Brugian filariasis prevalent mostly in South-East Asian countries including India contributes to a small but significant proportion of the socioeconomic burden due to lymphatic filariasis. Along with bancroftian filariasis, brugian filariasis has been targeted for elimination globally. The lack of a reliable daytime diagnostic test has been seen as an important barrier to the successful implementation and monitoring of elimination programmes in brugia endemic areas. We evaluated an anti-BmRI-IgG4 antibody test namely, 'Brugia Rapid' in a large study meant to understand the clinical and patholo

Klippel-Trénaunay syndrome is a rare congenital disorder affecting the vascular and lymphatic systems. The clinical presentation can vary widely, but the syndrome is broadly characterised by capillary, venous and lymphatic malformations as well as limb hypertrophy. We present the case of a 35-year-old parturient who underwent an emergency caesarean section for suspected fetal distress, and describe the anaesthetic management during the peripartum period. Only a small number of similar cases have been described, and the multisystem nature of the condition presents several challenges to both the

A 4-year-old intact male mixed-breed dog was presented with vomiting and severe depression of 6-day duration after being struck by a car 2 weeks before presentation. Clinical examination revealed hypothermia, respiratory difficulty, jaundice, and a bicavitary (pleural and peritoneal) effusion. Hematological and biochemical abnormalities included neutrophilic leukocytosis, increased total bilirubin concentration, and increased serum lipase activity. Biochemical and cytological evaluation of both abdominal and thoracic fluids were suggestive of bilious effusions. During celiotomy, a rupture of t

The authors report two cases of exsudative enteropathy characterised by the existence of oedema of the lower limbs associated with hypoproteinemia and marked lymphopenia with disturbances of the P.V.P. test. In both cases lymphography demonstrated major abnormalities with obvious obstruction in one case, and signs of slowing of lymph flow with appearances of dysplasia in the other. Surgery permitted us in one case, to discover a calcified lymph node probably due to tuberculosis. The etiology of these cases is discussed and seems to be mainly related to abnormalities of the lymphatic system. A

Cystic lymphangioma is a common benign tumor caused by lymphatic malformation. The scrotum is a very rare site for this tumor and only few cases have been reported in the literature. We herewith present a rare case of cystic lymphangioma of the scrotum in an ado-lescent who presented with an incidental scrotal swelling with no other abnormality, where the diagnosis was suspected on scrotal ultrasonography.

Cystic lymphangiomas (CLs) are benign congenital lymphatic malformations that are thought to represent developmental abnormalities rather than true neoplasms. The head and neck region is the most common site of occurrence, although CLs can be present elsewhere in the body including the axilla, mediastinum, groin, and retroperitoneum. More than 80% of CLs present before the age of two. Occurrence in adults is rare with only a few cases reported in the literature. We describe five cases of cervical CLs in adults and discuss imaging modalities used for diagnostics, clinicopathologic features, and

This is the case of 55 year-old man, in whom Hodgkin's disease with a slight enlargement of lymphatic glands symptoms of the myasthenic syndrome and systemic vasculitis have been found. The patient's bad condition was caused by weakness and fatigability of muscular power, haemorrhagic gastritis and nephrotic syndrome. The patient was treated according to the schema of MOPP/ABV (hybrid). By now, three and a half year since the moment of treatment cessation, the patient has remained in remission. Any abnormalities have been found in electromyography, laboratory and imaging diagnostics.

Five patients with heavy proteinuria and nonparasitic chyluria due to congenital abnormalities of the lymphatic system are described. Renal biopsies confirmed the clinical suspicion of an underlying glomerulonephritis. The coexistence of glomerulonephritis and chyluria in these patients was thought coincidental. Tests of value in detecting a concomitant glomerulonephritis in these patients with chyluria include urinary RBC morphology, quantitation of 24-hour urinary protein, and immunoelectrophoresis of serum and urinary proteins. Contrary to previous reports, the present study suggests that c

Focal enlargements of the uterus are palpable through the rectal wall and have various aetiology. Aspects of their diagnosis, possible pathogenesis, significance and treatment are presented. Lymphatic lacunae appear to be quite common in older mares and may occasionally give rise to large endometrial cyst, but more frequently cause widespread change throughout the uterine horns. Three unusual ovarian abnormalities are presented, a large, oestrogen-producing granulosa cell tumour, an oestrogen-producing large follicle in a 4-month-old filly, and an ectopic progesterone-producing adrenal structu

Complex lymphatic anomalies (CLAs) are rare vascular anomalies characterized by abnormal proliferation of lymphatic and blood vessels, often resulting in multisystem involvement with heterogeneous clinical manifestations. We present 3 patients with CLAs exhibiting overlapping features of lower limb lymphedema and intra-abdominal vascular malformations, a phenotypic combination infrequently described in literature. Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) analysis in 2 cases detected somatic mutations at significantly higher variant allele frequencies compared to population databases, and mutant genes tha

BACKGROUND: Lymphangioma of the mesentery is a rare benign condition. Lymphangioma usually occurs in children during first few years of life most likely because of congenital abnormality of the lymphatic system. It may also be caused by trauma, lymphatic obstruction, surgery, inflammatory process, or radiotherapy. Lymphangioma of the mesentery represents less than 1% of all lymphangiomas and about 70% of abdominal lymphangiomas.
CASE PRESENTATION: We report the case of the 42-year-old woman who was diagnosed with the lymphangioma. Laparotomy was performed. A cystic lymph-filled tumor of about

BACKGROUND: Congenital pulmonary lymphangiectasis (CPL) characterized by dilatation of pulmonary lymphatic vessels occurs as a congenital anomaly. With poor prognosis, neonatal presentation of bilateral CPL is associated with the severe compromise of pulmonary gas exchange and high mortality.
METHODS: A male infant born at 39 weeks of gestation was found to have CPL. Cyanosis and cardiac arrest occurred a few minutes after birth, and the symptoms remained after artificial ventilation. The infant died of hypoxemic cardiac failure 45 minutes after birth. Autopsy showed neither pleural effusion

We study two authentic cases of protein-losing enteropathy, the diagnosis of which was facilitated using Given M2A videocapsule endoscopy. The first case corresponded to a primary intestinal lymphangiectasia confirmed by jejunum biopsies and the second one to a protein-losing enteropathy with lymphatic abnormalities secondary to a chronic constrictive pericarditis. In the first case, the mucosa of jejunum presented with a diffuse oedematous aspect, whitish villi, white curved lines probably related to submucosal dilated lymphatics and lacteal juice. In the second case, capsule endoscopy showed…

Microcephalic osteodysplastic primordial dwarfism (MOPD) is defined as a syndrome presenting with intrauterine and postnatal growth retardation, typical facial appearance, skeletal dysplasia and brain abnormalities. Autosomal-recessive inheritance is suspected. Sharing clinical manifestations, the former type III has been accepted to be the same entity as type I. We present the case of a male infant with MOPD I and micrencephaly with simplified gyral pattern to a degree defining it as microlissencephaly (MLIS). The brain abnormalities in MOPD I have not yet been classified. Reviewing the liter

BACKGROUND: Axillary reverse mapping (ARM) aims to preserve upper limb lymphatic drainage during breast cancer surgery to reduce lymphedema risk, but the metastatic potential of ARM lymph nodes and its preoperative predictors remain unclear.
METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a development cohort of 142 breast cancer patients, with an independent temporal validation cohort of 54 consecutive patients. Indocyanine green and methylene blue were used to map upper limb and breast lymphatic drainage, respectively. Identified ARM lymph nodes were preserved and pathologically examined

BACKGROUND: Gastric cancer rarely metastasizes to the gallbladder. Furthermore, there has never been a case report of simultaneous gallbladder metastasis from residual gastric cancer. Here, we report a case of synchronous gallbladder metastasis originating from a residual gastric cancer.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 67-year-old man underwent a follow-up upper endoscopy 18 months after a partial gastrectomy for gastric cancer; an ulcerative lesion was found in the remnant stomach at the gastrojejunal anastomosis. A biopsy revealed gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC). A full-body examination reve

INTRODUCTION: Lymphoedema-distichiasis syndrome (LD) (OMIM 153400) is a rare, primary lymphoedema of pubertal onset, associated with distichiasis. Causative mutations have now been described in FOXC2, a forkhead transcription factor gene. Numerous clinical associations have been reported with this condition, including congenital heart disease, ptosis, varicose veins, cleft palate, and spinal extradural cysts.
SUBJECTS: We report clinical findings in 74 affected subjects from 18 families and six isolated cases. All of them were shown to have mutations in FOXC2 with the exception of one family

Chylous ascites (CA) is an uncommon form of ascites resulting from disruption or obstruction of the lymphatic system. Although cirrhosis and malignancy account for many cases in Western countries, management can be particularly challenging when the underlying etiology remains uncertain. We present the case of a 57-year-old man with chronic CA, longstanding unilateral right-sided lymphedema reportedly present since birth, and a prolonged clinical course spanning several years. Despite conservative management with diuretics, dietary modification, and repeated therapeutic paracenteses, the patien

Meningeal lymphatic vessels (mLVs), located around the dural sinuses, are considered significant participants in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) circulation. Meningeal lymphatic vessels not only drain fluids and metabolic waste from the brain into deep cervical lymph nodes (dCLNs) but also transport immune cells from the brain to dCLNs, thus regulating the interaction between the central and peripheral immune systems. These vessels play a crucial role in maintaining normal physiological functions of the central nervous system (CNS). Meningeal lymphatic vessels are involved in the pathophysiological
