Maternal and cross-stage effects of Metarhizium pingshaense fungal infection on the malaria mosquito Anopheles coluzzii life-history.

BACKGROUND: Entomopathogenic fungi of the genus Metarhizium are widely used as eco-friendly biocontrol agents against insect vectors, offering a cost-effective alternative to chemical insecticides. While these fungi have demonstrated potential as larvicides against malaria vectors, their impacts on mosquito life-history traits and maternal effects remain poorly understood. This study evaluated the effects of locally isolated Metarhizium pingshaense strains (S10 and S26) on survival, development, reproductive fitness, and maternal effects in Anopheles coluzzii mosquitoes. METHODS: We assessed

SARS-CoV-2 spike antibodies cross-react with dengue virus and enhance infection in vitro and in vivo.

The presence of non-neutralizing antibodies of any dengue serotype increases the severity of subsequent infection by other dengue serotypes. During the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, the number of symptomatic dengue cases increased in India. We found that antibodies isolated from convalescent plasma from COVID-19 patients enhances DENV2 infection in vitro. CR3022, an antibody against the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, also elevated DENV2 infection in vitro. In silico protein-protein interactions between spike antibodies and the DENV2 E-protein revealed significant interactions. Likewise, few monoclonal/polyc

[Rehabilitation of Health Care and Social Workers after COVID-19 Infection: Results of a Retrospective Cross-sectional Study].

During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers showed a twofold increased risk of infection. Many still report persisting symptoms a few months after initial infection such as fatigue, headaches and cognitive impairment, often resulting in incapacity to work and reduced ability to carry out tasks of everyday life. When such symptoms persist for longer than three months, it is known as post-covid-syndrome (PCS). Only a few studies have evaluated outpatient rehabilitation for post-covid conditions. The objective of this study was to assess patient experience and satisfaction with rehabilitatio

Ad5-boosted COVID-19 vaccine reduces symptomatic BA.5 infection via cross-neutralizing antibodies and NK cell immunity.

BACKGROUND: During the COVID-19 pandemic, diverse vaccine strategies were applied globally, yet most relied on immunogenicity evaluations and bridging trials rather than retrospective assessment through real-world infections. This limited understanding of protective mechanisms under natural variant exposure. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of real-world BA.5 infections was used to analyze the protective efficacy of Ad5-nCoV booster vaccination (A-A). Multi-layered immune profiling was performed, including neutralizing antibodies (NAbs), single-cell BCR sequencing (BCR usage), transcript

Baseline infection prevalence, risk factors and treatment outcomes of visceral leishmaniasis in Northeastern Uganda: A cross-sectional study.

INTRODUCTION: Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) also known as Kala-azar is one of the neglected tropical diseases (NTD) of public health importance. Despite being a disease of a long history, the condition remains poorly studied especially in East Africa. For instance, whereas, the geographical location of the disease is known, there is a stark paucity of data on the burden, risk factors and clinical outcomes of this condition in Northeastern Uganda. Therefore, the disease picture in these settings is incomplete. The overarching aim for this study was to describe pre-elimination prevalence, associat
