Fluorescent markers are widely used to protect banknotes, passports, and other documents. Verification of such documents relies upon visual assessment of the markers revealed by ultraviolet (UV) radiation. However, such an explicit approach is inappropriate in certain circumstances, e.g., when discretely checking people for marks left by a pepper gel thrower. The UV light and fluorescent light must not be visible in such applications, yet reliable detection of the markers must still be performed. This problem was successfully resolved using TRIZ methodology, which led to a patent application.

A series of dialkylaminostyrylhetarene dyes constructed from electron-rich and electron-deficient moieties of various structures connected via vinylene π-bridges are introduced as temperature-sensitive luminophores. We describe here the effects of aprotic solvents on the spectroscopic characteristics of bixin. Povidone iodine (PI), a skin antiseptic, is sometimes used internally but this procedure exposes to potentially lethal iodine absorption. Tattoo-related dermatoses are varied and uncommon. Although rare, reactions to tattoos have been reported with a multitude of tattoo pigments and most commonly present with an eczematous reaction pattern. Milia are small keratinous cysts that may arise as primary lesions or secondary to some other trauma to the skin. We report the case of a 28-year-old man who presented with a papular eruption of 3 months' duration confined to the area of recently placed tattoos; the eruption was diagnosed as milia.

Dependence of ultrafast dynamics on the excited state evolution and ground state recovery of a cyanine dye (IR125) in dichloromethane (DCM) solvent interfaced with neat water is presented. We use degenerate pump-probe transient absorption spectroscopy to show that the excited-state dynamics of the dye molecule is strongly dependent on the position of the measurements from bulk DCM solution to the solution near the water layer. Transferable picture tattoos for the skin are popular among children. There is however very little knowledge about the colourants that may be present in the picture tattoos and thus of the risk of contact allergic reactions.
