Two carbonic anhydrase isozymes were found in the rabbit ciliary body. Their isoelectric points were determined to be pH 6.6 and pH 7.4, respectively. The total activity of the higher isoelectric point isozyme was higher than that of the lower isoelectric point isozyme.

Recent studies have indicated that sensory terminals can be recognized by the presence of an accumulation of mitochondria. By inducing changes in uveal ophthalmic nerve fibers it was shown that an accumulation of mitochondria also occurs in autonomic terminals. Although an aggregation of mitochondria may occur in sensory terminals, it is not a feature unique to them. The ophthalmic fibers in the iris and the ciliary body appeared to terminate as free nerve endings without characteristics peculiar to them.

A follow-up study and histologic reevaluation were made of 105 melanomas of the choroid and ciliary body that had originally been classified as Callender's spindle A type. PURPOSE: To describe a case of iris and ciliary body metastasis from lung adenocarcinoma responding to intravitreal bevacizumab and methotrexate.
OBSERVATIONS: A 66-year-old man presented with an amelanotic vascular lesion of the iris and ciliary body (7 × 4 mm, 4 mm thick). Fine-needle aspiration biopsy confirmed lung adenocarcinoma. After intravitreal bevacizumab and methotrexate, the tumor showed marked regression within 2 months.
CONCLUSIONS: Intravitreal bevacizumab combined with methotrexate may represent a minimally invasive alternative to radiation therapy for ocular metastases.
