The silent threat: investigating sleep disturbances in hospitalized patients.

Sleep disruptions in the hospital setting can have adverse effects on patient safety and well-being, leading to complications like delirium and prolonged recovery. This study aimed to comprehensively assess the factors influencing sleep disturbances in hospital wards, with a comparison of the sleep quality of patients staying in single rooms to those in shared rooms. A mixed-methods approach was used to examine patient-reported sleep quality and sleep disruption factors, in conjunction with objective noise measurements, across seven inpatient wards at an acute tertiary public hospital in Sydne

Poor sleep quality and its associated factors among HIV/ADIS patients living in sub-Saharan African countries: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Good-quality sleep is defined by its ability to minimize disturbances, provide adequate duration, and maintain a balanced progression through sleep stages. Sleep disturbance is a common complaint in people living with HIV/AIDS. Despite the influence of sleep disturbance on treatment adherence, quality of life, work productivity, risk of chronic illness. Studies have reported sleep disturbances among HIV/AIDS patients in sub-Saharan African countries (SSA), yielding varied results at the country level. Therefore, conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis is essential. This systematic rev

Combined exome and whole transcriptome sequencing identifies a de novo intronic SRCAP variant causing DEHMBA syndrome with severe sleep disorder.

Rare heterozygous variants in exons 33-34 of the SRCAP gene are associated with Floating-Harbor syndrome and have a dominant-negative mechanism of action. At variance, heterozygous null alleles falling in other parts of the same gene cause developmental delay, hypotonia, musculoskeletal defects, and behavioral abnormalities (DEHMBA) syndrome. We report an 18-year-old man with DEHMBA syndrome and obstructive sleep apnea, who underwent exome sequencing (ES) and whole transcriptome sequencing (WTS) on peripheral blood. Trio analysis prioritized the de novo heterozygous c.5658+5 G > A variant. WTS

The actigraphic evaluation of daytime sleep in central disorders of hypersomnolence: comparison with polysomnography.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: The role of actigraphy in central disorders of hypersomnolence (CDH) is expanding but evidence of reliability with polysomnography (PSG) is scarce and provided only during nighttime. We explored the agreement between actigraphy and continuous 24-hour PSG at CDH diagnosis. METHODS: Forty-four consecutive drug-naïve patients (28 narcolepsy and 16 idiopathic hypersomnia [IH]) underwent actigraphy during 24 hours of free-running PSG, during multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) and 13 of them also during maintenance of wakefulness test (MWT). Daytime and nighttime sleep features an

Sleep, hopelessness, and suicidal ideation: An ecological momentary assessment and actigraphy study.

Recent research shows that sleep disturbances are linked to increased suicidal ideation. In the present longitudinal cohort study, we used subjective (ecological momentary assessment, EMA) and objective (actigraphy) measures to examine the effects of sleep parameters on next-day suicidal ideation. Further, we examined hopelessness as a mediator between insufficient sleep and increased suicidal ideation. Individuals with current suicidal ideation (N = 82) completed 21 days of EMA and actigraphy to estimate suicidal ideation, hopelessness and sleep parameters. Multilevel linear-mixed models were

Sleep Disturbance is Associated with Missing PrEP Doses Among Young Black Sexual Minority Men in The N2 study.

PrEP uptake and adherence among young Black sexual minority men (YBSMM), has been sub-optimal. Multiple studies identified sleep as an important determinant of medication adherence, although it has not been examined with regard to PrEP among YBSMM. This study utilized data collected from HIV-negative cisgender YBSMM in the Neighborhoods and Networks (N2) study in Chicago using PrEP (N = 70). Sleep quality was measured using the PHQ-9 and PrEP adherence questions were adapted from Reynolds et al., 2004. Bivariate and multivariable regression analyses were used to estimate associations between s
