Analysis of "Accuracy of a Seventh-Generation Continuous Glucose Monitoring System in Children and Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes".

In an article in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, Laffell et al examined the accuracy and performance of a seventh-generation "G7" continuous glucose monitor (CGM) system in participants with type 1 diabetes aged 2 to 17 years. The study had notable points which increase the generalizability of the authors' findings to usual clinical practice, such as accuracy assessment across a wide range of glycemia in the arm and abdominal area, at variable rates of change and time periods (beginning and end of sensor wear). However, accuracy measurements in the younger cohort (2-6 years old

Classification and regression tree analysis to understand theory-aligned barriers to glucose self-monitoring behaviors among insulin-using type 2 diabetes patients without continuous glucose monitors.

Glucose self-monitoring is critical for type 2 diabetes management among patients using insulin. Combining behavior change theory with classification and regression tree (CART) is a novel data-driven approach to identifying barriers to self-monitoring. Baseline data from non-CGM-using patients in The GluCoCare Study were used to describe barriers to self-monitoring and use of data to inform diabetes self-care (N = 360). Patterns of barriers that predicted self-monitoring or use of self-monitoring data were also identified. Results showed barriers to self-monitoring were present in each of thre

Forecasting of Glucose Levels and Hypoglycemic Events: Head-to-Head Comparison of Linear and Nonlinear Data-Driven Algorithms Based on Continuous Glucose Monitoring Data Only.

In type 1 diabetes management, the availability of algorithms capable of accurately forecasting future blood glucose (BG) concentrations and hypoglycemic episodes could enable proactive therapeutic actions, e.g., the consumption of carbohydrates to mitigate, or even avoid, an impending critical event. The only input of this kind of algorithm is often continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) sensor data, because other signals (such as injected insulin, ingested carbs, and physical activity) are frequently unavailable. Several predictive algorithms fed by CGM data only have been proposed in the liter…

A breathable and self-healing deep eutectic conductive and tissue adhesive hydrogel for strain sensor and continuous glucose monitoring.

The development of integrated wearable sensors for concurrent physical and biochemical monitoring is hindered by mechanical mismatch, poor interfacial stability, and low breathability. Herein, we present a thin (100 μm), breathable, self-healing hydrogel (ChACm) with deep eutectic conductivity and tissue adhesion. The hydrogen bonding, catechol/phenol-mediated and hydrophobic association networks enable efficient self-healing (91%) and strong adhesion to wet artificial skin (interfacial toughness: 300 J m-2, adhesive strength: 210 kPa). Its high water vapor transmission rate (WVTR:1980 g·m-2·d

Glycemic Patterns Revealed by Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Undergoing Intermittent Hemodialysis: A Pilot Study.

Introduction: Glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus undergoing intermittent hemodialysis represents a clinical challenge. The pathophysiological alterations inherent to chronic kidney disease (CKD) and the dialysis procedure limit the usefulness of traditional metrics. In this context, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) enables dynamic assessment of glycemic profiles and can reveal patterns of dysglycemia that go undetected in routine clinical practice. Methods: An observational, cross-sectional, and analytical pilot study involved 10 patients from the hemodialysis (HD) u…

Beyond glucose: wearable and implantable biosensors for continuous monitoring of metabolic, hormonal, and inflammatory biomarkers in personalized cardiometabolic care.

Wearable and implantable biosensors are shifting biochemical assessment from episodic laboratory testing to continuous, context-rich physiological monitoring. Glucose remains the most successful translational model because continuous glucose monitoring has already established a credible pathway for analytical validation, clinical adoption, reimbursement, and regulatory approval. Yet cardiometabolic disease is not a single-analyte disorder. Insulin resistance, obesity, hypertension, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, stress-axis dysregulation, and chronic low-grade inflammation arise from i…

Continuous Glucose Monitoring in People at High Risk of Diabetes and Dysglycaemia: Transforming Early Risk Detection and Personalised Care.

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-based interventions have been predominantly conducted in people with established diabetes. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in using CGM for clinical and research purposes in people without diabetes. In this review, we describe the current evidence regarding the use of CGM in people at high risk of diabetes. To date, there is no strong evidence to support the global implementation of CGM in individuals who are at risk of developing diabetes. However, there are promising results highlighting the benefits of CGM in specific populations such as p…
