Sustainable innovation with a method based on peripheral mononuclear cells to screen, monitor and stratify the population at risk of osteoporosis and fractures - a multicenter cross-sectional trial protocol.

INTRODUCTION: Osteoporosis (OP) is a growing global public health challenge, often underdiagnosed and underestimated due to limitations in current diagnostic tools such as DXA-based bone mineral density (BMD) assessment and FRAX score. These methods do not fully capture fracture risk nor account for gender-specific and metabolic differences. A novel patented diagnostic method, based on the in vitro behavior of peripheral mononuclear cells (PBMCs) may offer a more accessible, dynamic, and biologically representative approach to OP diagnosis and stratification. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: This multic

Evaluation of Validity and Efficiency of Diagnostic Criteria in Autoimmune Hepatitis in Children.

BACKGROUND: Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a progressive inflammatory liver disease with various clinical symptoms, but treatment and prevention of hepatic failure and cirrhosis is possible with early diagnosis. However, no specific test has been approved for the diagnosis of AIH. In 2008, the International Autoimmune Hepatitis Group (IAIHG) developed a simplified diagnostic scoring system that has been widely used in practice. Nevertheless, it cannot distinguish AIH from Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC) and consensus is lacking with respect to its validity, sensitivity, and applicability f

Diagnosis and treatment of transthyretin amyloidosis cardiomyopathy: A position statement of the Polish Cardiac Society.

Considering the rare incidence of transthyretin amyloidosis cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM) in Poland, patients encounter difficulties at the stages of diagnosis and treatment. For successful diagnosis, it is vital to raise the suspicion of ATTR-CM, that is, to identify typical clinical scenarios such as heart failure with preserved ejection fraction or the red flags of amyloidosis. In most cases, it is possible to establish the diagnosis on the basis of noninvasive tests. This article presents the recommended diagnostic algorithms including laboratory workup, imaging tests (in particular, isotope sc

A simple and rapid immunochromatographic test kit for rabies diagnosis.

In rabies endemic countries, funds and infrastructure are often insufficient to employ the approved gold standard for the definitive diagnosis of rabies: the direct fluorescent test. In the present study, two types (type 1 and 2) of an ICT kit were evaluated for detection of rabies. These were developed using monoclonal antibodies which recognize epitope II and III of the nucleoprotein of rabies virus. Both kits specifically detected all rabies virus strains and there was no cross reactivity with Lyssaviruses (Lagos, Mokola and Duvenhage), Rhabdovirus (VSV and Oita 296/1972) and other common c

Urinary Biomarkers in Bladder Cancer: FDA-Approved Tests and Emerging Tools for Diagnosis and Surveillance.

Bladder cancer is a prevalent malignancy with high morbidity and mortality, particularly when diagnosed at an advanced stage. Early detection is critical, as it significantly improves prognosis and the patient's outcomes. Bladder cancer also has a high recurrence rate, necessitating long-term surveillance. While cystoscopy remains the gold standard for diagnosis and monitoring, it is invasive and costly. Urine cytology, though widely used, has high specificity for detecting high-grade urothelial carcinoma but suffers from low sensitivity and limited effectiveness as a stand-alone diagnostic to

Establishment of a Lassa Fever Specimen Biobank in Nigeria.

Despite being a dangerous disease found across West Africa, with occasional cases imported elsewhere, few medical countermeasures for Lassa fever are available, with no vaccine or validated treatment, and limited regulatory-approved diagnostics. Scientific research on the Lassa virus (LASV) is needed to accelerate the development of such tools but is dependent on access to high-quality biological samples. To meet this need, we have established a well-curated biobank to prospectively collect, process, and store high-quality, well-characterized clinical specimens from patients with Lassa fever a

The Uncharted Landscape of Rare Endocrine Immune-Related Adverse Events.

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been approved for the treatment of many cancers, either in adjuvant or metastatic settings. Regarding safety, endocrine adverse events (AEs) are some of the most common AEs in ICI-treated patients, with thyroid dysfunction and hypophysitis being the most frequent disorders. However, there are also some rare and very rare immune-related (ir) endocrine complications (incidence between ≥1/10,000 to <1/1000 and <1/10,000, respectively, according to the established classification) that have been reported in isolated case reports, with limited data about thei
