Specific Fasciola antigen was prepared from homogenates of Fasciola hepatica adult worms. The homogenate was ultracentrifuged and the supernatant containing crude Fasciola antigen was then passed over a cyanogen bromide activated sepharose 4B column coupled with antiserum against Schistosoma mansoni adult worm surface antigen. The carbonic anhydrase activity of human platelets was investigated by measuring the kinetics of CO2 hydration in supernatants of platelet lysates by using a pH stopped-flow apparatus. An average carbonic anhydrase concentration of 2.1 microM was determined for pellets of human platelets. Amyloid fibrils from an individual with heredofamilial amyloidosis were found to be composed of plasma prealbumin. To study this protein a three step procedure to isolate prealbumin from plasma was developed. The sensitivities of ELISA systems for assays of Shigella sonnei O-antigen, developed on the basis of specific rabbit antibodies isolated from antisera by different chromatography techniques have been compared. The highest specificity and sensitivity of O-antigen determination (0.5-1 ng/ml) is achieved when using affinity-isolated antibodies to O-antigen. OBJECTIVES: Deoxyribonuclease (DNase) is widely used in treating obstructed purulent sputum drainage caused by bronchiectasis, lung abscess, cystic fibrosis, and atelectasis and inhibits biofilm formation.

Anti-neuroexcitation peptide (ANEP) is a novel recombinant peptide obtained from the venom of the Chinese scorpion Buthus martensii Karsch. However, the expression of recombinant ANEP in Escherichia coli results in the formation of insoluble aggregates known as inclusion bodies. Here, we describe a novel method for the preparation of ANEP which maximizes the yields of recombinant peptide in a soluble and active form. A non-fusion expression plasmid pNJUTRX-1-ANEP-His(6) encoding recombinant ANEP with a His(6)-tag at its C-terminus was constructed and transformed into E. coli strain BL21 (DE3).

Immunization of rabbits with bovine brain gangliosides induced an experimental neuropathy, with clinical signs resembling Guillain-Barré syndrome.
