In May 1989 an open access endoscopy service for general practitioners (GPs) was started in the region of Eindhoven. In the four hospitals covering a population of 500,000 inhabitants, served by 200 GPs, uniform working agreements were made. We evaluated the endoscopies performed in 1990 and compared the total number of endoscopies with that of gastrointestinal X-rays. A total of 996 open access gastroscopies were performed. UNLABELLED: Daoyin-Tuna Qigong therapy was applied to 103 cases with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG). The average duration of disease was 7.8 years. Daoyin-Tuna Qigong exercises were done 4 times a day, 1 hour each time. 79 days made a course and no drug was given. 31 cases were checked with gastroscopy and biopsy, 30 cases with electrogastrogram and 34 cases with immunity detection before and after treatment course.

We present the case of a 57-year-old woman with metastatic colorectal cancer being treated with Bevacizumab and FOLFOX, who came to the emergency department with haematemesis. Gastroscopy showed a duodenal ulcer without active bleeding. Subsequently, he suffered haemodynamic instability and an Angio-CT scan revealed an aortoenteric fistula, requiring urgent surgery. Bevacizumab can cause rare complications such as this, and early detection is crucial for effective treatment.

Gastric anisakiasis was an incidental finding on gastroscopy of a 48-year-old man known to have AIDS. At that time the patient had been symptom-free, the test having been performed to check on an ulcerative Candida oesophagitis. The Anisakis larva was extracted through the gastroscope and there has been no recurrence. The history suggested a chronic course. The unusual absence of symptoms suggests that the immunodeficiency had influenced the pathogenesis of the parasitic disease.

The article analyzes results of the examination and surgical treatment of 24 patients with carcinoma of the gastric stump developing at different terms after resection of the stomach for gastroduodenal ulcers. Questions of pathogenesis, clinical picture and diagnosis of the disease are discussed. Special attention is called to low percentage of radical operations for gastric stump carcinoma. An important role of dispensary observation with the use of gastroscopy for patients subjected to resection of the stomach for peptic ulcers is emphasized.

To our knowledge, this is the first report of Prototheca sp. isolated from the digestive tract of a dolphin. A captive-born female bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) weighing 165 kg that was housed at Enoshima Aquarium presented with a slightly elevated body temperature and candida-like yeasts in stomach fluid and feces. Gastroscopy revealed cobblestone-like thickening of the mucosa with a few ulcers in the forestomach. Prototheca bovis was isolated from the biopsy specimen of the lesion.
