Parent Management Training Augmentation to Address Coercive and Disruptive Behavior in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Pediatric Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

Coercive and disruptive behaviors commonly interfere with cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) trials among youths with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Although evidence supports parent management training (PMT) for reducing disruptive behavior, no group-based PMT interventions exist for OCD-related disruptive behaviors. We studied feasibility and effectiveness of group-based adjunctive PMT among non-randomized, OCD-affected families receiving family-based group CBT. Linear mixed models estimated treatment effects across OCD-related and parenting outcomes at post-treatment and 1-month follo

Automatic Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease and Mild Cognitive Impairment Based on CNN + SVM Networks with End-to-End Training.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an irreversible neurodegenerative disease, and, at present, once it has been diagnosed, there is no effective curative treatment. Accurate and early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease is crucial for improving the condition of patients since effective preventive measures can be taken in advance to delay the onset time of the disease. 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (18F-FDG PET : PET) is an effective biomarker of the symptom of AD and has been used as medical imaging data for diagnosing AD. Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is regarded as an early sym

Guanfacine Augmentation of a Combined Intervention of Computerized Cognitive Remediation Therapy and Social Skills Training for Schizotypal Personality Disorder.

OBJECTIVE: Impaired cognition is a hallmark of schizophrenia spectrum disorders, including schizotypal personality disorder, and it is the best predictor of functional outcome. Cognitive remediation therapy has demonstrated efficacy for improving cognition, augmenting other rehabilitation efforts in schizophrenia, and effecting gains in real-world functioning. Pharmacological augmentation of cognitive remediation has been attempted, but the effects of augmentation on combined therapies, such as cognitive remediation and social skills training, have not been studied. METHODS: Twenty-eight part

Transcranial direct current stimulation combined with cognitive training for the treatment of Parkinson Disease: A randomized, placebo-controlled study.

BACKGROUND: A number of non-motor symptoms occurs in Parkinson Disease (PD), cognitive decline and mood disturbances representing the most prevalent. Recent studies reported that cognitive training could potentially help to attenuate cognitive deficits in patients with PD and several researches demonstrated a beneficial effect of active transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (anode over left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, cathode over right supraorbital area) on cognitive deficits and mood disturbances. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect

Internet-delivered cognitive control training as a preventive intervention for remitted depressed patients: Protocol for a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Preventing recurrence of depression forms an important challenge for current treatments. Cognitive control impairments often remain present during remission of depression, putting remitted depressed patients at heightened risk for new depressive episodes by disrupting emotion regulation processes. Importantly, research indicates that cognitive control training targeting working memory functioning shows potential in reducing maladaptive emotion regulation and depressive symptomatology in clinically depressed patients and at-risk student samples. The current study aims to test the ef

Increased resting-state functional connectivity of visual- and cognitive-control brain networks after training in children with reading difficulties.

The Reading Acceleration Program, a computerized reading-training program, increases activation in neural circuits related to reading. We examined the effect of the training on the functional connectivity between independent components related to visual processing, executive functions, attention, memory, and language during rest after the training. Children 8-12 years old with reading difficulties and typical readers participated in the study. Behavioral testing and functional magnetic resonance imaging were performed before and after the training. Imaging data were analyzed using an independe

Cognitive intervention through a training program for picture book reading in community-dwelling older adults: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Non-pharmacological interventions are expected to be important strategies for reducing the age-adjusted prevalence of senile dementia, considering that complete medical treatment for cognitive decline has not yet been developed. From the viewpoint of long-term continuity of activity, it is necessary to develop various cognitive stimulating programs. The aim of this study is to examine the effectiveness of a cognitive intervention through a training program for picture book reading for community-dwelling older adults. METHODS: Fifty-eight Japanese older participants were divided in

When self-help is no help: traditional cognitive skills training does not prevent depressive symptoms in people who ruminate.

A randomized trial was conducted to test the efficacy of three self-directed prevention intervention workbooks for depression. Cognitively at-risk college freshmen were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: traditional cognitive, non-traditional cognitive, and academic skills. Consistent with hypotheses, participants who were high in rumination and experienced stress exhibited significantly greater levels of depressive symptoms after completing the traditional cognitive skills workbook than after completing the other two workbooks. This pattern of results held post-intervention and 4 m

Beyond standardized measures: a mixed-methods pilot study of integrated non-cognitive skills training in German upper secondary students.

INTRODUCTION: Non-cognitive skills such as growth mindset, grit, self-discipline, self-efficacy, and resilience have been identified as modifiable psychological resources supporting academic functioning, yet few interventions address multiple non-cognitive skills simultaneously and evidence for integrated programs remains limited. This pilot study examined the feasibility and preliminary effects of a 1-day training addressing all five constructs among German upper secondary school students across Kirkpatrick's four evaluation levels. METHODS: Using a quasi-experimental mixed-methods design, n

Cognitive-motor dual-task training differentially affects visual working memory, multifocal attention, and multisensory integration in youth soccer players.

Cognitive and physical efforts draw on shared resources that are essential for athletic performance. However, traditional laboratory-based interventions often lack ecological validity and show limited transfer to real-game contexts. Cognitive-motor dual-task (CMDT) training addresses this limitation by integrating cognitively demanding tasks into sport-specific motor practice. This study examined the effects of a 10-month CMDT intervention on visuospatial working memory, multifocal attention, and multisensory integration. The sample comprised 34 youth soccer players (mean age = 9.2 ± 1.82 year

Compensatory cognitive training for unstably housed, post-9/11 veterans in residential mental health treatment: A randomized controlled trial.

Addressing homelessness in returning Veterans is a national priority. Contributors to homelessness include traumatic brain injury (TBI), psychiatric illness, substance abuse, and other medical conditions that are associated with cognitive impairment, which can interfere with obtaining income, housing, and rehabilitation. Compensatory Cognitive Training (CCT) is an intervention that teaches compensatory cognitive strategies to improve functioning in prospective memory, attention, learning/memory, and executive functioning, along with strategies to reduce stress and improve sleep. The current ra

Group dialectical behavior therapy skills training versus group cognitive behavioral therapy for adults with ADHD: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, emotion dysregulation, and executive dysfunction. Current treatment guidelines recommend a multimodal approach. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has proven effective for alleviating core symptoms, improving executive functioning, and reducing emotional comorbidities, with benefits sustained for up to one year. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), an adaptation of CBT that integrates mindfulness and emotion regulation components, has also shown

Associations of Physical Activity with One-Year Functional and Cognitive Trajectories Following High-Speed Resistance Training in Older Adults.

BACKGROUND: Engaging in regular physical activity (PA) after completing structured exercise programmes may contribute to sustaining functional and cognitive gains in older adults over the long term. This study investigated whether different levels of PA during the one-year follow-up were associated with the preservation of the physical and cognitive gains achieved after a high-speed resistance training (HSRT) intervention lasting 16 weeks. METHODS: Thirty-six community-dwelling older adults who had previously finished a supervised 16-week HSRT programme were monitored for one year. According

Augmenting trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy for post-traumatic stress disorder with memory specificity training: a randomized controlled trial.

Although trauma-focused cognitive behavior therapy (TF-CBT) is the recommended treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), up to one-half of patients do not respond to this intervention. There is an urgent need to develop new strategies to improve treatment response. Training people to recall specific positive memories may augment treatment gains in TF-CBT. We conducted a controlled trial in Australia with current or former first responders (including police, firefighters and paramedics) with PTSD, who were randomized on a 1:1 basis to 12 weekly 90-min individual sessions of either TF

Anxiety and adjustment following SCI: a transdiagnostic psychological intervention combining Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Coping Effectiveness Training (CET).

INTRODUCTION: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a life-changing experience which can result in a substantial range of psychological challenges. Although anxiety is elevated following SCI, evidence suggests that it is underreported and underdiagnosed, with consequences for long-term physical and mental health. In the UK, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is recommended as the first-line intervention for anxiety. However, people with SCI often face additional and complex challenges, which can limit the efficacy of protocol-delivered CBT. Pre-injury vulnerabilities can compound psychological challeng
