INTRODUCTION: Traumatic dislocation of the hip with ipsilateral fracture neck femur is a rare injury because of the different mechanism of both these injuries. The management of such injuries is a challenge as the chances of nonunion and avascular necrosis of femoral head are very high with fixation methods. We report a case of obturator dislocation of the hip with ipsilateral fracture neck of the femur which was treated with uncemented total hip replacement.
CASE REPORT: A 32-year-old male sustained obturator dislocation with ipsilateral fracture neck femur following road traffic accident. A

BACKGROUND: Chondral injuries are commonly related to poor clinical outcome, but recent data showed some improvements in function and pain after hip arthroscopy. Cell-based therapies represent an appealing alternative strategy for cartilage regeneration, and interesting results have been recently reported after intra-articular injections of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). The results of hip arthroscopy for femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) and intra-articular injections of autologous expanded bone marrow - MSCs (BM-MSCs) are reported in this retrospective study.

Hip firearm injuries are rare injuries that could lead to serious complications, such as posttraumatic hip arthritis and coloarticular fistula. We report a case of a 25-year-old male who sustained a pelvic injury caused by a single bullet which led to a bilateral acetabular fracture, concomitant with a colon injury treated on an emergency basis by a diverting colostomy; acetabular fractures were treated conservatively by traction. After the patient recovered from the abdominal injury, he was presented with bilateral hip pain and limited motion; plain radiographs showed bilateral hip arthritis

RATIONALE: Cartilage injuries of the femoral head may occur following hip dislocation. As a rare injury, controversy persists regarding ideal treatment of damaged femoral head cartilage. Here we report the case of a patient who developed a large cartilage injury to the femoral head following anterior hip dislocation for which autologous osteochondral mosaicplasty with a graft harvested from the ipsilateral femoral head achieved a satisfactory outcome.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 62-year-old man developed a right hip dislocation after a fall from a 5-m height and was referred to our institution.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of the study was to establish whether a dedicated hip fracture unit, geographically separate from the local major trauma centre, could improve clinical outcomes for patients sustaining proximal femoral fragility fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was a retrospective case series, using data collected from Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust's submissions to the National Hip Fracture Database between 1 April 2011 and 16 September 2016. The outcomes measured were mortality, length of hospital stay, time from admission to surgical intervention and re

Low range femoral torsion, termed "lateral shaft torsion," has been associated with greater range of hip external rotation and turnout in dancers. It is also hypothesized that achieving greater turnout at the hip minimizes torsion at the knee, shank, ankle, and foot, and consequently reduces incidence of lower limb injuries. The primary aims of this study were to investigate: 1. differences in range of femoral shaft torsion between dancers with and without lower limb injuries; and 2. the relationship between femoral shaft torsion, hip external rotation range, and turnout. A secondary aim was t

BACKGROUND: There is a large population of young athletes who participate in gymnastics, and the prevention of injury in junior athletes is considered important. However, few studies have prospectively investigated the relationship between physical factors and the occurrence of injury.
PURPOSE: To investigate the physical characteristics that are factors in the injury occurrence in elementary and junior high school gymnasts.
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective observational study.
METHODS: A total of 36 healthy young gymnasts (at national competition level) were enrolled in the study. Once a week for

Limited hip extension mobility has been proposed as a possible cause of both increased anterior pelvic tilt and subsequent exaggerated lumbar lordosis during walking and running. The purpose of the present study was to examine the coordinated sagittal plane kinematic patterns of the hip and pelvis during walking and running in a substantial group of adult recreational runners. The kinematics of 73 healthy adult runners (age: 34+/-11years) were examined on an instrumented treadmill at self-selected walking and running speeds using a three-dimensional motion capture system. Although stride lengt

CASE: A healthy 41-year-old man presented after a motorcycle collision resulting in polytrauma and underwent hip arthroscopy for removal of loose bodies after initial stabilization of pelvic, acetabular, and ipsilateral ankle fractures. Given these injuries, a novel hip distraction technique with a combination of postless traction and skeletal traction was used.
CONCLUSION: Specific considerations for hip arthroscopy with concomitant acetabular fracture include alternate techniques for joint distraction, maintenance of low pump pressures, and technical pearls for clearing hemarthrosis. Orthop

Anterior hip dislocations and posterior hip dislocations are injuries that commonly result from high-energy trauma. Different mechanisms of injury and forces are typically required for anterior and posterior hip dislocations. We present the case of a patient who sustained an injury that initially resulted in an anterior hip dislocation. After reduction and without experiencing further significant trauma, the patient dislocated posteriorly while being transferred from a stretcher to a table in radiology some 14 hours later. To our knowledge, there have been no such presentations in the literatu

Bilateral hip dislocation is a rare injury and asymmetrical hip dislocations are even very rare entities. We are reporting two cases of bilateral asymmetrical hip dislocations with associated acetabulum fractures. Mechanism of injury in first case was fall from height and in other case road traffic accident. Associated injuries were midshaft femur fracture and sciatic nerve (Peroneal part). Anterior hip dislocation in both cases is reduced closely but posterior hip dislocation in both cases relocated openly due to ipsilateral femur fracture in first case and unstable hip in second case. BACKGROUND: Traumatic, posterior hip dislocations in the pediatric population are typically managed by closed reduction to achieve a concentric hip joint. The presence of an acetabular "fleck" sign, despite concentric reduction, has been shown to signify significant hip pathology. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the outcomes of open labral repair through a surgical hip dislocation (SHD) in a consecutive series of patients with an acetabular "fleck" sign associated with a traumatic hip dislocation/subluxation.
METHODS: A retrospective review of patients between 2008 and 2022 who pres

OBJECTIVE: Prevalence of hip osteoarthritis (OA) is rarely reported in young populations (e.g., military). We will report the prevalence of hip OA in a young military cohort and investigate the relationship between injury and progression/incidence.
DESIGN: ADVANCE is a prospective cohort study comparing physical and psychosocial outcomes in 1145 men who served in Afghanistan including 579 men with combat injury (Exposed) who were frequency-matched to 566 controls (Unexposed). The Exposed group was sub-divided into hip injured (Exp-H), lower limb amputation (Exp-A) and other (Exp-NA). Kellgren

Hip hemiarthroplasty is a commonly performed orthopedic surgery, used to treat proximal femur fractures in the elderly population. Although hip hemiarthroplasty is frequently successful in addressing these injuries, complications can occur. Commonly seen complications include dislocation, periprosthetic fracture, acetabular erosion, and leg-length inequality. Less frequently seen complications include neurovascular injury and capsular interposition. This article presents a comprehensive review of the complications associated with the management of hip hemiarthroplasty. [Orthopedics. 2023;46(4)

Fractures of the femoral head combined with a dislocation of the hip are rare injuries. In the period from 1975 to 1993 nine of our 231 operatively treated patients who had a hip injury sustained a Pipkin fracture. According to the history of our patients and the results of the last 18 years we discuss the possibilities of diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of the fracture of the femoral head with dislocation of the hip.

ABSTRACT: Anterior hip dislocation is common in younger adults and is the result of severe, high energy trauma such as high-velocity motor vehicle accidents or falls from great heights. A similar mechanism of injury would cause a femur neck fracture in older patients. Of these, open anterior hip dislocations are extremely rare and are usually associated with other soft tissue and bony injuries. We report a case of an open anterior hip dislocation with normal neurovascular status in a third world setting.

A traumatic dislocation of the hip joint associated with an ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture is a rare injury resulting from severe trauma. Initially the dislocated hip joint is often unrecognized and consequently reduction is delayed. Early diagnosis and reduction of the hip joint improves the functional prognosis. The maximum functional recovery is possible only with greater awareness of this combined injury. Examination of the hip joints by clinical roentgenography in the critically injured patient, especially those with head injuries, or physical signs masked by extremity swelling, shoul

BACKGROUND: Acute traumatic injuries of the triradiate cartilage are very rare in children and usually result from high-energy trauma associated with other pelvic injuries. Only two sports-related cases of complete injuries of the triradiate cartilage have been reported to date.
CASE PRESENTATION: We herein describe the first case of a partial injury of the triradiate cartilage in a 14-year-old athlete. The patient presented with sudden-onset hip pain and moderate functional impairment. The fracture was confined to the ilioischial synchondrosis, while the remaining triradiate cartilage and th
