Patients with a prior history of an anaphylactoid reaction (AR) to radiographic contrast media (RCM) have an increased risk of an AR during subsequent RCM studies. Based on previous studies in high-risk patients using prednisone or diphenhydramine to reduce the incidence of AR, high-risk patients were treated with a combined prednisone and diphenhydramine protocol in an effort to develop an effective, practical approach to this problem. All patients with convincing histories of AR to RCM with an essential need for a repeat RCM study received 50 mg of prednisone orally every 6 hours for 3 doses

9 children with collagenoses were first treated with AHLG "Dessau" in combination with corticosteroids and then with Imurek (azathioprine). The indication for the infusion of plasma substitutes has been considerably limited as the result of a series of grave incidents. Prior to each application, differential-therapeutic deliberations must decide on the choice of plasma substitute bringing about the desired success in accordance with its physico-chemical characteristics and clinical values. The type and severity of a probable anaphylactoid incident and its therapy should also be considered.

Modern chemotherapy postulates highly active drugs without unwanted side effects. In the treatment of gonorrhea spectinomycin meets even the strictest requirements: maximal obtainable cure rates, no masking of concomitant syphilitic infections, and excellent tolerance. In animal experiments no sensitizing effect of spectinomycin was found even when maximation procedures were applied. Anaphylactoid activity of spectinomycin is low, as has been documented by personal investigational series.
