OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of endothelial cell-targeted therapy to cure post-burn hypertrophic scar.
METHODS: A hypertrophic scar animal model was made. Intralesional injecting of VEGF monoclonal antibody was performed for three weeks. The changes of scar in volume and morphology were observed.
RESULTS: 1. The volume of scar decreased. 2. The number of the capillary, the amount of collagen I and collagen III decreased. 3. Transmission electron microscope examinations demonstrated many dead or apoptotic fibroblasts and endothelial cells. Fibrocytes were seen relatively common.

Two Turkish sibs with clinical features of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type VI-B are presented. The hydroxylysine contents of dermis and gel electrophoresis of type I and type III collagen produced by fibroblasts were normal. Ultrastructural studies of skin collagen and elastic fibers showed discrete abnormalities. Other syndromes with similar clinical, biochemical and ultrastructural features are discussed.

BACKGROUND: The normal glomerular basement membrane, composed of type IV collagen, plays an important function in the process of filtration. Rarely, type III, type I, or type V collagen is seen in the glomerulus, resulting in three different types of non-immune mediated glomerulopathies recognized thus far. These are characterized by deposition of banded collagen fibers in the glomerulus.
METHODS: The authors reviewed 4934 kidney biopsies submitted over the past 5 years. Five of these revealed the presence of banded collagen in the glomeruli.

Marginal vitamin C deficiency lasting 19 weeks caused hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia in guinea pigs. In the thoracic aorta of deficient animals a moderate decline of type I and an increase of type III collagen was observed. Both types of collagen isolated from deficient aortas proved to be slightly underhydroxylated.

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a heritable disorder characterized by osteoporosis and increased susceptibility to fracture.
