Huntington's disease (HD) is a hereditary autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disease caused by the polyglutamine stretch expansion in the huntingtin (HTT) protein. In HD, dysregulation of multiple cellular processes occurs, resulting in the death of medium spiny neurons of striatum. A line of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) ICGi033-A was obtained from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of a patient carrying 77 CAG repeats in the HTT gene. The iPSCs express pluripotency markers, have a normal karyotype, and differentiate into three germ layers: endoderm, ectoderm, mesoderm.

We report on two unrelated patients with fetal alcohol syndrome with hypoplasia of the periocular region, resulting in a low and narrow forehead and hypotelorism. Other typical manifestations of the syndrome involving the facial midline are also present. These observations can be added to clinical and experimental evidence from other authors, supporting the concept that the facial anomalies of the fetal alcohol syndrome are the expression of a midline defect originating from the disruption of the ordered development of midline mesoderm cells during early embryogenesis.

Although rare, fibroepithelial polyp of the ureter is the most common type of benign urinary tract mesodermal tumor. It may cause symptoms such as hematuria, dysuria, and flank pain or be asymptomatic. Liposarcomas are malignant tumors derived embryologically from mesodermal tissues. An unusual site of presentation is the spermatic cord, presenting as an inguinal or scrotal mass. We report a rare case of a liposarcoma of the spermatic cord, mimicking a testicular tumor. The patient was operated, and an orchidectomy, including the tumor, was performed. To our knowledge, there are about 185 similar cases reported in the literature.

PURPOSE: Maffucci's syndrome is a nonhereditary congenital disorder associated with multiple enchondromas, soft tissue hemangiomas, or lymphangiomas. It carries an associated high risk of the development of malignant neoplasms, particularly sarcomatous transformation of an enchondroma, as well as other malignant mesodermal and nonmesodermal neoplasms.
