Machine learning predictions for enhancing engine performance and emission using aluminum oxide nano additives in castor biodiesel.

This study investigates the role of aluminum oxide nano-additives in enhancing the performance and reducing the environmental footprint of a B30 castor biodiesel blend in a compression ignition (CI) engine, emphasizing principles of green and sustainable chemistry. With global concerns over emissions and the depletion of fossil fuels, there is an urgent need for cleaner and more efficient alternative fuels. Biodiesel derived from non-edible sources, such as castor oil, presents a sustainable solution, but improvements in its combustion efficiency and emissions profile are crucial for widesprea

An Integrated Voice Recognition and Natural Language Processing Platform to Automatically Extract Thoracolumbar Injury Classification Score Features From Radiology Reports.

BACKGROUND: Many predictive models for estimating clinical outcomes after spine surgery have been reported in the literature. However, implementation of predictive scores in practice is limited by the time-intensive nature of manually abstracting relevant predictors. In this study, we designed natural language processing (NLP) algorithms to automate data abstraction for the thoracolumbar injury classification score (TLICS). METHODS: We retrieved the radiology reports of all Mayo Clinic patients with an International Classification of Diseases, 9th or 10th revision, code corresponding to a fra

Developing and optimizing a machine learning predictive model for post-thrombotic syndrome in a longitudinal cohort of patients with proximal deep venous thrombosis.

BACKGROUND: Post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) is the most common chronic complication of deep venous thrombosis (DVT). Risk measurement and stratification of PTS are crucial for patients with DVT. This study aimed to develop predictive models of PTS using machine learning for patients with proximal DVT. METHODS: Herein, hospital inpatients from a DVT registry electronic health record database were randomly divided into a derivation and a validation set, and four predictive models were constructed using logistic regression, simple decision tree, eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), and random for

Clinical outcome of vertebral compression fracture after single fraction spine radiosurgery for spinal metastases.

Vertebral compression fracture (VCF) occurs after stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) for spine metastasis. Recently, single fraction radiosurgery (sfSRS) is used more frequently. The aim of this study is to determine the clinical outcome of VCF after sfSRS. Spinal instability neoplastic score (SINS) criteria were used to retrospectively score 143 consecutive vertebral segments in 79 patients treated with SRS. Follow-up MRI, pain, and neurologic assessments obtained every 3-6 months. Pain also scored at 7, 14, and 30 days after sfSRS. Follow up was 16 ± 18 months ±SD, range 3-78. Long-t

A multi-criteria sustainability and engine performance study of andropogon narudus biodiesel using the PUGH matrix and ML.

The present work provides an experimental, sustainability, and ML-based analysis of Andropogon Nardus biodiesel as a potential second-generation green fuel for compression ignition engines. The biodiesel blends (AN20, AN30, and AN40) were then used on a single-cylinder direct-injection diesel engine over the 25–100% load range and at injection pressures of 190, 210, and 230 bar. Among the three AN30 blends tested, the improvement in engine performance at 230 bar indicates that AN30 provides nearly 15% greater brake thermal efficiency and reduces brake-specific fuel consumption by as much as 31

Simulated tears of antero-posterior rotator cuff force-couple and reduced glenoid concavity decrease anterior glenohumeral stability: a robot-assisted biomechanical analysis of a load and shift sequence.

BACKROUND: The glenoid concavity and the compression applied by the rotator cuff (RC) are essential for glenohumeral stability (GHS). This study aimed to determine how different simulated rotator cuff tears (RCT) and the glenoid depth influence GHS. METHODS: A Load and Shift sequence was performed with eight fresh-frozen cadaveric shoulders in a robotic-assisted setup. Differently configured static loading of the reinforced RC and deltoid muscle (DLT) simulated intact RC and anterior, superior, anterosuperior, posterosuperior, mass, and complete RC plus DLT tears. High-pressure transformations of CaC2O5 - a full structural trend from double [CO3] triangles through the isolated group of [CO4] tetrahedra to framework and layered structures.

Over the past few years, the concept of carbonates, as the salts of MCO3 or composition with [CO3] triangles in the crystal structures, was sufficiently extended. In addition to carbonates, crystal structures with stoichiometry M3CO5, M2CO4 and MC2O5 were predicted and successfully synthesized. In the present study, based on density functional theory and crystal structure prediction algorithms, we found a novel structure of CaC2O5, namely Ca-pyrocarbonate with monoclinic symmetry Cc, which is one of the possible agents of the global carbon cycle. This structure is characterized by the isolated

Bone-modifying Agents (BMAs) in Breast Cancer.

Bone-modifying agents (BMAs) are mainstays in breast cancer and prevent and treat osteoporosis in early-stage disease and reduce skeletal metastases complications in advanced disease. There is some evidence to support that BMA also prevents skeletal metastases and improves overall survival. Bone loss occurs with chemotherapy-induced ovarian failure, gonadotrophin-releasing hormone (GnRH) agonists, and aromatase inhibitors. In some women, the bone loss will be of sufficient magnitude to increase the risks of osteoporosis or fractures. Recommended steps in osteoporosis prevention or treatment in

A Comprehensive Review of Novel Interventional Techniques for Chronic Pain: Spinal Stenosis and Degenerative Disc Disease-MILD Percutaneous Image Guided Lumbar Decompression, Vertiflex Interspinous Spacer, MinuteMan G3 Interspinous-Interlaminar Fusion.

Spinal stenosis is the compression of nerve roots by bone or soft tissue secondary to the narrowing of the spinal canal, lateral recesses, or intervertebral foramina. Spinal stenosis may have acquired or congenital origins. Most cases are acquired and caused by hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum, enlarged osteophytes, degenerative arthritis, disk herniations, and various systemic illnesses. The ligamentum flavum (LF) is a highly specialized elastic ligament that connects the laminae of the spine and fuses them to the facet joint capsules. There are a number of treatment options available for

Periprosthetic Fracture following Partial Knee Arthroplasty.

Partial knee arthroplasty is a procedure with long-term successful outcomes. However, there are several potential complications including retained cement fragments, bearing dislocation, infection, component loosening, medial collateral ligament injury, and overcorrection, leading to progressive arthritis. Periprosthetic fracture is an uncommon complication, with multiple reports showing an incidence of less than 1%. Hence, there are no established algorithms to guide treatment. A consecutive series of 2,464 patients who underwent partial knee arthroplasty between January 2009 and April 2017 wa

Transverse parallel compression suture with endotracheal tube tamponade for management of hemorrhage in complete placenta previa: A retrospective study.

OBJECTIVE: Our study developed the Transverse Parallel Compression Suture (TPCS) with endotracheal tube tamponade, hypothesizing that its transverse compression design would enhance hemostasis, particularly in placenta accreta spectrum (PAS) cases. METHODS: Between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024, 346 women with complete placenta previa were enrolled in this study. To minimize selection bias and control for potential con-founders, we performed propensity score matching (PSM) using a 1:1 nearest-neighbor algorithm with a caliper width of 0.02. The matched cohorts (53 TPCS cases vs. 53 u

Patient specific optimization and planning of vertebral augmentation in osteoporosis: Finite element and Artificial Intelligence approaches.

BACKGROUND: Osteoporotic Vertebral Compression Fractures (OVCFs) are responsible for significant disability, especially among individuals with low Bone Mineral Density (BMD). Although vertebral augmentation methods such as percutaneous vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty offer rapid pain relief and stability, the optimal combination of bone cement properties like volume, elasticity, and distribution remains uncertain. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to optimize these parameters using a hybrid Finite element (FE) analysis and Artificial Intelligence (AI) framework integrating Artificial Neural Networks
