An Unusual Presentation of Lichen Planus.

Lichen planus is a chronic papulosquamous eruption of the skin, scalp, nails, and mucous membranes. "Pruritic, purple, polygonal, planar, papules, plaques" are the traditional six "P's" of lichen planus. We describe an unusual case of lichen planus presenting as cellulitis. A 64-year-old lady with a past medical history of pyoderma gangrenosum, inclusion body myositis, and chronic kidney disease presented with a two-week history of swelling, erythema, tenderness, hyperkeratotic plaques, and blisters on the medial aspect of both thighs. She had a previous history of pyoderma gangrenosum exacerb

Lichen aureus with pseudolymphomatous infiltrate.

Lichen aureus is a variant of pigmented purpuric dermatoses. The usual histopathology of lichen aureus is characterized by a subepidermal dense, band-like lymphocytic infiltrate, extravasated erythrocytes, and hemosiderin deposits. We report three patients with lichen aureus on the extremities with similar clinical, dermoscopic, and histopathological findings characterized by a dense band-like relatively deep dermal infiltrate accompanied by extravasation of erythrocytes and hemosiderin deposits occasioning a resemblance to a lymphoproliferative disorder.

Lichen Planus Due to Hirudotherapy.

Lichen planus is a traumatic (koebner positive), chronic, inflammatory and autoimmune disease affecting the oral and genital mucosa, scalp and nails. The Food and Drug Administration approved the use of medical leeches for therapeutic purposes (hirudotherapy) in 2004 to ensure flap nutrition in plastic surgery. A 34-year-old male patient was admitted to our dermatology outpatient clinic with a swollen, itchy and purple-coloured rash on legs and back for a month, and white and reticulated plaques in the mouth. It was learned that a week earlier, eight leeches was applied to both knees and ankle

Nivolumab-induced lichen planus.

INTRODUCTION: Renal cell carcinomas account for 90% of all malignant neoplasms of the kidney. The most common types of renal cancer in adults are clear cell and papillary renal cell carcinoma; sporadic cases of renal carcinomas containing chromosomal translocations are rare, more usually occurring in children and young adults. Nivolumab (a fully human immunoglobulin G4 PD-1 checkpoint inhibitor antibody) has received the Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of metastatic renal cell carcinoma in patients who have received prior antiangiogenic therapy. Skin reactions are the m

Autoimmunity in lichen planopilaris patients.

UNLABELLED: Lichen planopilaris (LPP) is a rare, scarring form of alopecia with lymphocytic pattern. Due to the destruction of epithelial hair follicle stem cells in the bulge, it represents an irreversible condition. Antinuclear antibodies have been used for decades as diagnostic biomarkers of several rheumatological diseases. AIM: The aim of study was to determine the frequency of anti-nuclear antibodies positivity and subsequently analyze the presence of specific antibodies in LPP patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 57 patients (aged 28-79, female 96%) were included in the study. Patients wi

Reticular Oral Lichen Planus.

Reticular oral lichen planus is a common clinical finding, often found incidentally on routine oral examination. Patients rarely complain of symptoms and the condition does not require treatment, as a result, biopsies and ancillary laboratory evaluation are seldom performed. We present a case of reticular oral lichen planus with a classic clinical presentation and characteristic histologic findings.

MicroRNAs in cutaneous lichen planus.

Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic, inflammatory, papulosquamous, autoimmune disease. The pathogenesis of LP appears to be complex, with interactions between genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short RNAs encoded in both protein coding and noncoding areas of the genome, and have been found to be involved in the pathogenesis of some inflammatory skin diseases. The aim of this study was to map the levels of miRNA (miR-)-203 and miR-125b in cutaneous LP to evaluate their possible role in the pathogenesis of the disease. In total, 40 patients with classic cutaneous LP

Alitretinoin treatment of lichen amyloidosis.

Lichen amyloidosis (LA) is characterized by the deposition of amyloid that may respond to chronic scratching that may be secondary to atopic dermatitis, stasis dermatitis, or interface dermatitis. Despite the development of several therapeutic strategies, including topical steroids, oral antihistamines, cyclosporine, and retinoids, an effective treatment for LA has not been established. A 49-year-old woman who has been treated irregularly for atopic dermatitis for 7 years presented with localized brownish papules on the left forearm and right elbow. They developed 3 months prior and were becom

Lichen sclerosus and risk of cancer.

Malignant potential of lichen sclerosus (LS) has been suspected, but evidence is sparse. We used the population-based Finnish Cancer Registry data to further study this connection. We identified all women with the diagnosis of LS (n = 7,616) listed in the Finnish Hospital Discharge Registry from 1970 to 2012. The cohort was followed through the Finnish Cancer Registry for subsequent cancer diagnoses until 2014. Standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) were calculated for different cancers by dividing the observed numbers of cancers by expected ones. The expected numbers were based on national canc
