Psychometric Performance of Children With Amblyopia During a Tablet-Based Adaptive Visual Acuity Assessment.

PURPOSE: Visual acuity is a key metric for the diagnosis of amblyopia. Here, we introduce a self-administered near visual acuity (VA) test using the Angular Indication Measurement paradigm (AIM-VA) and evaluate it in children with and without amblyopia. METHODS: Thirty-five children (age range, 5-16 years; 20 males) with (n = 22) and without (n = 13) amblyopia monocularly completed the AIM-VA twice within the same day and a Snellen-VA test. The AIM-VA presented three 4 × 4 charts of Landolt-C optotypes that adaptively varied in size and had randomized gap orientations. Orientation report erro

Cortico-retinal decoupling in anisometropic amblyopia: OCTA-VEP multimodal biomarkers reveal neurovascular mismatch patterns.

BACKGROUND: To investigate the retinal microcirculation changes in children with anisometropic amblyopia through multimodal assessment and explore its correlation with neurophysiological dysfunction. METHODS: This prospective cross-sectional study recruited 68 treatment-naïve children (aged 4-14 years) with primary monocular anisometropic amblyopia. The fellow healthy eye served as the control. Macular microvascular parameters, including foveal avascular zone (FAZ) area and superficial capillary plexus (SCP) perfusion density, were quantified using optical coherence tomography angiography (OC

Environmental Enrichment Enhances Visual Function in Adult Amblyopia: Association With miR-132/HDAC3 Regulation.

Amblyopia is a neurodevelopmental disorder for which effective treatments in adults are limited due to reduced cortical plasticity. Environmental enrichment (EE) can partially restore this plasticity, but the underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. This study investigated whether the miR-132/HDAC3 pathway is associated with EE-induced visual recovery in adult amblyopic mice. An adult amblyopia model (n = 64) was established via monocular deprivation (MD). Amblyopic mice were assigned to untreated, standard housing (SH), or EE groups, with normal mice as controls. Visual function was as

ON-Pathway visual acuity deficits in 8-12 years old children with unilateral amblyopia.

Conventional visual acuity (VA) tests, using black optotypes on white background, may not fully detect subtle ON-pathway amblyopia deficits or increases in visual dark dominance. This pilot study tests the hypothesis that VA testing with reverse contrast polarity, white optotypes on black background, is more sensitive in detecting amblyopia than conventional VA testing. Two groups of children aged 8-12 were enrolled. The amblyopic group (N = 13) had a best-corrected VA of 20/32 or worse in the amblyopic eye and an interocular VA difference of ≥ 0.2 logMAR. The normal control group (N = 16) had

Low-level processing deficits underlying poor contrast sensitivity for moving plaids in anisometropic amblyopia.

Many studies using random dot kinematograms have indicated a global motion processing deficit originated from extrastriate cortex, specifically middle temporal area (MT) and media superior temporal area (MST), in patients with amblyopia. However, the nature of this deficit remains unclear. To explore whether the ability of motion integration is impaired in amblyopia, contrast sensitivity for moving plaids and their corresponding component gratings were measured over a range of stimulus durations and spatial and temporal frequencies in 10 control subjects and 13 anisometropic amblyopes by using
