Investigating the role of dietary glycemic factors and antioxidant capacity, metabolic status, and oxidative stress in seborrheic dermatitis: A case-control study.

BACKGROUND: The etiopathogenesis of seborrheic dermatitis (SD) remains unexplained, although several factors have been considered in this regard. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to investigate diet, metabolic status, and oxidative stress in SD patients. METHODS: This prospective, single-center, case-control study included 49 SD patients and 40 gender- and age-matched healthy controls. RESULTS: Dietary total antioxidant capacity values were significantly lower in SD patients than among the controls (7.16 ± 2.66 vs 12.85 ± 4.26; P < .001). Glycemic load (GL) values were significantly high

The Effectiveness of a New Topical Formulation Containing GSH-C4 and Hyaluronic Acid in Seborrheic Dermatitis: Preliminary Results of an Exploratory Pilot Study.

INTRODUCTION: Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin disease with clinical aspects similar to those of psoriasis, eczema or allergic reactions, appearing on the sebum-rich areas of the scalp, face, and trunk. Yeast like Malassezia species, immunologic abnormalities and activation of complement are recognized as a crucial pathogen for the onset of seborrheic dermatitis. Intermittent and active phases are characterized by burning, scaling and itching, then followed by inactive periods. The disease is sometimes severe up to the erythrodermia; thus, it has a great influence on the patient's qualit

Efficacy and tolerability of 1% ciclopirox shampoo in the treatment of moderate-to-severe scalp seborrheic dermatitis: a multicenter, prospective, assessor-blinded trial.

BACKGROUND: Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a very common inflammatory skin disease. It occurs in 1-3% of the population. The most supported pathogenetic theory links SD to dandruff via a common etiology, yeasts of the genus Malassezia. Ketoconazole and ciclopirox (CPX) shampoo are considered as the first line treatment of SD of the scalp. CPX is a broad-spectrum, hydroxypyridone-derived, synthetic antifungal agent with anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-oxidant properties. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and tolerability of 1% CPX shampoo in SD of the scalp. METHODS:

Eczema, facial erythema, and seborrheic dermatitis symptoms among young adults in China in relation to ambient air pollution, climate, and home environment.

A questionnaire survey on dermal symptoms and home environment was performed in eight Chinese cities (40 279 participants). Data on city level temperature, precipitation, PM10 , NO2, and gross domestic product (GDP) per capita were collected. In total, 2.2% had eczema, 2.4% facial erythema (FE) and 2.6% seborrheic dermatitis symptoms (SD). Higher temperature was associated with eczema (OR = 1.09). Higher GDP per capita was related to less SD. Higher PM10 was related to SD. Suburban living was protective for eczema (OR = 0.77) (vs. urban). Living in old buildings (built before 1991) was related

Successful Remission of Alopecia Areata and Seborrheic Dermatitis in a 21-Year-Old Male via Functional Nutrition and Advanced Diagnostics: A Case Report.

BACKGROUND: Alopecia areata and seborrheic dermatitis are inflammatory skin disorders that can be chronic and are often influenced by immune dysregulation, micronutrient deficiencies, and an imbalanced gut-skin axis. Conventional therapies offer symptomatic relief but fail to address root causes, leading to frequent relapse. Emerging evidence supports the use of functional nutrition and integrative strategies to modulate immune responses and restore skin and hair health. CASE PRESENTATION: A 21-year-old male with a known diagnosis of alopecia areata since 2021 presented with patchy hair loss

Global, regional, and national burden of seborrheic dermatitis in individuals aged 55 and older from 1990 to 2021: a trend analysis and future projections.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD), an inflammatory dermatosis, significantly lowers quality of life, particularly in the elderly. Although studies have focused on the burden of SD globally before, trends among people 55 and older have received less attention. Utilizing the data released in 2021 by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) consortium, our research was conducted to evaluate the global, regional, and national burden of SD in adults over 55 between 1990 and 2021 through incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) alongside advanced methods such as joinpoint regression anal

Efficacy and Tolerability of a Shampoo Containing Broad-Spectrum Cannabidiol in the Treatment of Scalp Inflammation in Patients with Mild to Moderate Scalp Psoriasis or Seborrheic Dermatitis.

INTRODUCTION: Scalp inflammation is commonly associated with scalp psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. It can aggravate the progression of androgenetic alopecia and cause troublesome itching and burning. Here, we evaluate the efficacy of a shampoo containing 0.075% broad-spectrum cannabidiol in 50 subjects with mild to moderate scalp psoriasis or seborrheic dermatitis. METHODS: Inflammation was assessed by evaluating the density of twisted/glomerular or arborizing vessels by trichoscopy using a 6-point scale at baseline and day 14. Symptoms of itching/burning sensation, clinical evaluation of
