.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) constitutes a neurodegenerative disorder predominantly observed in the geriatric population. If AD can be diagnosed early, both in terms of prevention and treatment, it is very beneficial to patients. Therefore, our team proposed a novel deep learning model named 3D-CNN-VSwinFormer. The model consists of two components: the first part is a 3D CNN equipped with a 3D Convolutional Block Attention Module (3D CBAM) module, and the second part involves a fine-tuned Video Swin Transformer. Our investigation extracts features from subject-level 3D Magnetic resonance imaging (

Artificial Intelligence and Circadian Thresholds for Stress Detection in Dairy Cattle.

This study investigates stress detection in dairy cattle by integrating circadian rhythm analysis and deep learning. Behavioral biomarkers, including feeding, resting, and rumination, were continuously monitored using Nedap CowControl sensors over a 12-month period to capture seasonal variability. Circadian features were extracted using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and deviations from expected 24 h patterns were quantified using Euclidean distance. These features were used to train a Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural network to classify stress into three levels: normal, mild, and high.

Detect pre-cancerous tongue lesions for early oral cancer diagnosis using deep learning algorithm.

Precancerous tongue lesion is a prevalent, complex, and highly perilous kind of cancer. The tumour might be in the salivary glands, tonsils, neck, cheek, and mouth. Oral Cancer (OC) is commonly identified in advanced stages due to the limited accuracy of available screening methods for early detection despite their significant potential to reduce mortality rates. The study exclusively examines lesions that specifically manifest on the tongue. This work demonstrates that one of the deep learning (DL) such as convolutional neural networks (CNN) based models employed are novel in their capacity t

Prediction of Vertical Ground Reaction Forces Under Different Running Speeds: Integration of Wearable IMU with CNN-xLSTM.

Traditional methods for collecting ground reaction forces (GRFs) mainly use lab force plates. Previous research broke this pattern by predicting GRFs with deep learning and data from IMUs like joint acceleration. Joint angle, as a geometric, is easier to collect than acceleration outdoors with cameras. LSTM is one of the deep learning models that have shown good performance in biomechanical studies. xLSTM, as an optimized version of LSTM, has not been used in biomechanical studies and no research has predicted GRFs during running solely using lower limb joint angles. This study collected lower

"Speed": A Dataset for Human Speed Estimation.

Over the years, researchers have developed several speed estimation techniques using wearable inertial measurement units (IMUs). In this paper, we introduce a medium-scale dataset, containing measurements of walking/running at speeds ranging from 4.0 km/h (1.11 m/s) to 9.5 km/h (2.64 m/s) in increments of 0.5 km/h (0.14 m/s) from 33 healthy subjects wearing IMUs. We name it the "Speed" dataset. In summary, we present accelerometer and gyroscope data from 12 speeds and 22 subject-independent sets with the full range of 12 speeds. The data in each set consists of overlapping sections of 250 time

A smart multiplexed microRNA biosensor based on FRET for the prediction of mechanical damage and storage period of strawberry fruits.

Today, measuring the concentration of various microRNAs in fruits has been introduced to model the storage conditions of agricultural products. However, there is a limiting factor in the extensive utilization of such techniques: the existing methods for measuring microRNA sequences, including PCR and microarrays, are time-consuming and expensive and do not allow for simultaneous measurement of several microRNAs. In this study, a biosensor based on the Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) of fluorescence dyes that can lead to the hybridization of oligonucleotide probes labeled with such dye
