This report describes the result of a prospective, multicenter clinical trial of the Taylor intragastric balloon for the treatment of morbid obesity. Sixty patients, who had failed sustained weight loss on prior dietary restriction and behavior modification programs, were enrolled in four clinical centers. The Taylor intragastric balloon, a 550-ml, pear-shaped, liquid-filled, silicone device, was inserted in all patients for a period of 16 wk, and patients were maintained on a dietary restriction and behavior modification program. Air-surgeons of the sanitary aviation department of the Vologda Regional Hospital analysed 279 summons to patients with acute gastrointestinal hemorrhage living in the districts of the region. They came to the conclusion that emergency gastroduodenoscopy allowed air-surgeons to identify the source of the bleeding in 97.64% of patients, determine the rational therapeutic tactics, and reach a well-grounded decision on evacuation of the patients to the regional hospital, as a result of which mortality reduced by more than half.

Fifty patients completed an investigator-blind trial comparing bismuth subsalicylate, erythromycin ethylsuccinate, and placebo matched to the bismuth salt in the treatment of gastritis associated with Campylobacter pylori.
