A case of antenatally diagnosed thanatophoric dysplasia is described. Other syndromes accompanied by chondrodysplastic tetramicromelia were excluded and diagnosis was based on the narrow thorax, secondary pulmonary hypoplasia and macrocephaly detected by ultrasound and on radiological findings of disturbed bone formation. At the mother's request labour was induced and radiological, anatomic and histological examination of the newborn confirmed the prenatal diagnosis. BACKGROUND: Congenital telangiectatic erythema (CTE), also known as Bloom syndrome, is a rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by below-average height, a narrow face, a red skin rash occurring on sun-exposed areas of the body, and an increased risk of cancer. A field-collected strain (HF) of Plutella xylostella (L.) showed 420-fold resistance to fipronil compared with a susceptible laboratory strain (Roth). The HF-R strain, derived from the HF strain by 25 generations of successive selection with fipronil in the laboratory, developed 2,200-fold resistance to fipronil relative to the Roth strain.
