The authors examined the effect of state anxiety on the personality test scores of 56 patients receiving treatment for panic disorder and agoraphobia. The tests were administered before treatment and again 6 weeks later. For the 40 patients who improved by 5 or more points on the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, significant changes in personality measures were observed at week 6, including increased emotional strength and extraversion and decreased interpersonal dependency. PURPOSE: This study examined the relationships among certain subtypes of panic attacks (full vs. limited symptom; spontaneous vs. situational) and between these subtypes, panic disorder subtypes, and other characteristics of panic disorder, especially agoraphobia.
METHOD: Data were drawn from a large (n = 1,168) treatment study of panic disorder in which panic attacks were carefully subtyped and counted using a diary. Relationships between variables at baseline were examined primarily using non-parametric methods, and the course of improvement for panic subtypes among completers was plotted.

This article presents an overview of the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-benzodiazepine receptor complex (GBRC) and its in vitro modulation by THP, a metabolite of progesterone, as well as the results of a single-dose study of progesterone and triazolam in 16 post-menopausal women. The study results indicate that a 300 mg oral dose of progesterone administered 2.5 hours prior to a challenge dose of triazolam significantly increases sensitivity to triazolam: concentration values required for 50 percent of maximum effect (EC50) decreased by 20 to 32 percent after pre-treatment with progesterone.
