Opinions differ concerning the relation between dyslexia and visual perception. In this pilot study we addressed this question by analyzing the results of visual perceptual testing on 19 elementary grade subjects diagnosed as having dyseidesia, one type of dyslexia that manifests as problems with sight-word recognition. The Chinese total diet study in 1990 estimated the dietary intake of 24 chemical contaminants and 72 nutrients from 4 market baskets collected and prepared in 12 provinces. The risks of incidents and accidents--especially systemic ones--complicating topical scabies treatment in infants are reviewed. After a short review concerning insecticides (sulphur, benzyl-benzoate, DDT, Lindane, Crotamiton) and the use of several drugs proposed for infants, the authors insist on the choice of the drug and the therapeutic protocol, that are as important as the drug itself. Directions for use should be strict, in order to avoid automedication and overdosage. There is no study concerning the comparative evaluation of risks and efficacy of each drug.

Inhalation pharmacokinetics of dichlorofluoromethane (CFC 21) and chlorodifluoromethane (CFC 22) were studied in male Wistar rats by use of a closed inhalation chamber system. CFC 21 was readily eliminated via metabolism. However, CFC 22 underwent no detectable metabolism; pretreatment of the rats with DDT or phenobarbital did not stimulate metabolic transformation of the compound. Hence, formation of biologically relevant amounts of reactive intermediates from CFC 22 as a mechanism of toxicity seems unlikely.

Two unicellular and two filamentous cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) were exposed under conditions optimal for photoautotrophic growth to eleven pesticides. Low concentrations (0.01 to 5 ppm) of diuron, atrazine, and paraquat inhibited growth. With MCPA, MCPP, 2,4-D, milstem and ethrel, marked inhibitory effects were achieved only at concentrations above 100 ppm. Growth was inhibited by glyphosate, DDT, and thiram at intermediate concentrations. In some cases, the effective concentration of the pesticide varied considerably with the organism tested.
