BACKGROUND: Implementing shared decision-making in oncology practice is often limited, particularly integrating the patient's context into decision-making. To improve this, we conducted a quality improvement project, CONtext. CONtext attempts to accomplish this by: (1) Integrating the patient's context into shared decision-making during consultation with the medical oncologist; (2) Actively involving the GP and case manager (a specialized oncology nurse), who often have knowledge about the patient's context, and; (3) Giving the person with advanced cancer a time-out period of up to 2 weeks to

BACKGROUND: The best care and management of patients in persistent vegetative state (PVS) has been the subject of sustained moral and legal debate for a number of years. However, the views of specialist doctors in Belgium involved in the care for patients in PVS are largely unknown.
METHODS: A postal questionnaire was sent to 403 members of Belgian Societies of Neurosurgeons, Neurologists and Rehabilitation Doctors. Their views were sought on various aspects of the management and care of PVS, focusing on the issue of the appropriateness of non-treatment and the withdrawal of artificial feedin

This is the report of a newborn girl who was treated by "trial of life" before surgical repair of her left-sided diaphragmatic hernia. Surgery was performed 60 hours after birth, at which time she was found to have an organo-axial volvulus of the stomach. Her postoperative course was complicated by a jejunal perforation on the fourth postoperative day, necessitating another laparotomy.

INTRODUCTION: Decision making in pediatric end-of-life care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions (LLC/LTCs) is ethically complex and shaped by cultural values and health care systems. Although shared decision making has been increasingly emphasized, comparative evidence on how communication and relationships influence pediatric end-of-life decision making across cultural contexts remains limited. This scoping review compared communication and interpersonal relationships among health care professionals (HCPs), parents, and children in the United Kingdom and Japan.

As the global cancer burden rises, adults with advanced cancer face significant physical and psychosocial symptoms requiring early integration of palliative and supportive care. Nurses in oncology, emergency, and community settings are central to symptom assessment, care coordination, communication, and advance care planning, yet their roles in early integration remain underexplored. This scoping review mapped nursing contributions to early palliative and supportive care for adults with advanced cancer and described related patient, caregiver, and system outcomes. BackgroundDementia is a group of chronic diseases characterised by cognitive impairment that progressively disrupts daily functioning and requires increasing levels of healthcare, social support, and long-term care. Support for people with dementia can be provided by formal support systems although most of the care process relies upon informal care givers. Despite the availability of formal support systems and healthcare workers, the utilization of dementia care services remains suboptimal. Factors such as non-compliance, lack of awareness, and poor care coordination contribute to this issue.

Aging often leads to a decline in cognitive abilities and independence, making it difficult to remain at home and increasing isolation. Gerontology care assistants, trained and integrated into specialized Alzheimer's teams, offer personalized support combining cognitive stimulation, relational support, and motor assistance. This multidisciplinary approach ensures coordinated care, preventing loss of independence and improving the quality of life for patients and their loved ones.

BACKGROUND: High-risk percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI), refractory cardiogenic shock and in-lab cardiac arrest are all associated with significant mortality. Percutaneous left ventricular assist devices (pLVAD) and CPS (cardiopulmonary support) have been used to support such patients. However, the extent to which the use of these devices can improve outcomes in this patient subset is not known.
METHODS: We evaluated clinical features, efficacy and safety outcomes in a retrospective cohort of 39 patients, treated either with pLVAD or CPS for support of high-risk PCI, cardiogenic shock

Background: Although palliative care is expanding globally for patients with serious illness, Turkey has not had widespread integration of early concurrent oncology palliative care. Hence, adapting and testing models of concurrent oncology palliative care for Turkish patients is imperative. Furthermore, it is critical that these care models also address the needs of family caregivers. Objective: To assess needs and elicit suggestions that would inform the adaptation of the ENABLE (Educate, Nurture, Advise, Before Life Ends) evidence-based early palliative care model for Turkish family caregive

BACKGROUND: Health system strengthening is crucial to improving infant and child health outcomes in low-resource countries. While the knowledge related to improving newborn and child survival has advanced remarkably over the past few decades, many healthcare systems in such settings remain unable to effectively deliver pediatric advance life support management. With the introduction of the Emergency Triage, Assessment and Treatment plus Admission care (ETAT+)-a locally adapted pediatric advanced life support management program-in Rwandan district hospitals, we undertook this study to assess th

BACKGROUND: Peer support has been extensively studied in specific areas of community-based primary care such as mental health, substance use, HIV, homelessness, and Indigenous health. These programs are often built on the assumption that peers must share similar social identities or lived experiences of disease to be effective. However, it remains unclear how peers can be integrated in general primary care setting that serves people with a diversity of health conditions and social backgrounds.
METHODS: A participatory qualitative study was conducted between 2020 and 2022 to explore the feasib

BACKGROUND: Despite evidence that structured, multidisciplinary care for people with advanced heart failure (AHF) significantly enhances patients' quality of life, critical questions remain regarding how such care should be optimally designed. To improve the quality of life for people with AHF, healthcare professionals must deepen their understanding of what these patients genuinely need and how best to meet them in their illness trajectory.
AIM: To describe patients' experience of living with advanced heart failure in Sweden.
METHODS: Fifteen patients with AHF from a medium-sized hospital i

This cross-sectional study identified variables associated with continuity of care among 327 patients with mental disorders receiving services from a variety of professionals in different Quebec settings. Based on the Andersen's Behavioral Model, a linear regression analysis was performed. Attention deficit and mood disorders were negatively associated with continuity of care, while substance use disorders and quality of life revealed positive associations. Consulting a psychologist was linked to weaker continuity of care whereas visiting a drug rehabilitation center, social support, and satis

BACKGROUND: Children eligible for palliative care represent a highly diverse population, making comprehensive, family-centered approaches essential. As many families value being at home and maintaining their daily activities and routines, healthcare services need to be tailored to each family's unique circumstances. Health technology offers promising support for home-based pediatric palliative care and has been suggested to enhance communication, coordination, and continuity of care. Despite growing interest, a significant research gap regarding the systematic integration of health technology
