In patients with chronic wrist pain of more than 6 months duration, arthroscopy may reveal fraying of the ulno-triquetral and ulno-lunate ligaments. This can be a sign of longstanding triquetrolunate dissociation. We present a prospective study in which frayed ulno-triquetral (UT) and ulno-lunate (UL) ligaments were sought on wrist arthroscopy and correlated with longstanding triquetro-lunate (TL) rupture.

After an inadequate conservative treatment of III-grade sprain of the ankle combined with the rupture of ligaments, these heal in prolongation which result in the chronic instability of the ankle joint. After the evaluation of the anamnesis and the objective examination the diagnosis is specified by comparative forced X-ray images in both projections. To substitute insufficient fibular ligaments we use a modification of the Weber method. We perform tenodesis of m. peronaeus brevis. The tendon is led through the bone channel above the apex of the lateral maleolus and its proximal end is fixed i…

The ulnocarpal ligament complex (UCLC), consisting of the ulnotriquetral, ulnolunate, and ulnocapitate ligaments, plays a pivotal role in maintaining ulnocarpal joint stability and is closely linked to the palmar radioulnar ligament (PRUL), preventing dorsal ulnar translation. Often, tears in the PRUL and UCLC coincide with lunotriquetral interosseous ligament (LTIL) tears as the result of their strong anatomical connections. Biomechanical studies have demonstrated that ulnar-shortening osteotomy enhances stability in the distal radioulnar joint, lunotriquetral joint, and UCLC by tightening th…

PURPOSE: Ankle fracture combined with deltoid ligament (DL) injury results in decreased stability of ankle mortise, reduced contact surface between tibial and talus, increased local stress, and increased postoperative complications. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the postoperative effects of repairing ligaments in ankle fractures with DL rupture.
METHODS: According to the steps of the Cochrane systematic review, the related literatures from PubMed, Embase and the Cochrane Library Databases were retrieved as of September 1, 2021, and all relevant randomized controlled trials…

BACKGROUND: While most medial-sided knee injuries can be managed conservatively, high-grade injuries of the posteromedial corner have been reported to have less than optimal outcomes with conservative approaches, resulting in residual valgus and rotational instability. Consensus among experts postulates that treatment should be based on reconstructing both the superficial medial collateral ligament (sMCL) and the posterior oblique ligament (POL). We present a modified technique of a tibial-sling anatomic MCL reconstruction with a POL limb.
INDICATIONS: High-grade injuries of the posteromedial

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of the interosseous ligament and selected antebrachiocarpal ligaments on the internal rotation of the radius relative to the ulna, during carpal extension.
STUDY DESIGN: Cadaveric study.
SAMPLE POPULATION: Twenty-four cadaveric canine forelimbs.
METHODS: Twenty-four forelimbs were disarticulated at the elbow joint and the antebrachia were prepared for testing. The forelimbs were divided to 6 groups, defined by the order in which ligaments were transected. All specimens were tested intact and after transecting each of the ligaments with the order defined by …

INTRODUCTION: The simultaneous rupture of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and patellar ligament (PL) is an infrequent condition. Each isolated injury has surgical techniques and rehabilitation protocols that differ widely among each other. Nonetheless, there is no established physical rehabilitation approach when both injuries are associated.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this report is to describe the rehabilitation and the outcomes obtained in the postoperative period of simultaneous rupture of ACL and PL and the follow-up period.
CASE REPORT: A 21-year-old male patient suffered the rupture of AC

OBJECTIVES: To describe the pathological appearance of the anterolateral ligament (ALL) on US and MRI in knees with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear.
METHODS: This prospective study included 30 patients who had a suspected acute ACL tear. Their injured and contralateral knees were evaluated with radiography, US and MRI. Two radiologists evaluated the ALL on the MRI and US examinations. Agreement between these examiners' findings was evaluated with Cohen's kappa.
RESULTS: On US examination, the ALL was found to be injured in 63% of cases (19/30; k = 0.93). The enthesis was found to be

Medial collateral ligament of the knee is an important coronal stabiliser and often injured in isolation or as combination of injuries. The article reports a case of incarcerated medial collateral ligament (MCL) injury in combination with anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in 20 year old male who presented to us 4 weeks after injury. Clinical examination and MRI was correlated to complete ACL tear with torn distal MCL and incarceration into the joint. Patient was taken up for ACL hamstring graft reconstruction with mini-arthrotomy and repair of the torn MCL. Patient was followed up with d

BACKGROUND: Injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee is common. Following complete rupture of the ACL, insufficient re-vascularization of the ligament prevents it from healing completely, creating a need for reconstruction. A variety of grafts are available for use in ACL reconstruction surgery, including synthetic grafts. Over the last two decades new types of synthetic ligaments have been developed. One of these synthetic ligaments, the Ligament Advanced Reinforcement System (LARS), has recently gained popularity. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the current b…

OBJECTIVE: Anatomic reconstruction is the treatment of choice for lateral ankle ligament instability. A similar technique has recently been described for stabilisation of a chronic unstable calcaneocuboid joint as an alternative to the previously proposed tenodesis and arthrodesis procedures.
METHODS: Five consecutive young females experiencing recurrent giving way of six calcaneocuboid joints were treated operatively during a 4 year period using anatomic ligament repair reinforced by a periosteal flap. Results were compared to five patients who underwent anatomic lateral ankle ligament repai

An 86-year-old woman underwent 4 revisions of hip arthroplasty and showed good position of both acetabular and femoral components. This was confirmed by roentgenographic measurements in the prone position. However, poor anterior acetabular covering after posterior inclination of the pelvis associated with lumbar kyphosis was observed in the standing position. Therefore, we reconstructed the iliofemoral ligament using a Leeds-Keio ligament to prevent anterior dislocation. At the 12-month follow-up evaluation, hip stability was confirmed, and the hip showed no further dislocation.

We reviewed 95 ankles at an average of 9 years after an "activo-passive" operation performed for chronic lateral instability. All the patients had suffered recurrent ankle sprain or instability, with pain in 67 patients. Ten ankles showed a subtalar injury at operation. Degenerative changes were noted in 11 ankle joints. On review, 81 ankles (85%) were stable. The 14 cases with persistent instability had developed the problem one to five years after operation. Two cases presented with limitation in mobility. Osteoarthritis, found in 15 ankles, was severe in only two, and had been present on pr

In a prospective clinical study on 32 patients with Trevira ligament implants arthroscopic and histological findings were used to assess the articular effects of the synthetic ligament. In group 1 of patients with intact Trevira ligament no changes associated with foreign-body reactions were seen. In group 2 with abrased or frayed synthetic ligaments generalised foreign-body reactions in the suprapatellar recess as well as perivascular, round-cell infiltrates were seen in four out of six patients; four of the six cases also showed fibrotic signs indicative of prearthrotic changes. In group 3 w…
