BACKGROUND: Timing of surgery for ankle fractures is largely dependent on the condition of the surrounding soft-tissues. This study aimed to determine the clinical effectiveness of a pre-operative in-cast artero-venous (AV) impulse device in the management of closed ankle fractures requiring surgery.

AIM: The aim of this work was to report on our experience with the laparoscopic repair of vesicovaginal fistulae and describe a modification in technique.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Between 2004 and 2008, 8 patients underwent laparoscopic repair of vesicovaginal fistula. All patients had fistulae secondary to gynecologic surgery. This study is a retrospective inquiry among children operated for hydatid cyst which were diagnosed with at least one relapse episode. The study-group consisted of 160 children out of which 110 were submitted to at least one surgical procedure and 35 out of 110O presented hydatidosis relapses. OBJECTIVE: The connection between adhesions and post-operative symptoms is well established. Adhesions are found in nearly half of the women at the time of their repeat cesarean section. For the first time a prospective pilot study has been done in order to evaluate the clinical significance of post-cesarean adhesions.
STUDY DESIGN: Fifty women who underwent cesarean section in their first pregnancy were interviewed prior to their repeat operation regarding their symptoms after the first surgery. The clinical history was correlated with the findings during the second intervention.

PURPOSE: To determine the long-term function of the blood-aqueous barrier after small-incision cataract surgery with implantation of a foldable intraocular lens.
METHODS: The blood-aqueous barrier function in 74 eyes of 62 patients who underwent cataract surgery was examined using a laser flare-cell meter. The measurements were performed pre-operatively and post-operatively between 12 and 35 months after surgery. For statistical analysis a linear regression was used. Among 53 prospectively studied patients who had undergone operative treatment of primary patellar dislocation, 9 (17%) suffered recurrence within an average follow-up of 6.5 years. All the redislocations occurred in female patients. The patients with recurrence also suffered first-time patellar dislocation in their unoperated knee during the follow-up significantly more often (P < 0.01) than the patients with stable knees. The effectiveness of 50 mg cyclizine and 2.5 mg perphenazine against the emetic sequelae of 100 mg meptazinol were studied in a randomized double-blind placebo-controlled trial.
