Neuropsychological Findings in Hamamy Syndrome: A Clinical Case Report.

This study, reports for the first time, the neuropsychological profile of a child with Hamamy syndrome-a rare genetic disorder with only five published cases (Buget, Canbolat, Akgul, & Kucukay, 2015). The patient was seen for a neuropsychological evaluation at ages 6 and 7, at the American University of Beirut Medical Center. Procedures included an extended clinical interview with the parent, behavioral observations, formal tests, and a series of parental rating scales. Patient was found to have relatively spared nonverbal intelligence, borderline-impaired language, and clinically impaired

The education of physically handicapped children in normal schools.

This paper is based on our experience in the Central Remedial Clinic over a number of years that physically handicapped children do not in general do well in ordinary schools. An attempt is made to delineate some of the problems that may confront a handicapped child of generally average intelligence who attends a normal school. These problems are associated with the following conditions: specific learning difficulties, emotional problems, poor school attendance, large classes, limitations in ordinary teacher training and lack of remedial teachers and other special staff. The need for early and

fNIRS experimental study on the impact of AI-synthesized familiar voices on brain neural responses.

With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) speech synthesis technology, its application in personalized voice services and its potential role in emotional comfort have become research focal points. This study aims to explore the impact of AI-synthesized familiar and unfamiliar voices on neural responses in the brain. We utilized the GPT-SoVITS project to synthesize three types of voices: a female voice, a sweet female voice, and a maternal voice, all reading the same text. Using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), we monitored the changes in blood oxygen levels in the pref

Positive reappraisal and refocus on planning as cognitive emotion-regulation correlates of psychological resilience: a cross-sectional observational study.

BACKGROUND: Cognitive emotion regulation may play an important role in psychological resilience; however, its association with resilience may be influenced by various factors, including cognitive ability and psychiatric symptoms. We examined whether specific cognitive emotion-regulation strategies remained associated with resilience after accounting for these factors. METHODS: We analyzed the data of 149 healthy young adults. Psychological resilience and cognitive emotion-regulation strategies were assessed using the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale and Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionna

Competence as a predictor of sexual and reproductive health outcomes for youth: a systematic review.

To examine the association between "competence" and adolescent sexual and reproductive health (ASRH) outcomes. Competence refers to the development of skills to perform tasks successfully in four areas including social and behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and moral competence. We conducted a systematic review of research published from 1985 through 2007. Inclusion criteria included use of multivariate analyses, a sample size of >or=100, publication in a peer-reviewed journal, and measurement of an ASRH outcome. We coded findings as protective, risk, or no association and as longitudinal or cr

Brief report: inhibitory control of socially relevant stimuli in children with high functioning autism.

The current study explored whether inhibitory control deficits in high functioning autism (HFA) emerged when socially relevant stimuli were used and whether arousal level affected the performance. A Go/NoGo paradigm, with socially relevant stimuli and varying presentation rates, was applied in 18 children with HFA (including children with autism or Asperger syndrome) and 22 typically developing children (aged 8-13 years). Children with HFA did not show inhibitory control deficits compared to the control group, but their performance deteriorated in the slow presentation rate condition. Findings

Pedagogical sentiment analysis based on the BERT-CNN-BiGRU-attention model in the context of intercultural communication barriers.

Amid the wave of globalization, the phenomenon of cultural amalgamation has surged in frequency, bringing to the fore the heightened prominence of challenges inherent in cross-cultural communication. To address these challenges, contemporary research has shifted its focus to human-computer dialogue. Especially in the educational paradigm of human-computer dialogue, analysing emotion recognition in user dialogues is particularly important. Accurately identify and understand users' emotional tendencies and the efficiency and experience of human-computer interaction and play. This study aims to i

Large language models pass a standard three-party Turing test.

The Turing test has been widely discussed as a test of machine intelligence, but it also provides a measure of how humans distinguish other humans from machines. We evaluated 4 systems (ELIZA, GPT-4o, LLaMa-3.1-405B, and GPT-4.5) in two randomized, controlled, and preregistered Turing tests on independent populations. Participants had 5 min conversations simultaneously with another human participant and one of these systems before judging which conversational partner they thought was human. When prompted to adopt a humanlike persona, GPT-4.5 was judged to be the human 73% of the time: signific

From Tool to Social Actor: A Systematic Review of the Psychological Mechanisms Through Which Conversational AI Reshapes the Employee Experience.

The rapid workplace diffusion of conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) introduces a new social actor, yet existing reviews often neglect the intrapsychic processes through which employees construe these systems. This systematic review synthesizes the emerging psychological mechanisms suggested by the literature through which CAI reshapes the employee experience. Following PRISMA guidelines, we searched the Web of Science database (up to February 2026) and analyzed 84 SSCI-indexed studies based on the sociotechnical systems theory, the Computers as Social Actors paradigm, and the Job Dem

Anabolic androgenic steroid dependence is associated with impaired emotion recognition.

RATIONALE: Illicit use of anabolic androgenic steroids (AAS) has grown into a serious public health concern throughout the Western World. AAS use is associated with adverse medical, psychological, and social consequences. Around 30% of AAS users develop a dependence syndrome with sustained use despite adverse side effects. AAS dependence is associated with a high frequency of intra- and interpersonal problems, and it is central to identify factors related to the development and maintenance of dependence. METHODS: The present study investigated the ability to recognize emotion from biological

Ruminative response style is associated with a negative bias in the perception of emotional facial expressions in healthy women without a history of clinical depression.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Rumination has been shown to be an important cognitive vulnerability factor affecting development and maintenance of depression. Ruminative thinking can be divided into a self-focused component referring to persistent reflection about causes and consequences of depressed mood and a symptom-focused component characterized by repetitive thinking about depressive symptoms. Previous research on clinical depression has shown that rumination is associated with the perception of negative emotions in others' facial expressions. The present study was conducted to investigate

AI-Based Facial Emotion Analysis for Early and Differential Diagnosis of Dementia.

Early and differential diagnosis of dementia is essential for timely and targeted care. This study investigated the feasibility of using an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system to discriminate between different stages and etiologies of dementia by analyzing facial emotions. We collected video recordings of 64 participants exposed to standardized audio-visual stimuli. Facial emotion features in terms of valence and arousal were extracted and used to train machine learning models on multiple classification tasks, including distinguishing individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and

[Comparative characteristics of depressive tendencies in patients with tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease].

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and tuberculosis are socially significant diseases that can develop at any age, and require long-term, sometimes lifelong, therapy. Diseases will inevitably cause a deficiency of oxygen in the body that can cause disorders of the nervous system, from the mood changes to reduce intelligence, especially in the elderly. According to the results of the study the majority of patients with COPD and a third of patients with tuberculosis, there are significant problems of the emotional plane, especially in older and elderly expressed in the presence of depr

A dynamical systems model of emotional contagion: Oscillatory coupling in the circumplex of affect.

BACKGROUND: Emotional contagion plays a crucial role in shaping group dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and affective regulation. Mathematical models of affect and agent-based models of emotional contagion are well established, but fewer formulations combine a continuous valence-arousal representation, explicit multi-agent coupling, time-continuous interaction dynamics, and mechanically interpretable dynamical parameters within a single framework. OBJECTIVE: This study develops a mathematical and computational model of emotional contagion that integrates intra-individual affective dynami
