A technique for the detection of IgM antibodies to cytomegalovirus (CMV) by immunofluorescence was developed. In order to prevent interference by rheumatoid factor in the sera, IgG was removed by prior immunoabsorption with antiserum to gamma Fc. A cellular antigen from Paracoccidioides brasiliensis, obtained from the supernate of the disrupted yeast phase, was studied. It was prepared by a method similar to that for obtaining the spherulin from Coccidioides immitis. Cattle from several farms in Hungary were investigated for the presence of mycoplasmal infections after the discovery of pulmonary lesions in some animals at slaughter. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) has been adapted to detect class-specific antibodies to yeast and mycelial phase (MP) antigens of Histoplasma capsulatum. Experimental histoplasmosis was produced in rhesus monkeys and humoral immune responses were measured by ELISA and complement-fixation (CF) tests. Anti-p200 pemphigoid is an autoimmune blistering disease (AIBD) caused by autoantibodies against laminin β4 and/or γ1, and clinically resembles bullous pemphigoid (BP) as well as the inflammatory variant of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA). Sensitivity indices for various serologic tests in the diagnosis of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) were determined from RMSF surveillance data collected at the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) during 1981-1984. Studies were carried out on the comparative value of passive haemaglutination, cardiolipin and treponema tests in a total number of 4327 sera syphilitic patients in various stages of the disease and apparently normal subjects or free of syphilis. The results demonstrated the specificity and sensitivity of passive haemagglutination in all the stages of syphilis. In view of the qualities and simplicity of the test, the author recommends it as a screening test combined with a micromethod using the cardiolipin antigen (flocculation test).

Patients with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infectious mononucleosis (IM) usually develop heterophilic antibodies and some autoantibodies.
