Comparing nab-paclitaxel and solvent-based paclitaxel in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer: evidence and perspectives.

OBJECTIVE: Paclitaxel is a standard therapy in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer, but nab-paclitaxel, a solvent-free formulation with a favorable toxicity profile approved in other tumors, has not been evaluated against solvent-based paclitaxel (sb-paclitaxel) in this setting. This study compares efficacy and safety of nab-paclitaxel to sb-paclitaxel monotherapy in platinum-resistant ovarian cancer to inform clinical decision-making and guidelines. METHODS: A mixed-methods approach combined a systematic literature review with expert discussions. Study selection followed 2 sample frames: (1) r

Evaluation and testing of the proportional hazards assumption in analysis of time-to-event data in subgroup analysis of randomised controlled trials: a meta-epidemiological study.

BACKGROUND: When Cox regression models are used to analyse time-to-event data, the proportional hazard assumption (PHA) must be reassured to obtain valid results. Transparent reporting of the statistics used is therefore essential to interpret research. This study aimed to assess the quality of statistical reporting and testing of the PHA in subgroup analysis of surgical randomised controlled trials (RCTs). METHODS: All published articles (see appendix 1) in the top quartile (25%) of surgical journals from 2019 to 2021 were screened in a literature review according to the ClarivateTM journal

Research progress of probiotics intervention on reconstruction of intestinal flora and improvement of quality of life in patients after endometrial cancer surgery.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to comprehensively assess the impact of probiotic supplementation on gut microbiota composition and quality of life in endometrial cancer (EC) patients, offering clinical insights supported by empirical data. METHODS: A systematic search was conducted across multiple databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and CNKI, covering literature up to mid-2023. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating probiotic administration in EC surgery patients were selected. Key evaluation metrics encompassed gut microbial diversity indices, s

Effectiveness of massage therapy for constipation in children with cerebral palsy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Constipation affects 75 % of children with cerebral palsy (CP). While massage is a safe non-invasive intervention, its clinical adoption remains limited due to insufficient evidence of its efficacy. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of massage for CP-related constipation through meta-analysis. METHODS: Following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines, we searched seven databases for randomised controlled trials (RCTs) on pediatric CP-related constipation treated with massage. Eligible RCTs underwent Cochrane risk-of

Effectiveness of Treadmill Training Intervention for the Management of Patients With Stroke: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Treadmill training, including body weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT), is widely used in stroke rehabilitation. However, its efficacy in improving walking outcomes may vary depending on patients' baseline functional status. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to systematically evaluate effectiveness of treadmill training on walking speed and endurance in stroke survivors and to assess influence of baseline dependency and use of BWSTT. METHODS: We performed systematic review and meta-analysis as per PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Comprehensive search was conducted using Scopus, MEDLINE,

Effects of Mediterranean diet, exercise, and their combination on body composition and liver outcomes in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) is a leading cause of liver-related morbidity and mortality. Lifestyle interventions like the Mediterranean diet (MD) and exercise are recommended for management, but the most effective lifestyle approach remains unclear. METHODS: A comprehensive literature search was conducted in Embase, MEDLINE via Ovid, Cochrane Central, and Web of Science Core Collection from inception to April 1, 2025, without language restrictions. We included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in adults with MASLD or metabolic dysfunction-ass

Supplemental oxygen for symptomatic relief in people with serious respiratory illness: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: People with serious respiratory illness frequently have a high symptom burden and may be prescribed supplemental oxygen therapy with the aims of reducing the severity of breathlessness and improving health-related quality of life (HRQoL). This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness of oxygen therapy versus no oxygen on 1) breathlessness, 2) HRQoL and 3) adverse events. METHODS: A comprehensive search was performed in Embase, Medline and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials for randomised controlled trials published prior to June 2022. W

Efficacy and safety of ketogenic diets in drug-resistant epilepsy: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Epilepsy affects millions of patients worldwide, and approximately one-third of patients are resistant to antiepileptic drugs. Dietary therapies, such as ketogenic diet (KD), modified Atkins diet (MAD), and low glycemic index treatment, have shown potential in seizure control. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of these dietary interventions in reducing seizure frequency and improving related outcomes in individuals with drug-resistant epilepsy. METHODS: A comprehensive search of PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library, and Web of Science was conducted up to De

Renal Denervation for Hypertension: Current Evidence and Clinical Perspectives.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review summarizes current literature on the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension, highlights persistent disparities in care, and critically evaluates recent randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of renal denervation (RDN) to clarify its emerging role in hypertension management. RECENT FINDINGS: Despite decades of therapeutic advances, progress in hypertension control has plateaued, with significant under-treatment contributing to ongoing cardiovascular disease, particularly among women and minority populations. Given the limitations of pharmacologic therapy alone, the

Effectiveness and safety of midazolam versus lorazepam for pediatric status epilepticus: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Status epilepticus is a life-threatening pediatric emergency with high morbidity and mortality, where rapid benzodiazepine administration is critical. However, the optimal agent and route of administration remain subjects of ongoing evaluation, with direct head-to-head comparison between lorazepam and midazolam remaining limited. METHODS: An aggregate-level meta-analysis was conducted on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) comparing the efficacy of midazolam against lorazepam in managing pediatric status epilepticus. Primary outcomes included treatment success and failure rates,

Safety and efficacy of antisense oligonucleotides on triglyceride, apolipoprotein C-III, and other lipid parameters levels in hypertriglyceridemia; a network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

BACKGROUND: Hypertriglyceridemia is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. In previous trials, apolipoprotein C-III (APOC3) inhibition through the antisense oligonucleotides volanesorsen, olezarsen, and plozasiran reduced triglyceride levels. However, the three medications' safety and efficacy have yet to be compared. METHODS: A network meta-analysis was performed to compare multiple doses of the three medications to each other through the placebo. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were retrieved by searching PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science, SCOPUS, and Cochrane until Novemb
