Feasibility and efficacy of menu planning combined with individual counselling to improve health outcomes and dietary adherence in people with type 2 diabetes: a pilot study.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to test the feasibility and efficacy of implementing a 4-week menu plan combined with individual counselling among people with type 2 diabetes. METHODS: A 12-week pilot study with a pretest and post-test design was conducted among 15 participants with type 2 diabetes. The menu plan incorporated the overall recommendations of the Canadian Diabetes Association nutrition therapy guidelines and considered factors such as the accessibility, availability and acceptability of foods. A survey of attitudes and practices of reproductive health and family planning services among private medical practitioners in four states of the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria.

BACKGROUND: Abortion is widespread in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria, with resulting high rates of morbidity and mortality. It is thought that the private sector provides the majority of abortion services in Nigeria as a result of the restrictive abortion law in the country. The oil-rich Niger-Delta region accounts for 90% of the country's resource, is economically active and has increased opportunities for sexual networking. METHOD: This study assays the attitudes of staff at family planning (FP) services and practices of reproductive health and FP services among private practitioners in

Evaluating the impact of female community health volunteer involvement in a postpartum family planning intervention in Nepal: A mixed-methods study at one-year post-intervention.

INTRODUCTION: This is a one-year post-intervention study following an initiative to provide orientation to female community health volunteers (FCHVs) on postpartum family planning in Nepal. In light of positive results in the earlier post-intervention study, this study was designed to provide a more long-term perspective on sustainability by assessing the effect at one-year post-intervention. METHODS: This mixed-methods study was conducted in January 2020 in Morang district, Nepal. We collected quantitative data from a knowledge assessment of FCHVs who had participated in the intervention on

Association between advance care planning combined with super-enhanced transitional care and outcomes of facility death and bed availability in a Japanese geriatric health services facility.

Objective: Advance care planning (ACP) is vital for long-term care. However, its operational effects remain unclear. We implemented "ACPSET", integrating ACP with super-enhanced transitional care (SET). Given the limited evidence on integrated care models, we hypothesized that ACPSET would improve the predictability of facility deaths, enable efficient bed use, and reduce monthly average number of vacant beds. This study evaluated ACP's impact on facility deaths and ACPSET-related bed availability. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we compared facility deaths between r

"Leave a Little Ray of Hope": Perspectives From Providers, Patients, and Caregivers on Palliative Care and Future Health Care Planning for Patients Ineligible for Kidney Transplantation.

RATIONALE & OBJECTIVE: Patients who are ineligible for transplant may benefit from the resources of palliative care (PC) and advance care planning. No studies have explored the appropriateness or timing of discussions of PC and planning for future medical needs at the transplant center with patients for whom transplant is not an option. We aimed to assess the perspectives of providers who refer and evaluate patients for kidney transplantation, transplant-ineligible patients, and their family caregivers on the potential role of the transplant center in incorporating PC and advance care planning

Key influences on the decision to initiate PrEP among adolescent girls and young women within routine maternal child health and family planning clinics in Western Kenya.

We sought to understand influences on PrEP uptake among Kenyan adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) whose decision on PrEP use was misaligned with their risk for HIV acquisition. In-depth interviews were conducted with 47 Kenyan HIV-negative AGYW aged 15-24 years who were offered PrEP during routine maternal and child health and family planning services. AGYW were sampled from two groups (1) declined PrEP and had ≥1 sexual partner(s) of unknown HIV status and (2) initiated PrEP and reported having one HIV-negative partner. AGYW with HIV-negative partners initiated PrEP due to known or suspe

Understanding physical exercise among individuals with substance use disorders using an integrated theoretical perspective of the health action process approach and theory of planned behavior.

INTRODUCTION: Physical exercise is considered a useful non-pharmacological adjunctive treatment for promoting recovery from substance use disorders (SUD). However, adherence to physical exercise treatments is low, and little is known about what factors are associated with the initiation and maintenance of physical exercise behaviors. The aim of this study was to explore the psychosocial factors underlying these behaviors in individuals with SUD using an integrated theoretical model based on the health action process approach (HAPA) and the theory of planned behavior (TPB). METHODS: A total of

"It's Finding the Time to Prioritize Ourselves": Using the Theory of Planned Behavior to Explore Young Black Women's Attitudes, Norms, and Beliefs Toward Mental Health Care.

Across the United States, Black women are likely to have unmet mental health needs, with greater personal, social, and structural barriers to mental health treatment compared to other groups. The Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) may help to conceptualize young Black women’s mental health beliefs and help-seeking behaviors. The current study aimed to use the TPB framework and a concurrent mixed methods approach to explore behavioral, normative, and control beliefs toward seeking mental health care among a sample of young Black women from community settings. The sample consisted of 33 Black wome

An application of a modified theory of planned behavior model to investigate adolescents' job safety knowledge, norms, attitude and intention to enact workplace safety and health skills.

INTRODUCTION: For many reasons, including a lack of adequate safety training and education, U.S. adolescents experience a higher rate of job-related injury compared to adult workers. Widely used social-psychological theories in public health research and practice, such as the theory of planned behavior, may provide guidance for developing and evaluating school-based interventions to prepare adolescents for workplace hazards and risks. METHOD: Using a structural equation modeling approach, the current study explores whether a modified theory of planned behavior model provides insight on 1,748
