The impact of student-led interprofessional activity on formulating an obesity management plan: a mixed method study.

This study examined the impact of student-led interprofessional activity on knowledge about obesity, communication within a team, and the ability to formulate a shared management plan. A mixed-method approach was used to collect data from students across four health science colleges, including medicine, pharmacy, nursing, and applied medical health. The quantitative data was collected in two stages; the first stage involved a pre-knowledge test and a Performance Assessment for Communication and Teamwork (PACT) Tool test, which were conducted before allowing the students to interview a patient

Data Standards for Comprehensive Shared Care Planning for People Living With Multiple Chronic Conditions: Critical Data to Advance Health for All.

BACKGROUND: Uninteroperable health data impedes care and research-especially for people with multiple chronic conditions (MCC) or from disadvantaged communities. By enabling the sharing of person-centered data, standards-based care plans may improve health outcomes and reduce disparities. OBJECTIVE: Develop and test interoperable electronic e-Care planning tools to collect, aggregate, and share person-centered data for MCC healthcare and research. METHODS: Using participatory and agile design, we developed, implemented, and evaluated e-Care plan tools-including data standards and clinician-

Participant Perceptions of a Trauma-Informed Advanced Care Planning Intervention: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Low-income communities are at higher risk for adverse childhood experiences and have low rates of advance care planning. OBJECTIVES: This study explored subsidized housing residents' perceptions of the trauma-informed components of an advance care planning intervention to address these inequities. DESIGN: We used a qualitative descriptive design to analyze the post-intervention qualitative interviews. SETTING/SUBJECTS: In a Southeast Nashville subsidized housing community, we recruited adult (aged 18+) residents who had not completed an advance directive to participate in an int

Contributions of Community Advisory Board and Experience of Study Participants in TB/MDR-TB Clinical Trial Management in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: A Qualitative Study.

Community Advisory Boards (CABs), as a form of community engagement, provide an important mechanism to ensure that research aligns with community needs and priorities by representing broader community interests and guiding research accordingly. Tuberculosis (TB) and multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) remain significant public health concerns, particularly due to resistance to key first-line anti-TB medications, and individuals affected by these conditions often face stigma and discrimination that hinder timely diagnosis and treatment adherence. Addressing these challenges requires commu

[The Promotion of Resources Integration in Long-Term Care Service: The Experience of Taipei City Hospital].

The home-based medical care integrated plan under Taiwan National Health Insurance has changed from paying for home-based medical care, home-based nursing, home-based respiratory treatment, and palliative care to paying for a single, continuous home-based care service package. Formerly, physician-visit regulations limited home visits for home-based nursing to providing medical related assessments only. This limitation not only did not provide practical assistance to the public but also caused additional problems for those with mobility problems or who faced difficulties in making visits hospit

Empowerment and Community Process Diagnosis to Promote Epidemiological Surveillance of Nursing Diagnoses: A MAIEC-Based Study in the Autonomous Region of the Azores, Portugal.

This study assessed community process and empowerment in a Primary Healthcare Island Unit in the Azores to support the implementation of Epidemiological Surveillance of Nursing Diagnoses (ESND), focusing on three priority areas: tobacco use, drug dependence, and adolescent decision-making related to sexuality and life planning. Strengthening the visibility of nursing-sensitive phenomena requires integrating nursing diagnoses into epidemiological surveillance systems. A multimethod descriptive study was conducted between September and November 2025, combining document analysis, a community empo

Determinants of modern contraceptive prevalence and unplanned pregnancies in Migori County, Kenya: results of a cross-sectional household survey.

Family planning and contraceptive utilization can have significant effects in reducing unplanned pregnancies and improving maternal and child health indicators. We conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study analyzing survey response data within six sub-locations of Migori County, Kenya in 2018 and 2019. We utilize this survey data to estimate both the prevalence of contraceptive uptake and unwanted pregnancies in the study populations, and to examine the potential role that different factors play in meeting related family planning targets. Descriptive statistics were calculated, and multi

Post-contact Vaccination and Preparation for Future Contacts of Isolated Indigenous Peoples of Brazil: An Experience of the Korubo Ethnic Group.

This study addresses the Brazilian Ministry of Health's initiative to standardize procedures for vaccinating isolated Indigenous peoples who require the intervention, aiming to guide expeditionary health teams in effectively planning post-contact vaccination procedures and preparing for future contacts, aiming to improve them. We also discuss some challenges that need to be overcome to make this initiative more equitable, given the ethnic and health disparities so typical of Brazilian Indigenous peoples, especially the Korubo Indigenous People, who live in isolation in the Amazon Rainforest. Responding to epidemics in large-scale humanitarian crises: a case study of the cholera response in Yemen, 2016-2018.

BACKGROUND: Large epidemics frequently emerge in conflict-affected states. We examined the cholera response during the humanitarian crisis in Yemen to inform control strategies. METHODS: We conducted interviews with practitioners and advisors on preparedness; surveillance; laboratory; case management; malnutrition; water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH); vaccination; coordination and insecurity. We undertook a literature review of global and Yemen-specific cholera guidance, examined surveillance data from the first and second waves (28 September 2016-12 March 2018) and reviewed reports on airst

"They Really Save Us From Ourselves" : Autism Researchers' Insights on Community Engagement and Ethics.

Autism research depends on the participation of autistic children and adults as well as their families, but researchers have not routinely involved autistic people in the planning or execution of research. Community-engaged research practices, standard in other fields such as areas of public health, are gaining acceptance in autism research, although some researchers and other stakeholders remain concerned about their appropriateness, feasibility, or utility. This study, part of a larger project on stakeholder views on the ethics of community engagement practices in autism research, examines r

Cancer early detection research priorities in some underrepresented communities: a commentary of the learnings from a community priority setting project.

BACKGROUND AND APPROACH: Priority setting partnerships for health and social care, which aim to unite patient, professional and other stakeholder priorities for research don't always accurately reflect the views of underrepresented communities. Few have utilised community engagement methods. We expanded on an existing James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership that asked patient, public and professional stakeholders what their top 10 research priorities were in cancer early detection. We worked with community partners to design and deliver an accessible and equitable community-based prio

A quick win for neighbourhood working in England: the Lindsay Leg Club Model delivering for local populations.

The NHS 10-year plan re-emphasises the long-standing policy aspiration for population and place-based approaches to health improvement. The Fit for the Future: 10 Year Health Plan sets out a neighbourhood health service as the practical mechanism for shifting care from hospital to community and from sickness to prevention. There is a gap between known evidence-based approaches to health improvement in community settings and local adoption in service delivery. One of the most underserved populations in any neighbourhood will be those affected by a lower limb condition, people with these conditi

COVID-19 and the malaria elimination agenda in Africa: Re-shifting the focus.

The global Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has resulted in public health, political, scientific and private sector response at an unprecedented scale. However, this shift in focus has caused widespread disruption to global health services and has the potential to reverse gains made in efforts to control malaria. If health systems are not able to maintain malaria control interventions while managing the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, malaria cases will increase, thereby placing even more strain on already overtaxed systems. Using a Narrative Review Approach, this commentary exp

Impact of the health bazaar initiative on sexual and reproductive health service use in Ethiopia.

BACKGROUND: Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) services remains a significant public health challenge, particularly in rural and underserved areas. The Health Bazaar initiative was introduced as a community-based intervention to improve SRH service utilization and family planning uptake among reproductive-age women in Ethiopia. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Health Bazaar model in improving access to SRH services in intervention (Health Bazaar) compared to non-intervention areas (running SRH services in the routine health system). METHODS: A comparative cross-sectio

Community-based management of acute malnutrition in Bangladesh: feasibility and constraints.

BACKGROUND: To achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, particularly reduction in child mortality (Millennium Development Goal 4), effective interventions to address severe and moderate acute malnutrition (SAM and MAM) among children under 5 years of age must be implemented and brought to scale alongside preventive measures. Bangladesh has an estimated 600,000 children with SAM, for a prevalence of 4%, while 1.8 million children suffer from MAM. OBJECTIVE: To assess the feasibility and constraints of community-based management of acute malnutrition (CMAM), a relatively new app

Suicidal ideation and behaviour among community and health care seeking populations in five low- and middle-income countries: a cross-sectional study.

UNLABELLED: AimsSuicidal behaviour is an under-reported and hidden cause of death in most low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) due to lack of national systematic reporting for cause-specific mortality, high levels of stigma and religious or cultural sanctions. The lack of information on non-fatal suicidal behaviour (ideation, plans and attempts) in LMIC is a major barrier to design and implementation of prevention strategies. This study aims to determine the prevalence of non-fatal suicidal behaviour within community- and health facility-based populations in LMIC. METHODS: Twelve-month pre
