Multimodal Knowledge-Infused VLM for Respiratory Disease Prediction and Clinical Report Generation.

Accurate and interpretable computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) for respiratory diseases remains a significant challenge due to the complex multimodal nature of medical data. Existing systems often fall short by focusing on unimodal retrieval analysis or lack sophisticated retrieval strategies, which limit both diagnostic reliability and interpretability. To address this, we propose a novel end-to-end CAD framework that employs a large language model (LLM) with advanced retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques, leveraging multimodal retrieval and structured radiology report generation. [Construction of distinctive exhibitions and narrative innovation in specialized medical museums: an analysis based on the construction practices of three dental museums].

To explore how specialized medical museums can break through homogenization on exhibition and construct Chinese narratives within the modern medical system, this study takes the International Museum of Stomatology, the West China Museum of Stomatology (formerly the Museum of Chinese Stomatology), and the Museum of the History of Chinese Stomatology as research objects to examine their exhibition construction and narrative practices based on field investigations, interviews, and document analysis. The study finds that, relying on disciplinary traditions and accumulated research resources, the t

Expectations about the effectiveness of pain- and itch-relieving medication administered via different routes.

BACKGROUND: Placebo effects on pain have been found to vary in size for different routes of medication administration (e.g. oral vs. injection). This has important implications for both clinical research and practice. To enhance our understanding of these differential placebo effects, research on the underlying expectations about multiple routes and symptoms other than pain is vital. METHODS: A cross-sectional, Internet-based survey was conducted in a representative sample of the Dutch population (n = 508). Respondents rated the expected effectiveness of pain- and itch-relieving medication in

Navigating Together for Equitable Asthma Management for children in families who communicate in languages other than English (Nav-TEAM): A type 2 effectiveness-implementation trial protocol.

Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood in the United States and disproportionately affects children in families who communicate in languages other than English (LOE), who experience worse asthma care, lower use of recommended management practices, and higher hospitalization and emergency department (ED) utilization. Navigating Together for Equitable Asthma Management (Nav-TEAM) was developed to address these asthma disparities through a culturally and linguistically responsive asthma navigation program for LOE families. This article describes the protocol for a hybrid type 2 ef

Subjective disease experience in Sjögren's syndrome. A computerized discrimination analysis.

A study was made of the ability of a computerized discrimination analysis to distinguish between primary or secondary Sjögren's syndrome on the one hand and, on the other, various rheumatic diseases which may be, but in this study were not, complicated by Sjögren's syndrome. The analysis was based on a questionnaire including 76 two- or three-scale items. Among these 76 questions, five with a maximum potential for distinguishing between various subgroups were selected and obviously represent the questions for the physician to ask when taking the patient's history. As shown by classification ma

Adult physical activity behavior: a trend analysis.

One of the health objectives for the nation is to have 60% of adults 18-64 years regularly active in vigorous physical activity by 1990. In this paper an effort is made to determine whether American society is making satisfactory progress toward this goal. Two independent databases are analyzed: time diaries collected from a national sample of American adults in 1981; and the Simmons Market Research Bureau, Inc., survey undertaken in 1984. Participation of adults 25-64 in moderate to vigorous activities that included racquet sports, swimming, hiking, bicycling, skiing, jogging, outdoor gardeni

Computerized analysis of images in the detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.

Improvements in mammographic acquisition techniques have resulted in making the early signs of breast cancer more apparent on mammograms. However, the accuracy of the overall mammographic examination depends on both the quality of the mammographic images and the ability of the radiologist to interpret those images. While mammography is the best screening method for the early detection of breast cancer, radiologists do miss lesions on mammograms. Use of output, however, from a computerized analysis of an image by a radiologist may help him/her in the detection or diagnostic tasks, and potential

Cuff tear arthropathy in the nineteenth century: 'chronic rheumatic arthritis' with 'partial luxation upwards' of the humeral head.

INTRODUCTION: Cuff tear arthropathy of the shoulder is a common indication for insertion of an increasing number of reverse shoulder arthroplasties. It is widely believed that this condition was unknown to medical practitioners and writers prior to the introduction of the term cuff tear arthropathy by Charles Neer in 1977. PURPOSE: To search nineteenth-century written sources for pathoanatomical and biomechanical descriptions of the typical changes found in cuff tear arthropathy. METHODS: A historical review. Approach to the Patient on Antihypertensive Therapy: Screen for Primary Aldosteronism.

Primary aldosteronism (PA) is a condition that is still largely overlooked, resulting in a considerable burden of mortality and morbidity. This is despite decades of clinical and translational research on the deleterious effects of aldosterone on the cardiovascular system and the publication of several guidelines and consensuses on its diagnosis and treatment. One of the main reasons for the low rate of testing is the difficulty of screening patients on antihypertensive therapy that potentially interferes with aldosterone and renin levels and thus confound the interpretation of the aldosterone

Abnormal mammographic findings. A critical appraisal.

We performed a 1 year review of mammographic interpretations and breast biopsy experiences at Madigan Army Medical Center, correlating biopsy results with mammographic interpretations when possible. Fibrocystic mammary dysplasia was reported in two thirds of our patients, with interpretations heavily weighted toward findings of moderate or severe dysplasia. Sixteen percent of our patients had indeterminate or suspicious mammograms, and only 11 percent of the mammograms were read as normal. Of 19 patients who underwent needle-directed biopsy for nonpalpable lesions and suspicious or indetermina
