Among the complications associated with pterygium surgery, scleral perforation is mentioned in cases where subconjunctival tissue must be separated from the sclera. We present a case in which such a perforation and consequent suturing resulted in an intravitreous migration of a suture. We believe this is the first report of such a complication following pterygium surgery.

We present a case where a C-MAC video laryngoscope was used to remove a duodenal stent that was inadvertently dislodged in the patient's proximal oesophagus during an interventional radiology procedure, causing upper airway obstruction. Using the C-MAC and a pair of Magill forceps, we were able to successfully remove the stent. Video feed allowed for further communication between us and the ENT (ear, nose and throat) surgeons.

A 25-year-old woman presented to the surgical unit with a 1-week history of ingestion of a pen. Examination revealed a minimally tender epigastrium with no peritonism. This study evaluated local and systemic reactions after an intravascular injection of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) at two concentrations in a murine model. We experienced disruption of the microcatheter during a cerebral aneurysm embolization and removed the catheter fragment with retrieval forceps. We report an unusual case of orbital cellulitis in a cat. Drainage via the pterygopalatine fossa and medical treatment were performed. Failure of resolution and loss of ocular structure and visual function with a poor prognosis led to enucleation. During surgery, plant material and purulent exudate were present in the orbit. Histopathology showed an intraocular foreign body of grass that had migrated through the sclera causing a suprachoroidal abscess with choroidal and retinal detachment.

A case of a penetration of the duodenum by a needle with migration to the pancreas in a 50-year-old man is reported herein. The patient was referred to us with a chief complaint of diarrhea. An abdominal plain roentgenogram showed a needle in the upper abdominal area. We present two patients who each had a retained subarachnoid drain catheter broken during postoperative removal. Management of these fragments should be individualized. The fragment remained in one patient, but was removed in the other because of further procedures required for hydrocephalus. We discuss possible causes of this complication as well as suggestions for prevention.

Fifty-four patients with problems following "medical grade" silicone injections into the face and legs were seen from 1974 until 1995. Complications consisted of chronic cellulitis, nodules, foreign body reactions, and movement of material to near and distant parts of the body. These difficulties usually demonstrated themselves many years after injection. It is suggested that problems occur despite good technique, good material, and small amounts injected. Because the side effects are unpredictable and often uncorrectable, further studies must be performed to insure silicone's safety.

A patient with silicone gel breast implants, who experienced capsular contracture of the left breast that was treated by closed capsulotomy, sought medical attention because of numbness and pain in the left medial forearm and hand. Inflammatory masses subsequently developed in the left anterior axillary and antecubital regions.
