Ropeginterferon α-2b is a mono-PEGylated proline-interferon for the treatment of polycythemia vera. This drug is used biweekly with a starting dose of 100 μg (50 μg if patients receiving hydroxyurea) and 50 μg increments up to a maximum dose of 500 μg. Increasing evidence indicates that patients can tolerate higher starting doses of ropeginterferon α-2b. This phase II trial utilizes 250 μg as the starting dose, 350 μg at week 2 and 500 μg at week 4 as the target dose. Doses can be adjusted according to tolerability. In vitro synergistic antiviral effect of interferon alpha-2b in combination with unithiol (an antioxidant) on diverse variants of Herpes simplex, including the clinical acyclovir-resistant isolates, was demonstrated. A 42-year-old woman with chronic hepatitis C has visited our hospital since October 2003. Liver biopsy revealed chronic hepatitis (A1/F1) . Therapy was initiated with interferon (IFN) alpha-2b and ribavirin in February 2004. Two months later, the patient developed left facial weakness. The oral use of human recombinant interferonalpha-2b at 1,000 IU/ml/day appeared to provide only a transient benefit as compared with placebo for management of idiopathic recurrent superficial pyoderma in dogs. Rosacea fulminans is characterized by the sudden onset of large, coalescing nodules and draining sinuses on the face. A few reports have linked medications to this condition, but none have described the onset of rosacea fulminans with pegylated interferon or ribavirin therapy.
